Staying at Thorngrove was a truly special experience. The grounds were immaculate and beautiful. The rooms and antique furniture was stunning and suited the estate perfectly. We appreciated the in room compendium’s with information regarding the local area, property, antiques and our specific suite. Adelaide was really hot the day we stayed but our entire suite, including the stairwell, was nice and cool, the perfect temperature. It was lovely to walk into some wonderful folk music playing upon entry. Great selection of CD’s, games, DVD’s and things to keep you entertained, we wish we had more time there. Having two bathrooms in a 1 bedroom suite was a great luxury. Ken & Nydia took wonderful care of us and made us feel like royalty. We loved chatting with Ken about the incredible property. The food was 10/10, amazing. Afternoon tea, 3 course dinner & our breakfast were all delicious, fresh & high quality. The love & care put into the experience by the hosts is evident. For us, absolutely worth the money and we will be back again. Thank you Thorngrove!

I first discovered Thorngrove when googling "fantasy carved bedheads" back in February 2021 via a picture tagged "Game of Thrones style places you can stay" and noted for future reference that despite the extensive European gothic styling outside and in - it is in fact located in the Adelaide Hills district of South Australia. Fast forward to the October long weekend 2023 and my wife and I embarked upon a 30th wedding anniversary holiday trip - nominally to the Barossa. She has always had "night in a castle turret" on her bucket list since before we were married - so while expensive, it was a too good opportunity to make a dream come true. Thorngrove exceeded expectations. Hosts Kenneth & Nydia are committed to making your stay a delight in every aspect. Friendly hospitality, gourmet served fine dining meals featuring regional fresh produce, manor house formal gardens, every carefully crafted nook within the solidly and magnificently engineered castle buildings has some meticulous artistic touch, every vintage furniture piece a sometimes incredible back story, all part of a life long owner built and collected vision. It's close to the Mount Lofty botanic gardens and the Hahndorf village if you need exercise after the bountiful breakfast. All the rooms are unique and stunning, but our personal preference was to stay in the Observatory - and just to complete the fairy tale atmosphere that night - featured high, howling winds and an extensive wild electrical storm. Magic.

This place is absolutely amazing! Whimsical fairytale architecture unsurpassed by anything I've ever seen (and I have travelled a lot!). The owners have somehow distilled the most magical beautiful parts of gothic and other architectures of a grand bygone era into one building that in my view beats out much more well known amazing architectural masterpieces of Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry. But this place is so much more than the incredible architecture. It has layer after layer of intricate history enshrined in the vast array of valuable living antiques that form a usable part of the live in rooms of this architectural gem. Ken and Nydia bring this all to life in real time. And the food, oh my word you will feel like pampered royalty. No Hungry Jacks for this boy! If you wish to treat yourself and your partner just once in your lifetime, make sure it's this place. Karl and Amanda

Thorngrove Manor is a beautiful and Magical place to stay. The architecture is magnificent. Antiques, furniture, fabrics, china and linen, all so beautiful. The food and the way it was presented. WOW. We stayed 2 nights in the Queens Chambers. Celebrated a special Birthday. We felt like Royalty. Treated like the King and Queen. We were treated so special. It is the most memorable experience, we will treasure forever. We will never ever forget. Thank you Ken and Nydia for your wonderful hospitality. Highly recommended. I chose Thorngrove as the place to propose to my partner and it was absolutely perfect. I've lived in the Hills most of my life and always wondered what a stay at Thorngrove would be like and it did not disappoint! Ken's hospitality was amazing and the food Nydia served up was incredible. She was more than happy to cater to our vegetarian diets. With the fire going in the castle chambers surrounded by beautiful antiques it was truly a romantic stay we will never forget.

Thorngrove Manor is truly beautiful. We decided to have our wedding photos taken there, even though it was winter. The beauty of the place transcended the season, creating a picturesque backdrop for our special day. Nydia and Ken, the wonderful hosts of the castle, showered us with warmth and hospitality. I am thrilled that this castle has witnessed such a joyful moment in our lives.

Staying at Thorngrove Manor was a dream come true, pinch me Am I Dreaming kind of experience. From the very first email correspondence with Nydia to the warm welcome from Ken, Thorngrove Manor, far exceeded my expectations. I booked Thorngrove for a very special date with my partner and the experience did not disppoint. The attention to detail of this place is unmatched. Our 3 course organic dinner was delicious and lick the plate worthy. Chocolates and Port in the afternoon was a lovely treat and afternoon tea was made up of fresh and sumptuous morsels of yumminess. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was perhaps, the most magical and wonderful experience we have shared and one that we will never forget. Exemplary service provided by both Nydia and Ken, exquisite rooms filled with authentic antiques and phenomenonal dining awaits. Do yourself a favour and visit this unbelievable place. An absolute dream come true. Thank you both.

Magical, phenomenal, exceptional, astonishing - These words do not even come close to describing how breathtaking and mind blowing Thorngrove Manor truly is... We were lucky enough to hold our small wedding on the grounds of Ken and Nydias fairy tale like castle. Staying 2 nights in the castle chambers and let me tell you, we felt like a King and Queen for the entire stay. We have stayed before but continue to be blown away by the picturesque surroundings and the intricate detail in not only the architecture, but the experience provided as well. There is really nothing else like this in South Australia. As we were staying for 2 nights, we were served an exquisite afternoon tea on arrival before selecting a place on the grounds for our ceremony which was actually quite difficult given the immaculately presented gardens on the property. We then dined privately in our chamber for dinner with what can only be described as 7-star restaurant quality. As abit of a foodie myself, I'm astonished by the care, presentation and taste of the meals served. Truely of the highest quality! As the night cooled, Ken was happy to allow us to use the fire in the upstairs portion of the chamber, this created the most relaxing atmosphere we have ever experienced, the large comfortable bed, the crackling of the fire with a glass of scotch off to the side.. For the evening before a wedding, all stress disappeared into that fire! Now lets get to the wedding.. "WOW!" - Was the first words of our small little guest list, even the photographer and celebrant could not believe how beautiful Thorngrove is. The weather was stunning, and the grounds provide such amazing photo opportunities, we will be sending you some of the best I promise! Ken opened up the Kings chambers for our guests to see and also some extra photo opportunities, the attention to detail in each room is just so incredible... The day went perfectly, no problems, no hassles, just pure bliss. There was nothing else in the entire world besides us and Thorngrove on that day. You have created such a magical and otherworldly experience! We cannot thank you enough for allowing us the opportunity to share our special day with you Ken and Nydia, an unforgettable experience in which nothing else would of came close to. A 1 of a kind memory. We will absolutely be staying here again, for many years to come. If you have not stayed here yet, you need to. A true gem hidden in the Adelaide hills and a masterpiece created by Ken and Nydia. Thank you so much, Brad & Cristy
