This was our first visit to the Dower House Hotel and we were genuinely impressed. Our suite was very spacious with a generous seating and television area, a huge and very comfortable superking bed and a well fitted bathroom featuring a bath and powerful walk in shower. Harry's Bar was much cosier and more welcoming than the web site photographs would suggest as was the dining room where we enjoyed well cooked and well presented dishes.
Lastly, all the staff provided excellent service, particularly in the above two areas and made us feel very welcome throughout. We will definitely return.

My fiancé and I stayed at Dower House Hotel a lot of times now. Our recent visit was Valentine's Day 2022 for our engagement present. While we were there we had their afternoon tea. It was gorgeous. We got 2-afternoon teas each and it was only £37, we thought it was good value.

We didn’t book the evening meals because we found the menu was the same and it was a bit posh. We ate there before.

All the staff and the bosses knew our names and they are really lovely and very helpful.

The breakfasts were very good. You can get an English breakfast or continental or everything you want.

We stay in a disabled room with wet room. The room is fully accessible for wheelchairs, but 2 things I would ask the boss to put in the room is to move the mirror above the sink and put some hand wash in the bathroom.

We love the place and all the staff and we are going to have our wedding there in 2024 because the Hotel is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Had a two night midweek stay here. Lovely quiet hotel close to Woodhall Spa village, just a few minutes walk away. The hotel is clean and spacious and our room was in the main house. The bed was comfortable with mattress protector and the pillows had protectors too. The staff work extremely hard are professional and
most are friendly and welcoming. A great team! Plenty car parking space available. The breakfast was really good, hot and served quickly. The only thing I would say is that we had dinner here on Wednesday night and the potatoes were extremely salty, so much so that I had to leave most of them. Food again was piping hot and served on warm plates. A gem of a hotel which we are both really pleased we chose - we will be back again soon.

If you stay at the Dower House Hotel, try very hard to avoid The Lodge, an afterthought annexe to the main hotel. Our room in the Lodge attic was hot and very stuffy on a cool July day. One of the four windows opened about an inch, but was on a tether to prevent it opening further. Another window was sealed shut. The two windows above the bed were on a similar short tether, but could only be reached by standing on the bed.

The room was large, but very tired, with lumpy pillows, a too-small duvet, and gouges and scratches in the paint work on the window sills and around the windows. The lower portion of every wall had dirty marks. There were two small, stained chairs to sit on. The lift door closed on our suitcase, and only brute force made it let go. I’d hate to think of that happening to someone’s child! The manager had a no-can-do attitude, and was unable to do anything to solve our problem.

This place has very beautiful surroundings and lovely building .
Unfortunately our stay was terrible.
We thought we had visited a very good hotel with stylish and professional staff don't get me wrong most staff was brilliant but unfortunately the management do not have the customers comfort and stay at mind .
I did turn up 20 minutes early for check in as we were attending a family wedding amd was told our room would not be ready for a few hours .
We left out cases in the car attended the reception of the wedding and came back well over three hours later amd was told my the manager our room is ready all cleaned -ready for our checking and we thought brilliant we have 35 mins to get freshened uo changed and get back for the second party of the amazing wedding .
Yet again unfortunately the room was disgusting as some had just got out of the bed - dirty glass's and dishes all over the place and the worst of all the bathroom had towels on the floor and the toilet had toilet tissue on the sides of the toilet .
I went straight to speak to management which he said he was sorry and very embarrassed and a refund would be sorted in the morning .
We were given a room in a out building as a wedding was taking place in the main building so we wouldn't have all the noise .
At 2.30 am we eventually got to sleep with the guests in amd out banging the doors kids screaming in amd out the hallway.
I went to the office to check out as the manager the night before asked me to do to sort the refund and left the young duty manager a note to just give £50.50p refund for what I did actually pay for this room which we were put in to be away from all the noise don't get me wrong it's a day and night to celebrate so why did they put so many guests in this building why not in the main building.
After all the hotels I've stayed I really thought this place looks beautiful and a quality hotel I just hope our stay was a one off .

Overall a very nice experience and we could recommend this small hotel for an overnight stop in the area or a romantic get-away.
Good things:
Price more than reasonable on booking.com for B&B.
Check in good at 3pm and a generous 11am check out gave time to relax.
Staff friendly and welcoming, service very good.
Room huge and nicely furnished with small table and chairs in window and a luxurious bathroom, little touches included toiletries, hairdryer, mineral water, butlers tray, trouser press and iron in the room.
Bed huge and extremely comfortable.
Room had a nice view of the golf course, if it hadn't it still would have been nice to overlook the lovely garden.
Room extremely quiet at night, could have heard a pin drop even though we knew other guests were next to us all around.
Whole hotel beautiful in its decor, bar area and breakfast room tasteful and elegant.
Breakfast very good with attention to a gluten free diet if required.
5 minute walk to the cinema, village centre with dining out options and shops, and beautiful walks on the doorstep.
Things which could improve:
On arrival it is unclear where to walk into, a small sign making it clear "reception this way" would be good.
Reception is a tired old ikea desk littered with papers and you stand at an office door to check in, no big desk, it looks really tatty and untidy, but the ladies working there were lovely and professional.
Room furniture is tired and could do with an update, mug rings as no coasters were disappointing.
Behind the sink taps was a thick layer of brown gunge and a grey tidemark in the toilet, I cleaned it off with one good wipe from the sink, inside plug ditto (sorry my devotion stopped at cleaning the toilet ring, but it just needs a good scrub with some beach!!) so small attention to detail is missing, but bath and shower were good, shower very powerful.
Wooden floor in hall in desperate need of a polish, but I think they're working they're way through as new carpets going down.
Old Christmas lights now hanging down over the back door need to come down. So we thought that small attention to detail would elevate this hotel from very nice to magnificent.

I have been to The Dower House on numerous occasions and always recommend it to friends as a special place to visit, but it saddens me to write that my experience fell far below what i expected.
We started our visit with afternoon tea, however the room we were placed in was too cold to remove our coats, i asked to be moved and was shown to a light, warm and pleasant, yet empty dining room, why not seat us there in the first place?
The food itself was OK, but i was surprised that my pre-booked gluten free afternoon tea should include a Cadburys Crunchie bar with its ends cut off! With 4+ days notice, i'm surprised the chef couldn't do better.
Upon booking in to pick up our room key, the staff didn't seem to know which room we were in and asked about our booking. This booking was a gift/surprise, so i was unaware of which room was requested.
Eventually the room 6, a suite was decided upon and just before 3 pm we went up to room 6 seeing the housekeeping debris along the corridor.
The suite was not cleaned to a particularly high standard, with the previous occupants nail varnish streaks in the bath tub, dust and grime on the tiles and floor, dirty sink and limescale ring around the toilet. Room 6 also had poor WiFi connection. When filling the kettle the water needed to be run for a while to avoid bad taste and even the complimentary biscuits were missing from the drinks tray.
The lighting is quite harsh and if you want to read in the lounge area, all the lights have to be on, disturbing anyone in the bedroom area, why not provide a lamp beside the sofa or chair?
Breakfast began at 8 am and we sat down just after, to be told that there was no gluten free cereals, so decided upon yoghurt and ordered smoked salmon and scrambled egg on GF toast which was delicious. After eating my yoghurt the waitress brought out of the kitchen 3 tubs of fruit to the breakfast buffet table, should they not have been there at 8 am when breakfast started?
Any one of these points alone would not have lead to my writing this review, but together i felt compelled to share my disappointing experience, although i did hope to be contacted privately by the Dower House after filling in a review card with the above points, but sadly i no contact has been made.

Nice quiet location. Easy walk into the village and to the famous Kinema in the Woods. Breakfast was good, catered for vegetarian/vegan requirements. Check in experience wasn’t particularly good. Not a very warm welcome, no explanation of where breakfast would be served, etc. No “how was your journey here?” No “have a nice stay.” Card details taken in case of damage. Could have been handled a bit more “lightly”. Mistake with my booking - I’d paid for breakfast but that hadn’t been noted on the hotel’s system. I was told it wasn’t a problem and that I could pay for breakfast… until I showed my reservation details. Every time I walked past reception during my stay it was either closed or I wasn’t acknowledged. Check out was functional, no “glad you’ve enjoyed your stay” or “have a safe onward journey”. Breakfast staff were good, but I don’t like being asked “will anyone be joining you?” when I’m clearly on my own. Shower heads need a good deep clean, one light above desk wasn’t working and I would’ve liked 2 big towels. But nice big room with patio doors which I liked. Overall it was a nice experience, but with a few tweaks could’ve been wonderful.

So I've had two trips to this hotel in a week. The hotel itself is located down a small road. The building is very nice and clean. Upon checking in the first time, I was told I'd be staying in the lodge which is opposite the main hotel. The Lodge was very clean. There are lifts available. My room was large, had plenty of space and was super clean. The second stay I was located in the lodge but on the ground floor which was nice. Room was slightly smaller but still had the same things available, ie, kettle, ironing board etc. There were doors from the bedroom to the outside which is ideal for a smoker like me. Dinner was had in the bar and restaurant. The restaurant is preferred as it's slightly quieter. The fish and chips were outstanding. So was the burger. Their breakfast is also very good. Great service and amazing staff. The hotel is quiet but shops and the main high street are about a 5 minute walk. Here's the negatives. The water is very hot and there is plenty of signage. The only problem was that I used the hot water and hot water also came out of the cold tap. This was a one off. The cold water was cool. In the summer it'd be nice if it was ice cold. The TVs are basic. Apart from that I'd definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone. It's also used as a wedding venue and I can see why.

This was the 3rd time my wife and I had stayed at this fine hotel. We decided it was the perfect place to bring our group of Friends for a 4 day break. Originally there was 24 of us booked in but due to unforeseen circumstances 7 had to cancel at various times. The hotel was very understanding.

The service during our stay was first class and the food excellent for such a large group. We choose our 3 course meals for the night at breakfast.

ALL the staff were helpful. polite and made our stay perfect. In summary it would be difficult to imagine a higher professional standard. Full credit to Peter Ford the General Manager for such high standards and he leads from the front - even on breakfast duty!

I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - we stayed in the Lodge and all our group gave it top marks! We will definitely return again to this lovely hotel in it's tranquil setting. Great value and exceptional service. Also for a group visit there is ample safe parking for many cars and our group all came in their classic Jaguars.
