We had a family afternoon tea in the Orangery, the whole experience was excellent. Very friendly staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were perfect and just the right amount and complimented with a lovely glass of Prosecco. Would highly recommend and will definitely bring more family to afternoon tea.

We were married in the hotel in 2011 and had an amazing day, the staff were wonderful and the planning service provided by Gaynor was excellent so we were excited to visit again this year. We had a really lovely stay. The room was beautiful and we enjoyed reminiscing about our special day. We couldn't have been made to feel...

Attended a family wedding at Balbirnie House Hotel yesterday and have to say I was really impressed. A lovely building in picturesque gardens. We were fortunate to get a little bit of sunshine which meant we could relax and explore the grounds whilst the bride and groom were having their pictures taken. The canapies that they served were lovely and...

I came here with my stepdad to use a voucher he'd been given as a present. We started with appetisers in the lounge then 4 courses through in the Orangery, all of which were very nice. My only criticism would be that my goats cheese starter didn't have much of the tang you would normally associate with that type of...

This was the first time I had been at the Bistro in the Balbirnie House Hotel, while I have to say that the hotel & grounds look excellent, and the lunch myself & 2 companions had was very good, portions adequate, and the staff very pleasant, I am disappointed at the lack of facilities for a disabled person to access...

Hello myallmar, Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments. We do have a designated parking area, in front of the hedge to the immediate left of our main entrance. We also have a lift which can take you to the floor on which the Bistro is located! - albeit there are still 5 steps to take. In...

In order to give my full experience of having our wedding at Balbirnie, I must go right back to our very first visit..... Balbirnie was the first on our list of venues to view for our wedding. Turning up to the warm and welcoming venue put us both at ease instantly. We were all offered tea and coffee and shown...

My husband and I cannot fault our recent stay at Balbirnie House following our beautiful, special and perfect wedding day. Our reception went without a hitch and we cannot thank Christine (wedding planner) or Kerrie (MC on the day), for making our wedding day run so smoothly and ensuring my husband and I enjoyed every second. The food and drink...

Having ate at Balbirnie House many times over the past 20 yrs we decided to book The Orangery for a family dinner to celebrate a special birthday. I'm sad to say however the place seems to have gone downhill. Both the hotel and restaurant were very busy which we understand to be the result of a masquerade ball, promoted via...

Hello SHIRLandTROTT, Sorry to hear that you felt that the other main occasion which was taking place, was deemed to have crossed over with your dining visit. Ballroom guests attending were only in our Long Gallery for arrival drinks and canapés, and we were certainly completely staffed for dinner service in the same ratios to which we've always been accustomed....

I love visiting Balbirnie House. The hotel is superbly run by owners Nicholas and Gaynor Russell and their dedicated team. Gaynor also takes on interior design, her style and eye for detail are incredible. There are 2 restaurants and I have eaten in both as well as the exciting Chef's Table. They've taken out the glass window so the table...

I personally feel your comments made to a local lady celebrating her 35th wedding anniversary were horrible!

I fully support dawn t on this and feel your response is condescending in the truest sense of the word, you appear to show an attitude of patronizing superiority when you state, " Balbirnie's Snr Manager in charge of Guest Services, has already gone a country mile to do everything possible to exceed what any logically thinking guest would consider as truly wonderful service"

How dare you? this part of your statement, "logically thinking guest" is an insult to dawn t and your lifeline in your chosen career, hospitality - GUEST SATISFACTION! What gives you the right to be this demeaning and make such an arrogant statement ?

When you book the Orangery at 8-00pm you expect the Orangery at 8-00pm and not pathetic excuses on one's special night saying you were busy. As dawn t specifically points out, you weren't busy/fully booked when she arranged their anniversary event.

Is it the fact dawn t is simply a local lass spending what could be classed as an inconsiderable amount of money in your establishment in comparison to the larger parties, that she is relegated to second/third class service whilst the larger groups receive a better class of service, I hesitate to use the words first class as it doesn't apply unless every guest is satisfied and, as this event experienced by dawn t shows, that was not the case.

This response is purely my personal opinion at the way you have handled, or mishandled this complaint. I hope you do host dawn t again, should she choose to visit, and get it right next time.

Lastly, ponder this, most people get married once. But after that they celebrate that event annually, perhaps you need to consider this as a more important, and consistent, alternative revenue stream than you currently seem to.
