We were two people for 5 nights. The rooms are so small. There was just enough room to squeeze one bag at foot of bed.
The rooms are very clean, the bed itself is comfortable. We had to ask the front desk for North American style pillows, as the ones provided in the rooms are more like flat head mats. (They do have big fluffy pillows available but they were hesitant to give them to us, which we found a bit frustrating.). The tub is tiny but the water pressure is good.
There are coin laundry machines in the basement - 500 yen for a wash (it includes soap) and 100 yen for 30 minutes for dryer (we found we needed at least one hour for clothes to dry, just throw in 200 yen at once).
Gyoemmae is sorta at the edge of Shinjuku, so it’s a bit quieter. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and it’s walkable ie 10 minutes to central Shinjuku. This hotel is right next to a metro stop.

The location was close to a small station and easily walkable to the main Shinjuku station. Plenty of food and shopping in short walking distance too.

The onsen was a bonus. The tubs were pretty small but I was there at an offpeak period so there weren't many people.

The room was tiny as the standard by Tokyo standards but I had room enough to move around and have my suitcase open.

I got breakfast with the room and it was adequate but not much of a selection and I would've been better served just buying breakfast outside.

Thank you very much for staying with us at APA Hotel Shinjuku-gyoemmae. Our location is quite convenient to access from the nearest station. The closest one is "Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station" (Exit 1), and it takes 1 minute by walking. It is also 9 minutes on foot from JR Shinjuku Station (South-east Exit). The accesibility is very convenient to get around Tokyo for sightseeing and business and so on. We have confident that we got lots of reputations from our valued guests who have stayed. In addition, As we provide all room functional and compact, each APA Hotel is able to save the energy, and, as our efforts and the guests' cooperations, we have succeeded to reduce the environment burden per guest. It is also the carbon dioxide has been suppressed by one-third. We truly look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Staff very friendly and SPOKE ENGLISH!
Great location, 1 minute walk to a metro station, not very well connected but from that line you can connect easily to other lines. Also walking distance from Shinjuku shops, bar and restaurants area. The room is very small but very clean and nice. Bed very confortable. There is a spa which is free and very good (a nude jacuzzi, separate men and women, a strange experience though).

We did choose APA Shinjuku mainly based on location and price. The hotel is situated close by Shinjuku Gyoenmae station and only a few minutes walk from Shinjuku Station (Tokyos largest station). APA Shinjuku is within walking distance to Shinjuku shoppingarea and restaurants.

The room we stayed in was quite small but functional decorated with all you need for a nice stay. The hotel is very clean and beds are very comfortable. I can highly reccomend the APA Shinjuku for your stay in Tokyo - especially if you would like to stay in walking distance to many sights and close by Shinjuku Station which will make it easy for you to travel all around Tokyo.

To get there, from the Shinjuku Station use the South Exit, turn left and walk for about 10 minutes, then turn left at the start of the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden entrance and then turn right. It takes about 10-15 minutes walk from the Shinjuku station. Hotel is one block over from the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (closed on Mondays).

Overall the hotel is quite new, small lobby and is generally quite clean. Has an Onsen which I did not use (didn't want to frighten the locals).

They only provide water after the first cleaning so the room will be empty whan you arrive. The rooms are very small and clean.

The shower does not allow you to adjust the flow of water so it is set at very strong and will often flood the floor if you done set the screen properly.

Quite good value being in Tokyo and would stay again.

For this trip to Tokyo, I also stayed at APA Hotel Roppongi Eki Higashi and Kokkaigijidomae. I've reviewed the other two as well. I booked the 'Standard Room' or 'Single Room' for all three.
The three rooms were all the same basically. They are clean, tidy and useful but also small. The length of the bed is usually the width of the room. There is a small window by the bed but most of the time you'll need to turn on the lights even in daytime.

What's good:
Great value at this price point considering the amenities and location. Shinjuku Station and Kabukicho are about 15 minutes walk. Many coffee shops, restaurants and combinis around. The Shinjuku Gyoen park (500 yen admission) is right behind the hotel and is a nice, quiet way to spend a day.
Cheerful and hardworking staff (front desk, housekeeping etc.)
Quiet neighborhood at night despite a large road in front.
There's a public bath that has both indoor and open air soaking tubs (so you can pretend you're at an onsen).
Coin operated laundry machines (each one both a washer and a dryer).
The TV home page in your room can show which machines are open so you don't have to make a trip to the laundry room in vain.

What wasn't so good:
Slow elevators.
Though my 5th floor room was supposed to be non-smoking, there was a faint cigarette odor.
Slightly worn looking throughout the hotel. Maybe an older APA hotel.
So all APA Hotels run this English language PSA on a loop when you turn on the TV in which this male voice informs viewers in a smarmy condescending manner what tourists shouldn't do in Japan like cutting in line or talking loudly in public. Also included was a request to guests to not to take back home, properties of the hotel other than the disposable amenities provided. This is annoying, borderline offensive. But perhaps, they've experienced clueless and/or willful guests. When I turned on the Japanese language option, there wasn't any such announcement for Japanese guests. WTF

APA hotels are planned and designed primarily for business people and not so much for tourists. But if you want to stay in the Shinjuku area to enjoy the dining, shopping and entertainment scenes, you have better options with many other APA Hotels closer to the Station and where such venues are located. But this hotel is quieter at night and only 15 minute or so walk to those bustling areas.

We did not like our stay at this APA Hotel at all. Because of an outside temperature of 11 degrees airco was switched off. However rooms are very small/tiny and we were with 2 people taking showers, moving around etc. Consequently the room got hotter and hotter to the point in the morning it was very, very unpleasant. In the morning the sun was shining on the windows and outside temperature was above 14 degrees. One can imagine how hot it got in there. When checking out the frontdesk staff was incredibly lackluster and NOT interested in dealing with the issue or giving a professional response. It was a staff attitude which you rarely experience in Japan. Oe can only assume it might be the result of inadequate personnel management by hotel management.

Great value hotel for single travelers. The hotel is kind of a 15-20 mins walk from JR shinjuku station but I only need to use JR station on the days of arrival and departure. Otherwise the hotel is conveniently located close to Shinjuku gyoenmae and Shinjuku Sanchome station. Another benefit of this hotel is it’s very quiet at night, unlike other inexpensive hotels near kabukicho where you can encounter LOTS of pimps on your way back to the hotel every night. I did take others’ recommendation to book a double bed and the room size is ok enough for me to open up my one 24 in luggage. Overall a nice hotel and the hot tub access is the icing on the cake. Would definitely come back again.

We appreciate you have given us your kind review in detail. We, APA HOTEL, are categorized "New Urban Hotel". As following that, we have emphasized functionality and convenience of rooms, and that is our concept for providing the guestss our service. We highly appreciated your understanding about that, Our location is quite convenient to access from the nearest station. The closest one is "Shinjuku Gyoemmae Station"(Exit 1), and it takes 1 minutes by walking. In addition, It is 9 minutes by waking from JR Shinjuku Station(East-South Exit). The accesiblity is very convenient to get around Tokyo for sightseeing and business and so on. We have very confident that we got lots of reputations from our valued guests who had stayed. The hotel is very far away from JR Shinjuku station, but there's a subway station near the hotel. The room is very small even in Japan standards and we could barely open even one suitcase. The onsen area is relatively big and relaxing. We stayed there a few nights and there was always a crowd lining up to wash/dry their clothes. I stayed up until 2am to dry my clothes multiple times and clothes are still wet. The next morning I was able to try another dryer and finally dried in one run. The breakfast is hybrid buffet style. You enter the restaurant to pick up a plate pre-filled with main dishes (portion is very small), and there is a small buffet selection of bread, salad, drinks, etc. This is my first time staying in the APA chain and I think I'll go back to the other chains that I normally stay in Japan.

Hi! I stayed at this hotel in December. They do not have much space to hold luggage. It is also very busy. Would avoid. However, if they are not busy now - that could be an option. The better options are : 1. There are lockers in train stations. If your luggage can fit, you can store there. 2. There is a luggage forwarding service (airport and hotels have this service). Your luggage will come to Hokkaido and you do not have to carry it. Its around 20-30 usd. :)
