Welcome to MOTU, formerly Royale Takitumu. We are Rarotonga’s newest boutique resort. Tucked away on the shores of the lagoon, MOTU (meaning island) is a stylish haven for tranquillity and relaxation. Offering ten self-contained villas, each is secluded within tropical gardens laden with colourful native plants and flowers. The newly modernised villas invite sophisticated relaxation, with designer interiors and a collection of artworks from across the Pacific. Each villa is air-conditioned and features a spacious bedroom, living area, kitchenette and bathroom, as well as a shaded balcony. You can look forward to exploring the colourful sea life of the lagoon with snorkelling and kayaking gear included with each stay, as well as electric bicycles for discovering the beauty of this tiny nation and its people. Or recline by the fresh-water pool and enjoy a local beer on tap. In high summer you will experience blazing sunrises and sunsets beyond the reef. Our intimate size allows for personalised care for all our guests and is perfect for romantic getaways. We give our environment and our iti tangata (our people) the same care as our guests. We use environmentally friendly products, state of the art wastewater management, and electric vehicles to help preserve our piece of paradise. The majority of our profits support our island community through healthcare, education and the arts, and every stay at MOTU contributes to this. We look forward to welcoming you to MOTU – our island within an island.

This was a top spot to stay, fully self contained and they give you a breakfast basket to start you off which lasted us 4 days. We had the use of E-bikes so never bothered hiring a scooter, biked everywhere. It’s a small boutique resort which was perfect for us, with a great beach. Very clean and helpful staff

We had a delightful 9 nights at Motu. It was simply one of best places we have stayed - beautifully appointed, comfortable, and efficient. And that Beach - WOW! Our thanks to Tim and Lucille, and their team for attending to every detail. They were all incredibly helpful and friendly - special shout outs to Amandine, and Mai’i but they were all great from the groundskeeper to the housekeepers. The resort does not have a restaurant or bar, but the team were very helpful making recommendations and reservations at neighbouring venues, around the Island. And we self catered several meals in the nice little kitchenette in the villa, with full-sized fridge. It is worth thinking in advance about those arrangements as the south coast is much quieter than the other sides of the island. Nearby are the restaurant at Little Polynesian, and Charlie’s pub, at opposite ends of the cost and sophistication spectrum- but both are excellent. A highlight of the trip was fish ‘n’ chips with a beer at Charlie’s, and seeing the whales swimming by on the other side of the reef. The dinner at Little Polynesian was fantastic- definitely met our high expectations. We also had a great final meal at Nautilus. Definitely will be back to Motu, and recommend it when we can travel again.

We stayed in a beachfront villa and it was absolute paradise. It was our first time to Rarotonga and to be honest, with Fiji our only other point of reference in the Pacific Islands, we were probably a bit unprepared for how relaxed and casual Rarotonga is by comparison. That being said, Motu is a complete slice of heaven. The view from standing at our villa front patio was uninterrupted palm trees and crystal clear blue water. Motu has all the amentities you would expect: rooms are serviced daily, and the on-site staff are incredibly helpful. We also loved that on day one when we had arrived, they had stocked the fridge with delicious bread from a loca bakery, butter, eggs, honey, milk, and also provided a large bowl of fresh fruit. Such a nice touch! They also took us down to the local store to get some additional supplies. If I came to Rarotonga again, and I certainly hope to, I would definitely stay at a beachfront Villa here at Motu. When we went to other resorts for dinner we realised how special Motu is, because when you come to a tropical island really what is better than stepping out your door onto the sand?!

We have recently returned from a stay at Motu. The on going upgrades to this property is making it a great adults only option. We were lucky to have met the owners who are lovingly polishing this resort. The location is the key. The beach out front is arguably the best on Raro. Low tide it is still sublime for a swim or snorkel. Heaps of fish to look at in only waist deep water. We were well looked after by the staff and management who pride themselves on care for individual comfort and enjoyment .Choose the beachfront if you can but the beach view options all have privacy and a peek at the lagoon.

My wife and I spent five days at the Royale Takitumu, but unfortunately had to cut our visit short due to the coronavirus pandemic and border closures. However, in our brief and tumultuous time (caused by having to work through re-booking flights home as borders closed), we were able to enjoy the accommodations supplied by Tim and Lucille Meyer, the property managers. We stayed in suite 2, which was right on the beach. What an awesome way to relax, by being able to step out onto a sandy beach and turquoise blue water. The suite was well appointed and super comfortable. We especially enjoyed having our morning espresso with the coffee machine every morning, to the sound of the waves breaking on the reef and beach. The grounds of the resort are immaculate, and it is clear the staff and management take great pride in maintaining them daily. Kayaks, e-bikes and snorkelling equipment were all supplied by the resort, and we used each one. But probably the greatest thing about this resort, at least from our perspective, was the staff. The folks looking after the grounds and our suite always had a smile for us, something that was very comforting during some stressful days. And I am not sure how I can possibly express my appreciation for the way were treated by Tim and Lucille, who made sure we had to many complimentary internet vouchers, their office telephone for long distance calls to Canada and New Zealand, and just general support when we were needing it. We've stayed at a lot of resorts in our travels, but I have to say that the way we treated by the folks at the Royale Takitumu tops them all. We hope to be back there in the future to finish our visit to the Cook Islands.

Kia Orana, thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review on Trip Advisor. Please excuse that it has taken me a while to get back to you. The Corona crisis has kind of taken over for a while but now the Cook Islands are officially labeled CORVID-19 free zone! We live in a happy bubble now until travel resumes. The team is still here and we are making sure that when corona is in the past the property will look better than it ever has and that we deliver the first class Royale Takitumu service that you are used to. We hope to see you again on our beach in Titikaveka! Until then, please stay healthy and look after each other! Love from the whole team at Royale Takitumu Tim Meyer Manager
