Room 218, front door handle not working, a dark, dreary room, curtains ill-fitting, dated decor, wall lamps not working but one was fixed, plumbing noisy it cost me $477 for 3 nights for the price not very good value at all. The venue is set in a nice location, staff friendly, pool clean and warm, good spot to base yourself, it's a shame that a little money has not been put into this room to make it more desirable, a floor light, pictures, decent curtain rails would enhance this room greatly. There is no excuse for poor maintenance when charging premium rates.

Given this is low cost accommodation some would say ‘you get what you pay for’
I mostly object to the huge disparity from the website and the reality experienced. We were so disappointed overall.
This place is tired -the bed and linen were old/ grey & desperately need replacing. The room was a good size although bland, the bathroom in disrepair, the indoor pool wasn’t heated as advertised, general upkeep was messy and untidy ie walkways/ paths although the lawns were mowed. The lake is actually a small dam dominated by ducks and bird droppings back by a highway.
The layout/ building facade is attractive although cigarette trays along every balcony resulted in smoking outside our room which was revolting and surely is an 80s hangover- our biggest compliant

All this ensured we did not eat in the restaurant.
The ‘gaming facility’ appeared to be the priority of the ‘resort’
So much potential with the buildings but a revamp is required. I was glad there wasnt a function the night we stayed as i would suggest i have more comment on.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient

Tired rooms need updating. Staff need more training, friendly at times but pretty clueless. $100. holding deposit with credit card is outdated. Customer service for follow up enquiry is abrupt and not helpful.
Overpriced for accommodation, dining meals are average, we were not informed that no food was available on Monday and Tuesday due to covid when booking.
The grounds are nice and some staff made an effort.

Like others, I was appalled at this restaurant's food. I asked for steak and it was a small piece like charred steak un-edible. Small bowl of salad with yucky dressing. A huge plate of chips! Ment to have mushroom gravy but no mushrooms in it like other places, & really runny. $25 worth for nothing as I couldn't eat it. My friend had snitzel which was no better, a very small piece dried up. Infact I have never seek a snitzel so small. She didn't eat hers either. All up $50 spent on nothing. The girl at the desk was rude & abrupt. The waiters we the only nice thing about our experience. We will never return there I have told friends & family not to go their either. Don't put so much emphasis on the pokies & look after you eating in patrons.

Our room at St Francis Winery was a great disappointment. It did not appear that the group had been upgraded, painted our renovated for mangy years. The paint was marked and in places had been knocked off the woodwork. The establishment offers room service but in our room there was a small desk in one corner fixed to the wall, and one chair. A little difficult for 2 people to eat a meal. Parking was some distance from the room and it meant dragging our suitcases quite some distance in the cold and rain. Our suitcases had to stay on the floor as there were no racks on which to put them. I had to ask for a hairdryer as there was none in the room. The staff at reception were friendly but I was surprised to be asked for a $100 security deposit. We didn't know before booking that the venue is basically a pokies outlet (adjacent to the restaurant) and a function centre, certainly not primarily an accommodation facility. I'm sure there was a lake but we didn't see it from our room.

I booked a room here because I had an all day event mid week to attend nearby and didn't want to travel back to Adelaide that evening. I was looking for an inexpensive - safe place to stay which is exactly what I got. On arrival I was warmly greeted and able to check in at noon which was appreciated. Enjoyed a glass of wine in the bar with two friends.
Whilst my room was in need of a little update it was in fact very clean, the bed was comfortable, bathroom was fine and I had tea and coffee making facilities - perfect.

Next morning I explored the area and was delighted to find an excellent coffee shop for breakfast and the clothing store Woolcock in which I could have spent a small fortune. Exquisite clothing and service with amazing glass roof.

I would recommend staying at this winery it met my expectations for the price bracket.

The key of the room was not working when we came back from dinner at 9 pm , nobody was at the reception and the person at the bar/game room was unpleasant and refused to lets us know when the person in charge will come back . We have to wait 45 minutes before somebody came to help us .
The room was presented with a kitchenette with kitchenware , but there was no kitchenette in the room , there was only a fridge and a boiler ( see photo attached ) . The mattress are of poor quality
At checking , we have to paid the room and an additional 100 AUD for security deposit . This request of 100 AUD was never announced in the booking and doesn't seems required as we were already present at the hotel and have already paid the room . The employe was unable to explain the reason of this 100 AUD additional .

Having booked a table for 6 we were seated at a table for 4....
The menu online sounded delicious & for $55 a head I was expecting better that what we recieved.
The antipasto plate was more like a woolies bought jar of marinated bits & pieces poured onto the plate topped with hummus, stale pita bread & a few slices of deli meat.. a small serving for 6 people.

The first main of sholder of lamb was ok...
The second main, whole roast chook was nothing like advertised. No fresh mango chutney, No duck fat potato, the cauliflower gratin looked like chunky orange baby vomit, green beans were actually grey and no garlic butter!!

The dessert was a chocolate covered moose with a slither of strawberry & whipped cream! No vanilla Chantilly cream, no fresh strawberries & definitely no candied orange!!

Not happy with the overall experience and probably wount be back. Bit expensive for what was served & service was pretty poor!!

Comfortable venue, charming young male waiter. However, the food quality is less than good. We were first to order while restaurant was quiet, so no excuses. The prawn cocktail was tasty. My small rump steak was over-cooked and not medium-rare as ordered, the pepper gravy was basic and the salad didn’t have any dressing. My partner’s chicken schnitzel was small and very dry. We didn’t fuss at the time, but told waiter when he collected the plates. He offered us free coffee which helped make amends. I think management should query the kitchen staff, as they just lost two potential regulars.

Reading previous reviews I was wondering what I might find but this is quite an ok place to stay. Yes it is dated and paint not perfect. Our room looked like it had had updated floors. It was clean. Daily maid service. Free toiletries and tea coffee etc. The kitchenette was adequate for heating up microwave dinners and baking garlic bread. We never used the stove top but I’m sure it would have been fine for anyone wanting to boil a vegetable. The pool wasn’t warm, but good temp if you want to do a few short laps. The restaurant food was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful. Open 4 nights a week but a short walk away you can get great food at the pub, Indian restaurant and Chinese a little further up the road. Foodland is a minute’s walk with post, chemist and other shops in the small centre. If you have a car, you are 20mins from the city, closer to some of the wineries, safari zoo, Hahndorf and Victor Harbour. Other reviewers complained about the gaming room. Gaming is everywhere in SA and considering there’s a large retirement village across the road, the gaming room may help pay for some further refurbishment of the rooms. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable place out of the city, this place fits the bill.
