Booked this hotel for a two night stay, for a quiet getaway expecting a nice comfortable and classy hotel. Unfortunately what we found did not meet our expectations or reflect the pictures on the website.

The property is currently being renovated and the bar is not in use. Due to COVID measures the restaurant has been cleared out, tables spread out and divided with clear plastic sheeting, chairs have been replaced with clear plastic chairs. Whilst the measures are necessary they make for a very unwelcoming dining experience. The food on offer was reasonably priced, tasty and served hot, staff were friendly and efficient.

We were allocated room 118 on arrival, it was a spacious room with a large zip& link bed. A freestanding fan was provided, and after one night we understood why, the room got very warm partly due to the fact the bathroom extractor fan did not work, the window sash cord was broken and the windows seized shut due to layers of paint. During the night the room became uncomfortably hot even with the fan on full and the condensation ran down the windows.

We reported the problem the next morning and the receptionist moved us immediately, she didn’t appear surprised about our complaint. The second room was much better, no cooling fan but an opening window So we had a much better night’s sleep. WiFi is apparently available in the public areas, however during COVID measures such areas are not really in use, it is a pity that WiFi coverage Is not extended to all bedrooms.

During our stay the hotel was very quiet, there appeared to be only a handful of guests, the car park was deserted. The hotel is located a short walk from the town and close to the local attractions, and provides a nice base to explore the area.

Whilst the hotel appears to have been quite grand at one time, it is showing its age and needs bringing up to date, maybe the current renovations will address that. Until the renovations are completed we would not consider staying at the hotel again.

I arrived very late at night (1am) and there was a friendly chap on reception who sat and chilled with me for a while which was appreciated. Getting to the room was a bit of a pain because it’s all stairs, but once I was in it was really well turned out (see pic).
Pros:
Comfy bed and pillows (and I’m picky).
Nicely decorated.
Spacious.
Blackout curtains.
Powerful shower.
Friendly staff.
Good selection of tea and coffee in room.
Very clean.
Contemporary decor throughout.
Breakfast was a buffet, and although not the best, it was ok. Food was a little dried out and no fresh eggs.

Cons:
No USB chargers in the rooms.
Laminated signs in room explaining about shower operation.
The gardens could do with some landscaping.
Towels on the bed rather than in the bathroom.
The windows were a bit manly and could do with an overhaul.

But I’d stay there again.
Plug hole was very slow draining.

I visited the Golf for an extended business trip in the local area, and sad to say that it was not a great trip by any stretch of the imagination. The room had multiple broken fixtures and fittings of which only one was fixed during my stay, and I could not escape the tired damp and mold smell emanating from one corner of the room and the bathroom where it appears a wall has been built over a window no doubt causing much of this problem. The WiFi was intermittent and there was no iron in the room (a shared ironing room is available but the iron is less than useful). On a positive note the bed was comfy and the staff very helpful and approachable. The public areas downstairs are also nicely decorated obviously recently refurbished - just need to do the rest of the hotel!

Breakfast was hit or miss, sometimes I was given a menu other times I wasnt. The scrambled eggs were sometimes amazing and others seriously undergone, and the bacon mostly anaemic at best. My colleagues stayed at a different hotel in Woodhall Spa which by all accounts the breakfast and overall stay was much better.

The one evening I spent eating in the hotel I found the food to be excellent.

Our first time staying in this hotel. The interior in the bar, restaurant and reception was modern unlike the exterior, on first appearances it seemed well presented.
Very friendly and welcoming at reception, very helpfully putting my room, next to my elderly Father.
I also asked them if they would mind celebrating his birthday at breakfast the following, which they did and we appreciated it very much.
Unfortunately the rooms were tired and lacking facilities.
Steps up to the bathroom, light switches only working from one side of the bed, to operate the main light. The bath room was a bit dirty and the handwash bottles needed topping up.
I had a shower before going out for the evening, the bath started filling up with water, with black bits in it!
When I went to collect my Dad, his bath was full of yellow water!
We went down to reception to inform them, expecting a change of room, especially for him! This didn't happen and we had to go, because we had Cinema tickets booked!
When we got back, we were informed that the blockage had be sorted out, my Dad asked if everything had been cleaned.
When we went back to our room there was rather an unpleasant smell on the landing.
On a positive note, our cooked breakfast was lovely with perfectly poached eggs!

Stayed for 2 nights to attend a local wedding.
Only 3 plug sockets in room, only 2 worked, no USB ports.
No hot water in sink.
Window frames caked in paint which was also on windows.
Nets at window had holes in them.
Chair in room had ripped leatherette.
Wrote my name in the dust in the bottom of the wardrobe.
Only 1 packet of 3 biscuits in room.
No cups, only cardboard takeaway cups with lids , when we asked for proper cups we were told the manager doesn’t like people having them in case they spill stuff on the new carpets yet for an additional charge they’ll bring you your breakfast in your room 🤷‍♀️
Buffet breakfast was only continental, cooked breakfast was brought to you and only included 1 sausage and 1 egg, 2 bacon, like warm beans, 1 hash brown and a couple of mushrooms.
The no lighting in the restaurant had half the bulbs out, everywhere, inside and out had peeling flaking paint.
The receptionist dropped some plates and scraped the clear plastic chairs on the wood effect floor and then got the cleaner to hoover whilst we were trying to eat, We were the only people in there and they could have waited until we’d finished.
For £120 per night I expected much more.

Disappointing to say the least. Room with bath specifically requested when making phone direct booking; first room (138) had just shower. Second room (104) although having a bath, it only filled to low level before water lost as plug hole not tightened up under the bath; not able to have a bath basically. Bathroom original windows had no glass which we discovered after opening the sliding frosted panels added to try to get rid of the musty smell in the bed/bathroom; in fact the hotel generally had this bad smell. Needless to say we didn’t bother with the breakfast (ate and paid for in the village instead) as could imagine what that might be like! It’s a shame that payment had been demanded on arrival instead of check out as is usual in other establishments - can probably see why now!! Will not be returning after this awful experience.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff set in the lovely town of Woodhall Spa that has a lot of history with the Dam Busters
The rooms are big and spotlessly clean.
The evening meal was excellent and the same at breakfast

The area is excellent for cycling as there are cycling tracks along the river that are well maintained and clear of any debris,
It's possible to cycle all the way to Lincoln if you want to

Daughters wedding

Still waiting for manager to contact me after making a complaint.
My room door was left open all day by staff
Bathroom was dirty around the bath
shower door falling off
Light fitting loose from wall
No toilet roll on arrival
Dirty plates left
No replacement cups- even though room was changed from twin to double
Receptionist was patronising when I raised concerns and assured me the manager would ring me- still no contact.

My daughter was so upset she didn’t stay on her wedding night- choosing to go home instead. Would NOT recommend or use again.

A once grand hotel in need of severe upgrading. The carpet was wrinkles and stained all over the building. Wi-Fi was non existent outside the lobby area and the food wasn’t great. Staff did their best to help but you could tell, they were very short staffed. Given that this is peak tourist season in Woodhall Spa and the hotel wasn’t anywhere near full tells its own story. A bit of TLC would see this hotel attract a lot more visitors.

Had a lovely stay at this hotel & shocked by the negative reviews.
From arrival, I was greeted by the lovely lady behind the reception, she accommodated all our requests- nothing was too much trouble. We have stayed numerous times at Woodhall Spa in various hotels, and this is definitely my favourite stay. What I love about this hotel is the calm and relaxed ambience, and the location. The rooms are immaculately clean and the bed provided a very comfortable good-nights sleep. Breakfast was varied and my request of vegetarian food was no issue, the food was delicious and set us up for the day.
I highly recommend this hotel, and believe the reviews do not reflect the great stay it is. Definitely will be back, thank you for your hospitality! 😊
