I stayed here for a few nights over Christmas and again in the early part in January.
The hotel is located around 3 minute walk to the tube station. Shibuya is 5 minutes away on the tube or 10 minutes on the local bus.

I flew into Haneda Aiport and the hotel was 1 hour away on public transport. It cost around 870 yen from the aiport to Sangen -jaya tube station. ( Haneda Aiport to Shingawa, then change at Shingawa to Shibuya and then take the Tokyu Den-entoshi line from Shibuya to Sangen-jaya,take the North Exit A out of the tube station, be aware there a quite a few stairs at the tube station, if you have large luggage, when you exit the tube barriers in the tube station , just walk straight ahead keep to the right and you will find a lift to take you to street level. When you exit the lift turn, walk straight ahead, walk past Mcdonalds and you will see a large shoe shop on the corner of the street crossing, turn left and this is the road of the hotel, you will walk pass KFC, cross over the road and the hotel is a few minutes walk.)

The local area is fantastic.

There is a large supermarket across the road from the hotel and there are lovely local restaurants/bakery, market, antique shops ,art gallery, clothes shops etc closeby. If you desire western fast food there are KFC and McDonalds a few minutes away.

The hotel room was small but adequate for me as a solo traveller. The only negative about my stay, was on arrival the sheets to my bed had blood stains, I reported the matter to reception and they apologised and the bed was changed, however I did notice the mattress protector was stained also and asked for this to be changed. After that I had no further issues with bedding. Despite this I would stay here again, as it is good value for money, the area and the local restaurants are fantastic and you can access the rest of the City quite easily.

I stayed 11 nights in The B Sangenjaya in July 2014. You are probably looking at The B because you are looking for an inexpensive hotel that's clean and reasonably close to the action. It delivers mostly on that deal. As a frequent traveller to Tokyo, I prize closeness to a station as you get everywhere in this city by train; The B is a very short walk to the train. Normally I prefer to stay in Shibuya or Ginza but I wanted a cheaper option this time.

Sangenjaya is an interesting place to stay: a real-life Tokyo inner suburb with all the conveniences of local restaurants, supermarkets, bars and convenience stores.

The hotel itself: rooms are small (it's Tokyo) but commodious and clean. Good airconditioning -- a must in Tokyo's stifling summer heat & humidity. Some room for improvement: poorly located powerpoints, a strangely mis-fitting and loose washlet toilet seat and a lack of block-out blinds (it gets light here at 4:30am!) were some niggles. But overall it's a comfortable place to stay. Great bed. For a traveller staying for a longer period there are coin-operated washers & dryers on 12F for Y200 a go.

Dear Amaynakiad We would like to thank you very much for staying in our hotel the b sangenjaya and posting your review. As you know we are very near to the station and Sangenjaya itself is the convenient place. It is also easier to go Shibuya, Ginza and Sinjuku, the most interesting places in Tokyo. We are happy to hear about our rooms conditions. We are trying our best to make them better. Though our rooms are small we provide them on highly reasonable price. For your information our coin-operated washers have been changed to JPY300 a go. We heartly welcome your next visit to Japan and it will be our great pleasure to have your stay with us again. Best regards, Shunsuke Kawai Front Desk Manager

Just a couple of blocks from Sangenjaya Station, across the street from a great store with a HUGE selection of prepared foods, with fresh fruits and vegetables (Seiyu, surprisingly a Walmart subsidary). Room are small, but typical of Japanese business hotels, had a laundry facility with both washer and dryer. The bathroom was really tiny, but worked for us (with the really nice Toto toilets that have a the built in bidets). Room had a small refridgerator, free wifi, and a TV that had CNN international BBC (some other hotels didn't have English speaking TV channels). If you advance book, a really great hotel rate (about $75-$85/night US dollars). Staff was efficient and friendly, speak relatively good english. Held luggage for 3 days as we went on an out of Toyko excursion.

A fun and very pleasant stay. I’m very grateful to all the staff, who were patient, attentive and incredibly helpful in giving directions to all the sights I wanted to visit. I’m someone who rarely travels on my own (being an early 60 year old woman and not great with google maps!) and I was nervous and panicked a lot but the staff put me at ease, and I became more confident towards the end of my week’s stay. I enjoyed my daily breakfast at the hotel. The room is clean. The Sengenjaya area is very convenient and great to explore.

I definitely recommend The b Sengenjaya Hotel to family and friends.

A big thank you again to The b hotel!

The B Sagenjaya is one of the boutique hotels of [--] I stayed there for two nights in a twin room, two twin beds. The hotel is located out of Tokyo two stops on the Den-en Toshi Line that connects to the JR Yamonote line and M and G metro lines. It is just outside the city boundaries. It is very close to Shibuya, two stops away from shopping and teen hang outspots. The hotel is located in a rather bustling neighborhood, more local shops and restaurants. It is fun to explore around the hotel. The B sagenjaya is a little dated in its rooms with a few modern finishes, meaning new lights on the bedstand and new beddings. You get the terry robe and slippers like the other B hotels. But thhe only main problems with the B sagenjaya is their rooms are laid out rather akward. I stayed at the B aksaka which is newer and better than this B hotel. The bathroom in our room seemed like an airplane bathroom with a four foot soaking tub, rather old and akwardly elevated. You literally have to step up and over, to get in the bathroom. This was quite a challenge for myself and my mother. I kept hitting my knee, since it is so small and compact. I believe this to be a problem for safety and access. It would not be handicap accessible. The room furnishings were dated, the pictures of the website did not clearly match this hotel. On the website the rooms looked modern, but clearly in person, they are not. Anyways this hotel is average, it was $10 more per night than the brandnew B Akasaka. Which was not worth the additional $ rate to pay for the Sagenjaya, since the B Akasaka was clearly a better choice. The staff was friendly and accomodating. They will help you navigate the city and print out directions for you. There is a nice Japanese Restaurant outside the hotel next door that we went to. There is a Korean restaurant inside the hotel that also offers a $10 buffet breakfast. I did not try it though. Overall, this hotel lacks some of the "B" basics in comfort and luxury, it is a B hotel in Basic accomodations. It is conveniently located than the B akasaka hotel. The train is less than a block from this hotel and it is two stops from Shibuya and 4 stops from Harajuku, so I like the location. If you are looking for a basic hotel with a great location friendly staff, and are not too picky about rooms and furnishings then this hotel will suit your needs.

I chose this hotel with air and hotel package deal. I was so happy that I chose this hotel.

Pro:
1. Location: Super close to the Metro Sangenjyaya Station (Tokyu Den En Toshi Line)
2. Location: It is on the street where a lot of business, such as many restaurants, a convenience store, a drug store, etc that are open late so when you come back late, the street is very well lit and many people are walking, taxis running. I did not feel unsafe walking around 10:00 pm.
3. Location: Convenience store on the first floor.
4. Location: Close to Shibuya
5. Room - heated toilet seat (this was so nice!), carefully but well thought amenities - an electric kettle and herb tea bags, cups, fridge, shoe brush, TV (you need to purchase a prepaid card to operate), Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Hand wash soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair brushes, razors, a hair dryer, (I was in a twin room), bath towels and hand towels, wash cloth/sponge, one time use slippers, robes, hangers.
6. Super clean and comfortable beds.
7. Light blocking roll down curtain.
8. Check out is 11:00 am - this was really nice.
9. Very thoughtful check in staff - I was early to check in so I was working at the lobby and they got a room for me. Was able to rest before I went out again. Also for ladies, they gave us some special packets of relaxation heat pads and others.
10. Free Wifi with password in the very back page of information folder in a drawer of the room.

Con:
1. Internet could get slow when there are many users in the hotel. Each floor has designated portal to choose from, and when it does not work, simply call the front desk to reset. It worked good for me.
2. I was in a smallest room. There is no space for a big luggage to open.
3. There were only 2 plug in that I found in a room.

For more information:
Check the web site of the hotel.
Check in - 3 pm
Check out - 11 am
You can earn their points, and receive some kind of gifts. - I did not join since I do not live in Japan. There are other "the b" hotels in Japan.

Direction: From Sangenjyaya station, take exit 1a and go right onto Chazawa Dori. it is a couple of minutes and on your right above a convenience store,

It is a small boutique type hotel and I slept well, I worked well in the room. I would go back and stay there again.

Dear kickboxmama, Thank you for staying with us at the b sangenjaya and sharing your feedback. I am delighted to read your generous comment of your stay, especially “I was so happy that I chose this hotel”, and “I would go back and stay there again” is truly appreciated. I equally appreciate you detailed location and our service. Sangenjaya area is not much well-known yet among visitors from overseas but it is very popular among locals. This area offers many local dinning dotted even in back allays, then I believe this neighborhood is similarly enjoyable for visitors from overseas. There is a convenience store in downstairs of building and a glossary store in front of our hotel, then it is also convenient for shopping. One of famous area in Tokyo, Shibuya is easily accessible by train with 5 minutes. In addition to basic amenities we offered, we also have some items to lend at front desk including mobile charger and multi plug outlet. Regular TV channels are available at no charge. Purchase of a prepaid card is required for VOD. I am sorry for the inconvenience of Wi-Fi speed. Although we offer some access points, they go slow when users increase. As you mentioned, please feel free to reach front desk if you found the speed inconvenient and we will gladly fix it as early as possible. Size of rooms is from 10 to 24 square meters and I understand they are compact especially for overseas standard. If you directly contact us at your reservation, we will gladly offer the best one for your stay subject to availability. We all strive to make any hotel stay comfortable and enjoyable with other service aspects, trying to be able to even compensate the down side of room size. As a part, we offer complimentary one time use skincare set for ladies guests, and heat pads during Christmas and around new year. I will be more than happy if you feel warm even a little when you go out under wintry cold weather. I appreciate your those candid comments including the number of outlet as we can learn where to work on for future improvements. Once again, I very appreciate you stayed with us on this occasion and took the time to provide this valuable feedback. We continually strive to be pleasant hotel that guests feel so happy like you, and thus we all look forward to seeing and welcoming you again in the future. With much appreciation, J. The room was tiny however this was expected in Tokyo. A lovely quiet hotel in a super location. Just two stops from Shibuya and also cheap and accessible by taxi from Shibuya too. Authentic Japanese location with ample local shops, bars and restaurants without the massive tourist footfall. The hotel staff couldn’t do enough for us. They drew maps, recommended places to visit, helped us arrange courier services for sending gifts to friends and even forwarded our luggage to our next hotel in Kyoto so we didn’t have to bring it on the public transport system. Room was spotless and cleaned daily. Ample toiletries provided. Can’t recommend this hotel and location enough.

This was the 3rd hotel we stayed at our our trip to Japan, the second 'b' hotel and it was on a par with Kobe.
The room was no smaller than we expected, for a Tokyo hotel and we found it quite comfortable.

The breakfast was fine, there was a fairly Western option in scrambled eggs, small Frankfurter type sausages and fries/wedges/potato which did the job. Always cooked, always tasty. I believe there were other options which were a bit more Japanese but I'm not a bit eater in the mornings so I was fine with the eggs.

The location is perfect - few minutes walk down the road from Sangenjaya Subway stop from where you can easily get to Shibuya within a few minutes.

As per my Kobe review, the only problem I had was the bed, but that is my issue and no real fault of the hotel. They are Japanese style beds (obviously), which are very firm which didn't mix well with the sore back I had at the time! Again, this was not the hotel's fault.
The bathroom was small but functional. It was a sort of cabin style, all in one bathroom with a soaking bath and shower, all run off of the basin tap, different but it works! The shower was good, decent pressure and water a constant temperature. The bath takes a while to fill, and if you wish to have a little soak, there's even a Lush store a few minutes walk away down the side of Seiyu dept store.

Once again, the staff in the 'b' hotel were really helpful, always smiliing and would always say hello as you walked past.

Would definitely consider staying here for another trip to Tokyo!

Dear Mark B Thank you very much for spending your time with the b sangenjaya. As you have already mentioned we are located just a few minute walk from the Sangenjaya station. The subway Sangenjaya station has good access to almost all the biggest part of Tokyo. Basically it is a residential area therefore you can purchase the foodstuffs in low price, and the restaurants, bars, even supermarkets are comparatively cheaper. About our breakfast-as you already know we serve both Japanese and western option. It is buffet style and the guest can enjoy both. The ‘b’ of our hotel group symbolizes the breakfast as well. Good and healthy breakfast. We are sorry for the bed problem. Actually we have recently changed all the bed-mattress. They are very new. Though our rooms are smaller we will try our best to make them more comfortable. Anyway our sangenjaya the b team would like to see you again. Best regards, Shunsuke Kawai Front Desk Manager

Had the pleasure of staying at the b sangenjaya for 7 days. This is a great hotel situated 2 stops from the lights of Shibuya and located close to all shopping, coffee spots and the Carrot Building. The rooms are small but this did not seem to bother us as they were clean, comfortable and haven after a days sight seeing. The beds are especially comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming and nothing is a bother. We didn't have the breakfast at the hotel because there were some excellent spots situated near the hotel. We were also impressed with the laundry services situated on the property and the efficiency of the housekeeping team.

We would like to thank the hotel for 7 excellent and comfortable days and strongly recommend the property to everyone. We will return!

It is our great pleasure if we learn guests enjoy and satisfy their stay, and we are most happy if guests have feelings that they want to come back like you! And we are located within 2 minutes walking distance to nearest station, so it is convenient to access transportation and get around Tokyo. As we were planning our trip to Tokyo, we wanted to explore different parts of the city and Sangenjaya proofed to be a very good place to start off with. The area is very youthful but not in terms of crazy Akihabara or Shibuya. There are lots of little bars and shops and Ramen restaurants. Houses are relatively low rise and the whole atmosphere just seemed relaxed. Also it is very close to Shibuya, Shinjuku and Harajuku. The Hotel staff was very friendly, everybody spoke English. It was nice to come "home" to this area after a packed day in the city. Clean rooms, of course small, but remember: it is Tokyo after all. Great price value. The Narita Express Airport train takes you right to Shibuya and its only two more stops on the Toshi-Line to Sangenjaya, very convenient.

Dear MaiMBD Thank you for spending your time with us. As you have already mentioned we are in absolutely convenient area in the aspect of transportation access. Sangenjaya lies in Setagaya Ward and it is said to be the most expensive ward in Tokyo, however we provide our service in the best price rate. Sangenjaya is basically a residential area that's why we don't have too many skyscrapers and you can find lots of traditional Japanese restaurants, Ramen shops, Sushi bars etc. So far as our hotel staffs are concerned some of them have the experience of studying abroad. Everybody speaks good English. At last we would like to thank you again for choosing our hotel. Hope you enjoyed Tokyo. Best regards, Shunsuke Kawai Front Desk Manager

Answer from hotel_the_b

Dear kido, Thank you for your inquiry about the b sangenjaya. We would like to suggest 3 options for route from Narita airport. Please take "JR Narita Express" or "Keisei Access Express". ・JR Narita Express: Please transfer at "Shibuya" station to Tokyu Denentoshi line, and get off at "Sangenjaya" station. ・Keisei Access Express: Please transfer at "Oshiage" station to Tokyo Metro Hanzomon line, and get off at "Sangenjaya" station. The 3rd option is Limousine bus from Narita airport. ・Limousine bus : Please get off at "Shibuya Excel Tokyu Hotel" and transfer to Tokyu Denentoshi line at Shibuya station. It takes approximately 5 minutes from Shibuya station to Sangenjaya station by the line. *The option of Keisei Access Express is more affordable and takes a little less time compared to JR Narita Express. *The options of Narita Express or Limousine bus are easier and more comfortable in regards with securing reserved seats for longer time than Keisei option. Please follow "North Exit A" of the sangenjaya station and walk rightward. Soon we will be found along the street after 2 minutes' walk. For more information, please visit our website of "Area & Access" or directly contact us. Thank you the b sangenjaya
