Ikebukuro is a busy place with a big station but not as manic as Shinjuku and cheaper. This hotel is a five minute walk from the station and is close to shops cafes bars etc. Rooms are small but adequate - beds were OK and the shower good It was cleaned everyday and towels changed. The manager was quiet and... More

We stayed at New Hotel Ikebukuro for 2 nights. The first impression of this hotel was so small. The lobby was small, both lifts were small and the room was surprisingly slightly bigger than some other hotel we stayed during our 14 days trip. All basis amenities were provided and even the "kettle" was a small metal cup warmer. We... More

This is a budget hotel which is visible in the quality of rooms. Our room (the walls, bed, furniture) smelled like cigarette smoke which was quite unsettling and uncomfortable. I didn't enjoy the thought of going back to the hotel after a long, busy day walking around Tokyo visiting attractions. However, you get what you pay for.

Hotel somewhat difficult to find, kept getting lost in the Ikebukuro maze each day. Staff very polite and helpful. Hotel itself looking old and tired. Single room was on the large size for Japan (had corner room) with lots of floor space, but usual small bathroom. Pillow very uncomfortable. Breakfast fine considering it was free; combination of coffee, self-serve toast,... More

The people who worked there were very polite (like the rest of Japan) and helpful. The breakfast was boring, with just two opportunities (one asian kind of breakfast, and one "western" breakfast). Not to far from all kinds of restaurants, underground transport and basically everything you need. But it's a great place if you're traveling on budget.

Actually pretty near to ikebukuro station, the hotel seems a little bit dirty for the japanese standard but the staff has been so kind and gentle as usual for japan. small rooms and dirty moquette, but the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom always clean. i just reccomend to pay attention to the ikebukuro zone, which seems to be some... Walls are dirty and stained. A fresh coat of paint would have made a huge difference. I didn't like it and did not look forward to returning to my room at the end of the night. I only stayed in this hotel for 2 nights but it was 2 nights too long. The brown coloured patterned bed cover was off... More

We booked on-line through booking.com. The only advantage of this hotel is that it is close to the station. Rooms are ultra-small, bathrooms a cubicle where we couldn't stay upright and the beds almost the size of a baby cot. A 120 cm wide bed is considered a 'normal' double bed! When pointing out that we are two grown up... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
