My fiancé and I stayed here overnight for a small trip to the New Forest, the room was fairly small but still comfortable, the bed sheets were lovely and soft and the room warm. It was nice to have tea and coffee in the room as well as the little mini muffin type treat. The wifi didn't work at all...

As frequent customers of AJs over the past few years we asked Brian if he would take a group of about forty of us for a post-funeral lunch this week. We were delighted that he agreed and so we arranged to meet with the chef to discuss our requirements. As the family funeral was to be late morning, we decided...

Enjoyed our night at the Augustus John. Handy car park right next to the rooms. Rooms were perfectly adequate. Very clean, warm and cosy. We had chosen this place as it was dog friendly, there were no lingering dog smells either! Rooms were small but had everything we needed. A nice touch was the cafetiere, coffee, tea and the best...

Stayed here last year, unfortunately the photos above are very misleading, it is in the middle of a housing/industrial estate, and you would have no idea you were in the New Forest, which is very disappointing. The bedrooms are very old and dated, and the whole place seems a bit cheap and rough, I would never go back. However the...

Rooms very basic also cold. Bathroom too cold in there to use the shower. Could really do with updating. Very dark entrance with a sign that says " mind the step" but you can't read that in the dark. You have to walk outside to get to the pub so no choice but to go out in the dark.no wi...

Small rooms in a converted stable block. The beds were small but comfortable, but the plumbing was rather primitive. Dog friendly. Convenient car park right outside. It may be a bit noisy on busy evenings as there are picnic tables right outside the window. We'd go back.

Nice place to stay with very friendly staff and locals. Good value, clean rooms and lovely breakfast. Dog friendly. Lots of events - pub quiz on Thurs eve is a real hit with the locals so it gets busy!

We had our second visit last month. A three night, long weekend break. We arrived early evening on the Friday surprised to see 2 fire engines in the car park, and wondered if our plans were scuppered right there. As it turned out there was no fire, someone had tried to park their car inside the pub ! As our...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated between between Sandleheath and Fordingbridge - a riverside town on the edge of The New Forest. You can walk to the town from the pub in about 10 minutes. The old railway line is at the end of the road and leads to many more walks, bluebell woods and open countryside. Salisbury is about 12 miles away to the north whilst Bournemouth and The Jurassic Coast are an easy drive away.Slightly quirky interior with an eclectic mix of stuff on the walls, a fireplace and a screen showing old black and white movies. The food is amazing. Our chef, Scott Bennett, was a head chef at Carey's Manor in Brockenhurst and has devised the most wonderful menu using seasonal produce from The New Forest and surrounds. It is a constantly changing feast so contact us or see our web site to see what we are serving. ... more   less
