A tranquil setting - warm sitting room replete with tartans and (were they portraits or hunting scenes, I can't recall), a gas fire and a good selection of whiskies. Our welcome on arrival could have been friendlier. But the next morning Nicky, serving breakfast, made up for this with her expert and enthusiastic advice on Mull, Iona, and camping. Breakfast...

We stayed for one night at this hotel beautifully located next to a lake just a 15 minute drive from Oban. Although the staff was friendly the rooms did not make up for it, nor did they validate the high fee for the stay. The bathrooms were small and the tiling sadly looked like you'd stepped back in to the...

the outside is charming but the inside needs some TLC. The dining room in the oldest part of the hotel was used for breakfast which was lovely---the rooms themselves are old and tired...outdated bathrooms. beds were soft and sagged to the middle. young staff are working very hard to bring it all together, and keeping it all straight. seemed that...

Lovely setting and convenient for Oban. Service was good overall (Kris in the restaurant was excellent) and both breakfasts and evening meals were of high quality. Housekeeping excellent but for a family-run hotel had very much a business rather than a family atmosphere. Room had everything required but reception staff not all that helpful with wi-fi problem.

We used this hotel as an overnight (convenient for early ferry from Oban) but having stayed before we got what we expected. The owners try hard but are obviously struggling. It is obvious staffing is an issue with the same person meeting and greeting on arrival, manning the bar ,taking orders for dinner and serving the food. Menu for dinner...

We stayed at the Knipoch for two reasons (1) it was my birthday treat, and (2) they take dogs. We had a lovely room overlooking the loch, and a comfortable bed (the older I get the fewer comfortable beds there seem to be!). The staff seemed genuinely pleased to see us and couldn't do enough for us. We ate in...

Although this IS an elegant old hotel overlooking the water and quiet - the staffing is so lean as to be almost invisible. There is essentially no service - other than maid service - between about 10:00 am and 7:00 pm. Restaurant doesn't open until 19:30. Clearly it has a following - perhaps stressed out urbanites from Glascow - but...

A few miles outside Oban, this hotel overlooks the loch (though there is a fairly busy road in-between, which isn't apparent from the file photos). The public rooms are comfortable and elegantly furnished, and despite some other reviewers' comments the rooms we had were spacious and comfortable. Dining was a pleasure, dinner is served fairly late and bringing small children...

Good food, great staff, they aim to please. Highly recommended. We had to leave early to get to Edinburgh and the owner prepared us a package lunch with detailed driving tips around Glasgow. Very personal service. Nice roomy accommodations. We will be back.

Dark, drepressing room in need of upgrading with bathroom in need of total refurbishment! Could not believe the menu. It was like something you would make at home on a Tuesday evening!! Definitely not worth anything like the money they were charging!! So outdated and unimaginative!! My husband said it was a bit like school dinners!! Breakfast was very average too!...

Nestling beside Loch Feochan in Argyll, Scotland, lays Knipoch Hotel (pronounced neepoch -och as in loch). This four star country house hotel is privately owned and run by the Craig family. We opened Knipoch as a hotel in 1981 when the original building was refurbished with the reception, kitchen and bedroom wing being added.Prior to this it was our family home with a history. In 1592, Campbell, Thane of Cawdor was assassinated here at the "house of Knipoch in Lorne".In England as well as Scotland, hotels vary and individually owned hotels each have a personality.
