What a nice hotel. The lobby is spacious and clean. All the hotel employees are courteous and helpful. I never had to wait too long for an elevator (my pet peeve). You can see the Tokyo Tower from the elevator waiting area on the 9th floor. My hotel room overlooked the beautiful tea garden that connects this hotel with others....

First of all, the room was big - Western size, clean and comfy. The view of downtown Tokyo we had from the 14th floor was amazing, esp at night. The hotel is 10 min on foot (or on the free shuttle) from the Shinagawa station, which has (1) a direct link (20 min) from the Haneda airport, (2) South-bound Shinkansen,...

Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa has a perfect location, near Shinagawa JR Station. The only problem is walking in August the climbing path from the station to the hotel, but being organised the hotel offers a shuttle transfer. I stayed there in a triple room for 2 nights. The room was quite big, clean and confortable. Not luxury but perfect as...

We were approaching our last night in Japan when our plans to stay with a friend fell through for the last night of our visit. From our Ryokan in Kyoto we searched Expedia for a hotel to stay in near Shinagawa station. We wanted something cheap, but nice. We found some cheap options farther out, some icky cheap options, and...

This is the older of the 2 hotels, it is in a nice setting and only a few minutes stroll you can get to Shinagawa train station, by far the best way to get around. Anyway the hotel is OK, rooms are clean and fairly spacious, my wife likes the heated toilet seat! Food in the hotel along with drinks...

We stayed at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa together in mid-May for 4 nights (my husband stayed an additional 4 nights). Our room was very modern and comfortable. The amenities included hot water dispenser (kept full by housekeeping), tea, and minibar. There was no coffee provided, so we bought a jar of instant at the convenience store. The mini-fridge allowed...

My wife & I recently stayed for 4 nights on arriving at Tokyo & 1 night on departing. On arrival, our pre-booked, pre-paid deluxe garden room had been allocated & no more were available. Accordingly, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite on the 14th floor with views of the Tokyo Tower and city area. Unfortunately, the room had an...

the hotel has a good location - it is a 5 min walk from shinigawa station and a very helpful guest relations desk. the room was clean, but the ac took a while to work. there is a very nice garden and pool in the back. you can walk through the garden to get to the New Takanawa Prince Hotel....

This was our first hotel on a trip to Japan and it set a very high standard. We stayed in one of the traditional Japanese rooms with futons on tatami floors and it was beautifully appointed. This is a good way to accommodate a family of four. Probably the best service I ever had at any hotel, anywhere. After a...

Price and location were our key considerations when booking a hotel in Tokyo. Grand Prince Takanawa (not to be confused with Grand Prince NEW Takanawa next door) definitely fit the bill. It is the second stop if you are coming in from the Narita airport shuttle bus (about a 90 minute ride). Our room was upgraded at no cost from...

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
