Detailed Reviews
Perfect place to stay in the charming village of Castelvetro. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, parking was a short walk away, and the food at the restaurant was amazing - one of the best dinners we had in Italy. The staff were also terrific, especially Andrea, who gave us great advice on a nearby hiking trail, great food and wine recommendations during dinner, and when we told him the next stop on our trip was Bologna he gave us a recommendation for one of his favourite restaurants there and it did not disappoint. We had debated about staying the weekend here or in Modena and are so glad we chose here, it's really a great base for exploring the region, with wineries, balsamic producers, and the Ferrari museums all within easy driving distance.

We had a wonderful lunch, with amazing, kind and professional service. Our Sommelier Andrea Made a recommendation of the best sparkling wine, and our gracious waitress Greta made sure that we were comfortable at all times. It was truly one of the best lunch experiences we have ever had. We would love to come back many times. I highly recommend a stop if you are anywhere nearby. In fact, a special trip would be very much worthwhile. The ambience and surroundings are relaxing and the food is outstanding.

Close by parking, warm welcome + help in arranging Lambrusco tour, nice room, excellent dinner and wine matching (for a price), good breakfast, and the nicest hosts-brothers. What else one needs (except more time)? Nothing. Will we return? Of course!

Obviously there are more precious jewels in the crown of Emilia Romagna than this small hillside village. But - at some point you get tired of all the landmarks, the museums and the intensity of the big cities. You look towards the soft hills between Emilia Romagne and Tuscany and wonder if would be like to spend some time there. Go! It is a great experience and in Castelvetro di Modena you will find this hidden gem and the nicest host, Andrea, and his staff. It is quiet, it is romantic, it is postcard-beauty and it is all you need if you want to relax. The village itself is a great experience, although it may not embrace all your ambitions about "all inclusive" when it comes to shopping, spa, roof top gardens, or whatever you might fancy. Bu this is exactly the charm of the entire area. Andrea, the owner and your host, will be able to support you with any kind of help you might need to find the best parmeganeria, the best balsamico, the best coffee and so on.. You will need a car, yes, but the reward is that you get to see the best of Emilia Romagna. The restaurant is worth the travel itself. Andrea's brother is in charge and he makes the most delicious food based on local products and all recipes are unique, but true to the local traditions. As a bonus, Andrea is one of the best sommeliers I have met: He knows his local wines - and far beyond them. Listen to his advice and you will have some great wine experiences. If you are a fan of great coffee - go to Vignola ( a 15 min. drive) to Cafe Terzi. They have excellent coffee and a very good barista. Other good restaurants in CdM include Restaurant & Café Eglise . You can eat outside in the beautiful small square in front of the church. The rooms at the locanda are all special and personal in their design. It is a very good bargain for such a high quality, but he real star is the hospitality of the staff and in particular, Andrea Rossi. We stayed three nights and we will come back again for sure. Enjoy!

I spent 4 nights in this hotel with my family during a trip to Emilia Romagna. We were 2 adults and 2 children, so I chose to book 2 rooms on the same floor. The hotel has only 6 rooms, 2 each floor over 3 floors, and the 2 rooms we booked were pretty much identical. A suite with a common are with a sofa and a living space, plus a bedroom and a bath.
We found the place very quiet, with very comfortable beds, beautifully appointed rooms with old style furniture, lots of storage and a small fridge. The bathrooms, especially the showers, are a little small, but that is common in old buildings in Europe; toiletries were high end (Fragonard). A/C was working well.
There was a small elevator but was rarely needed. Breakfast was excellent with limited choices of food but really tasty, plus they will prepare for you eggs or other hot items on request.
The best thing of the hotel was how kind and dedicated to the place are their owners: two brothers, one a sommelier/hotel manager and the other a chef; they pour their heart into this small establishment and are so friendly and helpful that you feel you are staying at their house, not a hotel.
The small number of rooms also makes you feel like you have the place to yourself, just like in a great bed and breakfast.
I will review the excellent restaurant separately, but that alone is worth a trip to this small beautiful town of Castelvetro di Modena.
I strongly recommend spending one or two nights to explore the town or make it your base for an in depth trip of the Modena area.
Grazie Andrea e Roberto!

The reviews of this place are spot on. This place is absolutely fantastic!
It’s a super small place, suites only, run by two fantastic brothers, and everyone we met working there could not have been more friendly and helpful.
We only stayed one night (which we now regret) and had to leave before breakfast time the next day. Not a problem - we will serve breakfast early for you! And they did. With a huge smile and with pleasure.
It’s a small town, with not much to do but this place was a delight. If you get the chance - stay here!

Our honeymoon, 2 weeks in Italy. This little place is our favourite memory of all.
Romantic historical building, beautifully clean, and with everything we might need. Wonderful breakfast included every morning.
Business is run by two brothers, with the support of their retired parents. One runs the hotel, and is a sommelier, the other, a chef, runs the kitchen.
Cannot rate highly enough, stay here for tour time in Emilia Romana, and use it as your base.

A fabulous little hotel of only 6 "suites", miles from any major city but surrounded in history and friendliness. Had a room on the top floor, all of them named after flowers and only 2 rooms to a floor. Good sized rooms and have all the amenities you usually only get in the top hotels (shoe sponge, sewing kit, etc). Only down sides were the fact that the room walls adjoining bathrooms were so thin, you could hear everything and the parking was difficult (you have to squeeze between sets of trees, so don't rent a land rover to get there!) Breakfast was limited but enough of everything and he'd cook scrambled eggs for you. Dinner in the restaurant was fabulous though if a little on the expensive side. However if 2 of you have the same meal it's significantly cheaper (€38 each for 3 courses). Good wine menu and in the prettiest location you could imagine. (So pretty they regularly have photo shoots there as when we arrived and there was a photography crew and a couple of models and shiny new motorbikes). Good base for visiting the motor museums around there as both Ferrari museums, Lamborghini, Maserati, Pagani are all within an hours drive. Also just around the corner (literally 1min walk is a fabulous balsamic vinegar manufacturer and shop that lets you try the different vinegars and glazes.
All staff are lovely.
Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at this peaceful, intimate, well-run Inn. We were warmly greeted & felt very welcome. Our suite was traditionally furnished but not cluttered, with everything functioning well including the bathroom. The village is small but with a good variety of restaurants, however we opted to eat dinner at the hotel. The menu is not large, but with beautifully prepared regional dishes & an excellent wine list. Breakfast was perfect with an amazing selection of cakes, fresh fruit, made to order eggs, and beverages of choice. Easy, free parking just a few meters away.We highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Modena region.

The village is beautiful and the hosts are very polite and knowledgeable. The hotel is also clean. Unfortunately the rooms need modernisation. The kitchen is also practically open plan and hence there is a lot of noise until around midnight or even 1am on Fridays. The prices are very high for the quality of room offered which is in essence a bed and breakfast. The food is good in the affiliated restaurant.
