I love this place, it's cozy and very japanese styled. It is also near a train Station, 7-11 and some places to eat. The lady owner is very nice and friendly. I just didn't get the chance to say goodbye before we leave. I will definite come back here.

We had a great time staying at the lovely Tama Ryokan. Eiko-san made us feel very welcome and, despite our late check in hour, very kindly took the time to show us around and explain everything, including an arrival snack! Michael responded to all emails promptly and was very helpful making sure everything was ok before our arrival. Cosy traditional...

Had the pleasure of spending several nights at the Tama this December. First as a couple and then later as a group of seven. It is no frills but is a warm and welcoming place. I would recommend this accommodation to most travelers. It is very central, located just outside the center of Shinjuku. It is worth noting that a...

Great things about Tama Ryokan: Michael responds very promptly to emails and bookings! Eiko-san was awesome! She made sure to walk us through everything in the Ryokan. She also gave my brother a nice Japanese banner as a present on his birthday, also brought us sweets to our room daily. Very clean Affordable The futons were very comfortable A lot...

if you don't mind the no-frills accomodation this is for you. Beds are mattresses that you set up on the floor every night. Bathroom is common with hot shower working very well. Very clean room and bathroom. The place is excellently located just beside the subway station and bus station is just across the street. Lots of nearby restaurants and...

Just a few points of clarification (a point that's buried down in this review): we're very close to one of the Tozai line subway. There's no noise from it, though a VERY sensitive person might sometimes feel very faint rumbling through the floor -- at least, that's what I think I feel sometimes at 4:30 AM, when it's very quiet....

Location-wise it is pretty good, not in the absolute heart of Tokyo but a pleasant neighbourhood. Great value if you want to spend your money on things other than accommodation. There were a few housekeeping rules especially with the tatami room with paper doors but I can understand the need for it. I am already quite a neat person and...

Tama Ryokan is very welcoming and friendly. If you're not shy of a few housekeeping rules its a pleasant stay. The location is probably not as convenient in that it is a couple of stops from Shinjuku and then Shibuya. However my friends and I had a pleasant two night stay in a traditional setting. The owners are helpful and...

I recommend Tama Ryokan for many reasons. First of all, the location is great. It is easy to find from the main street, and is located right next door from Starbucks and convenience stores like Family Mart. It is also close to the Takadanobaba stop that can take you on the Tozai Line, the JR Yamanote Line and the Seibu-Sjinjuku...

I found this place after doing some research on internet and because I don't want to spend a lot money on hotels, so this is the place! It's located in central shinjuku; stores, starbucks, restaurants are within a short walking distance. The ryokan is so close to takadanobaba station (just 1 mile). From this station you can get out at...

This review says we're "just 1 mile" from Takadanobaba station. This is incorrect. Walking briskly, in three minutes you can reach the part of the station where you can catch both the Yamanote line and the Seibu-Shinjuku line. From our door, you can reach the entrance of the Tozai line part of Takadanobaba station in about 5 seconds.

My husband and I loved our stay at this ryokan. It was very clean and our room was quite comfortable and cozy. I was worried that the futon mattresses would be too thin to be comfortable, but that was not the case- they made for a good night's sleep. Our room was the most basic one, but it was more...

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
