We recently spent a few night at in the Zen Villa. The Villa is beautiful and so peaceful. The villa is beautifully decorated, and has some really beautiful light fittings! The kitchen is really well stocked with cooking utensils etc, so you can easily cook a meal or two at home if you wish. Plenty of utensils including dim sum steamer which we used daily! We were left milk, juice, fruit and cereal for breakfast. There was also a great selection of teas, hot chocolate, jam, honey, ketchup and Vegemite. The washing machine and dryer was a lovely surprise after travelling for a few weeks. Big tv, with netflix and all of the streaming packages you could ever want. Highly recommend. We'll be back again, but next time will also include the cooking school.

My wife and I stayed for one night in the “Bali” villa. Very modern and everything you would want for a relaxing stay. The location is very quiet although I did wake up around 5am to birds singing outside but went back to sleep immediately. We were provided breakfast provisions and a bottle of wine which was greatly appreciated. We also attended the cooking school which was enjoyable. Highly recommend.

This was a surprise for my wife who had no clue as to our destination suffice to say that she enjoyed every minute of the experience.
Under the expert guidance of Head Chef at Peel Street restaurant Phil Helyard our Thai cooking experience was turned into a great evening of fun and cooking. Split into 3xteams all trying to achieve that perfect taste extrvaganza. Entree and main course were served with wines which flowed generously and complemented the prepared meals. Can highly recommend this cooking experience even for the novice like me!
From there it was on to our Bali themed villa which was fitted out with every imaginable gadget and comfort. Everything was catered for from scented candles to upmarket toiletries. You wanted for nothing. We will be back.

A hidden gem - Stylish & attention to detail was second to none. Bedroom was spacious yet cosy, both the bathroom & bedroom overlooked a private Japanese styled garden. Open kitchen & sitting room with large TV was beautifully decorated, functional & comfortable. I intend to make this my regular destination (& maybe add a cooking class or chef catered dinner) when returning to Adelaide from the UK.

My husband and I had multiple recent occasions to celebrate and wanted a trip away from our little darlings. I found sticky rice online and seem to meet our need to have a restful break away. With Covid restrictions in place and finding somewhere to stay with an on-site restaurant was tough.
Sticky rice was perfect we took advantage of a package where you create a three course meal and a night in a villa. My husband and I are not the best cooks so I was a little worried but the staff and Yuki put us at ease from the beginning. Somehow we made a tasty lunch with lots of laughs.

The villa was very clean and was perfect. It was romantic, secluded and intimate. We had brought some food with us so we did not need the villa. It was a restful evening and night and gave my husband and I quality time together.

We would really recommend sticky rice for a great and different break away and close to Adelaide CBD. The staff were relaxed and caring. Yuki was knowledgeable and adapted the recipe for my dislike of very spicy food. The villa was comfortable and well equipped.

We could not have asked for a better experience. We had a private cooking class during the day with Chef Yukkiko. This was perfect, Yuki was fun, patient and so knowledgable. The food we made was amazing, and the experience of cooking and dining was indulgent. We have already recreated one of the recipes. We then stayed the night in Villa Yoko. The villa was incredible, better than the photos and very romantic. Overall we found the staff to be incredibly amazing and thoughtful, they went above and beyond to create an incredible experience and it was worth every cent. I do hope we come back one day soon.

We stayed in the Zen villa, it was amazing. The owners have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay perfect. My husband said he felt like a king and we didn't want to leave. Highly recommend and to do one of the cooking classes (we have done many before). We thoroughly enjoyed our night with the fabulous chef Yuki and host Daniel. A big thank you to Jack for all the washing up.

Asian inspired holiday lets
The Adelaide Hills is a beautiful area with lush landscapes and wonderful views, historic homes and spectacular vistas with a rich European history. The cooking classes are entertaining and most enjoyable, but the location is questionable. Perhaps it would be better on the coast or on a hilltop ridge with some acreage. It was disappointing to see that the villas were lined up behind the shop. The privacy was interrupted by the noise from the other courtyard next door. Expecting the units to be real villas and separate this was a disappointment. The small courtyard was landscaped well in a minimalist style, but there is no hills landscape. Imagining villas in their own space, it was a bit of a let down as they are lined up alongside each other. It is located on a main road behind an unremarkable building in what was an old shop. The statue makes for some interest. We thought we could walk to Stirling, but it is just too far. The kitchen and appliances were spectacular. The Asian vibe has been well considered, with light and space, but some carpet underfoot would have been appreciated. We wished we had been blown away by the total experience, but it was really the location and design that disappointed. Other villas in the hills have a greater sense of space and belonging in the landscape. Perhaps expectations were just too high. It is a great novelty concept, that could have been almost perfect.

Dear Lorraine, reading your review I am sorry that you seem disappointed in our location and lack of acreage or hill top views. I can agree 100% with you that we are not a rural country style B&B and neither do we allude to be, so I am just sorry that your expectation was this before your stay. I am glad you found some things to your liking including the cooking class and thank you for taking the time to write a review however I feel your choice of words and sentiment about the ‘old shop’ are rather misleading to the reader. We celebrate the local history and share this with guests and we no doubt told you that the cooking school building (1940s) was, prior to extensive renovations 9 years ago, various things including a family home, post office and a deli for the local community. I think your review which implies that the villas are ‘holiday lets’ lined up behind an ‘old shop’ is rather unfair. Our accommodation is a modern, award winning architectural build. The villas are set at the back of the property away from the road with their own private car parking areas and the cooking school and reception area is at the front of the property. We are located in beautiful Stirling and are exactly 1.5km from the main street of Stirling village which could be too far to walk for some and a 15 minute walk for others. We offer luxury fitted kitchens and private chef experiences in the villas as well as weekend cooking class packages for those guests wishing to utilise the cooking school during their stay as you did. Cooking classes are optional and we offer self-catering rates or guests can choose to add daily room service. We do not offer long term holiday lets. We do not wish to mislead anyone and are very proud of our accommodation so to clarify; The villas are adjoining, each having private entrances, 1 king bedroom with ensuite and a separate living/kitchen area amounting to approx. 70m2 of internal space. Floor to ceiling glass creates the seamless connection with the outdoors and the kitchen/ living areas are deliberately curtain free. Bali and Yoko Villa have surrounding private gardens enclosed by courtyard walls whilst Zen villa is in the middle and has the front courtyard and garden views from the bedroom but no rear garden access which ensures the privacy of guests using the other 2 rear gardens. With regard to carpets, we love the look and style of the polished concrete floors which is in keeping with our Asian styling. The underfloor heating and energy saving thermal qualities of the sun flooded concrete floors is also part of the reason that the villas have won both building and design awards so carpet lovers please beware! Kind Regards Sticky Rice

We were in the middle villa (think that was the Zen one) and the first night was ok as there were no guests in the villas next door but on the second night we could hear them talking, the shower running etc.
While the accommodation was 'nice' it was missing the final touches to make it 'luxury' - the cupboard door on the edge of the bedhead was broken and the cables for the TV were just hanging not concealed at all (might sound a bit picky but when you are paying a lot of money you expect all the final little touches).

Firstly I should say that my wife booked this - and she rated it 4.5 stars. The space itself is very nice, but it is also pretty expensive for Adelaide. And so it should be pretty much perfect. There were some flaws - we both found the bed itself to be hot - so much so I thought that an electric blanket had been fitted. We wanted to use the fire-pit, but it was half full of water, the extra wood they provided was green cuttings from around the area and was therefore no good. The toilet has no door and runs a noisy fan whenever used (it is dark).

Thank you for taking the time to use Trip Advisor to share your experience at Sticky Rice Villas. I can clarify for you that the Balinese and Yoko Villas have top of the range Tempur mattresses which have no heating device fitted to them. There is underfloor heating and reverse cycle climate control in all villas and in Bali villa ( which you and your wife stayed in) there is also a bedroom ceiling fan and opening windows and doors for cross ventilation. Unfortunately the outdoor fire pits in the garden are exposed to the weather here in the hills which is why we have dry fire wood on hand for any guests who wish to use it. I only wish you had called the office number and we could have given you new wood without any fuss at all. With regard to the design of the Balinese bathroom I am sorry if it wasn't for you but it sounds like your wife at least enjoyed the theme. The Zen villa and Yoko Villas have closed in toilets for those that prefer less open plan. We understand that is is the small things which can make a huge difference to personal opinions and I am only sorry that you felt let down by some things which have been standout for others. I do hope you will consider using us again. Kind Regards Sticky Rice Villas
