Dear Nydia and Ken,

We visited your place at Thorngrove Manor last Sunday. Sorry that I (Leena) couldn't meet you personally at the time of leaving due to rain. We just wanted to say that it was such an amazing stay in your accommodation that no words could explain it. Your tasteful, luminous and baroque-style castle that you built on Australian soil, the perfect medieval garden that blended with Aussie autumn colours, your aesthetic sense of placing unique antique pieces, your stylish wisdom to bring bright and multifaceted flavour of the medieval European and South Australian fusion just mesmerised us. I was time travelling to the olden fairy tale times to a tall castle that I have been dreaming of to live one day since my childhood.
We couldn't actually visualise this place by looking at the website photos while booking - it was far beyond our expectation and imagination.

Thank you so much for bringing joys to many souls like ours and thank you for your warm hospitality!

 Leena/Touheed

I'm so excited I found this amazing place when I was searching for somewhere to stay to celebrate my 50th! Nydia and Ken were perfect hosts! We stayed in the Castle Chambers and were blown away with all the incredible antiques that we were allowed to use! Normally you'd just get to see them from behind a barrier at a museum! The King sized bed was SUPER comfortable! The breakfast choices were vast - we loved choosing different options each day! We also selected in room dining for one night, and again - gosh talk about 5 star fine dining!! WOW!!! And because we stayed mid week we were so very fortunate to get a sneak peak at the other rooms (as no guests were in house) - and that was so fabulous to hear how Thorngrove came about, and all the skilled artisans they were able to engage in creating this beautiful treasure of a place! Not to mention how much Ken built himself! I took quite a few photos that I'll hopefully be able to attach to the review. The gardens are also immaculately kept. I loved that all suites have their own private access/entrances too. It's such a special place and I feel very blessed we were able to experience the magic!

My husband and I had our small intimate elopement at the absolutely Magical Thorngrove Manor. We stayed in the magnificent Castle Keep & had the romantic candle lit dinner after our ceremony. It was like being transported into another time, and the food was exquisite. The personal touches in the room were so very thoughtful & the breakfast was an absolute flavor bomb with delicious coffee. Having the ceremony here in the beautiful grounds with our Violinist & Cellist was beyond special. The grounds really do take your breath away and I am looking forward to coming back for our anniversary or vow renewal! (Perhaps both!!) Nydia and Ken were so kind & helpful with my thousand and one questions leading up to our special stay, and I really can't thank you enough for the beautiful experience you gave us that we will cherish forever.

Absolutely unique luxury experience living like royalty for the night, in an actual castle, ornate with embossed ceilings, tapestries, stained glass windows, chandeliers, stone spiral staircases and beautiful hedge gardens with resident geese! Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious regional tasting platter at sunset on the verandah overlooking the observatory tower, before retiring to our castle chambers, to enjoy a glass of wine and supper by the fireplace! The hosts, Kenneth and Nydia, are both very attentive to your comfort whilst also respectful of your privacy! We were lucky enough to get a guided tour of the castle to learn about the history of the incredible building, which has been designed so uniquely with the most incredible attention to detail. Well worth treating yourselves to the magical experience while visiting the Adelaide Hills! Truly a unique experience and a photographic dream…

To experience something magical, it would normally be through a enthralling fairy tale or an engaging movie, but Thorngrove Country Manor is really a magical experience. As one marvels at the intricate detail that Ken has painstakingly toiled at for 30 years and the incredible detail that the couple have gone to in all their furnishings, their entire home is a magical place that leaves you a truly unique experience. If you have stayed there you know what I mean.....if you haven't stated there, this should be on your bucket list. 6 stars

Let me start off by saying, if I could select 10 starts - I would in a heartbeat. My Fiancé organized a night away for us on my 30th Birthday, which was a complete surprise to me and I could not think of a better way to spend it other than a night at Thorngrove Manor. First impressions - The grounds; are immaculately kept. The attention to detail in the gardens is at the highest level. The beautiful castle of Thorngrove will take your breath away in an instant and is without a doubt unrivaled in its class. Ken greeted us as we pulled up at the gate and was warm and welcoming, showing us to our room and offering to carry the bags for us. We stayed in the Castle Chambers, in which Ken happily showed us around and is extremely knowledgeable about every item in the room - If you are looking for a true Castle experience, you absolutely have to have this room. Stunning architecture and furnishings throughout - From the stone walls to the 1600s chest at the end of a bed. Beautiful! Even on a 37 degree day, this room was at a perfect temperature for arrival. We were served a delicious afternoon tea in our room by Ken, the personalized service straight away was amazing and the food! Just kept ticking boxes, 5 star experience within the first hour. After we had gorged ourselves in afternoon tea, we took some time taking in the serenity of Thorngrove. The incredibly private, romantic atmosphere of it all is one of a kind. The time came for dinner in which we had selected, right on our chosen time - I will also say Ken was extremely courteous in calling the room to ensure we were okay for a visitor each time things were bought to us. Dinner - I had no idea what to expect here.. We had never participated in private in room dining before.. Expectations blown away on all levels! The silverware, the atmosphere, the service and most of all the food.. 10 stars, 12 even! You could of put my Entrée bowl straight back in the cupboard as I made sure every flavor was taken in. My steak, perfectly cooked - Absolutely perfect. And dessert! What even was that! Best Affogato I have ever had, period! The detail in the food was way above expectations. We were lucky enough to have a lightning show at night after the hot day which just added to the magical experience in the evening, otherworldly. Slept like a newborn baby in the chambers too! We upgraded to the hot breakfast in the morning, the fresh produce is incredible - Could not fault anything here, everything perfect. After breakfast Ken was nice enough to take us on a tour of the Manor, his passion through his words can be heard and felt. You can tell how much pride he has in Thorngrove and it shows 10 fold. I cannot fathom how much time and effort he has put into this place. Down to the finest detail is taken care of and the sheer magnitude of the design is just breathtaking. Honestly, I could write on and on and on about Thorngrove - Ken has built his dream, and his passion is still strong after so many years. It's actually inspiring to hear him talk about the build, the furnishings and the stories behind it all. You will not be disappointed at all by this hidden gem, truly worthy of 10 stars on all fronts. Ken, you have my greatest respect for what you have created here and I encourage any one to take the opportunity to spend a night at Thorngrove. We will 110% be back, for many, many years to come. A truly magical birthday. Regards, Brad & Cristy

Words cannot describe this place. Pictures do this place no justice. If you are looking at the picture and saying wow, wait until you see it in person. I have travelled to a lot of places around the world and it’s crazy that something this beautiful is in SA’s backyard. As soon as we got here, we were greeted by Kenneth who showed us around and explained the story about this amazing place. We had a stunning dinner and are looking forward to breakfast in the morning! I just wanted to say thanks again Kenneth, this place is definitely breathtaking. Looking forward to staying here again next time we are in SA.

One of the most admiring hotels I have stayed in. Thorngrove manor made my wedding day special and memorable. It was such a unique experience leaving you amazed everywhere you look. The Castle was impressive and captivating all the way from the Castle, the Gardens to the rooms. The rooms were unique with a piece of history filled with antiques. You find yourself admiring all the furniture and artwork bringing you back in time. The host made us feel warmly welcomed from arrival and departure. The food was delicious and loved the selection. If you’re looking for a luxury romantic private stay, where you feel like a King and Queen, I highly recommend Thorngrove manor as it’s like nothing in South Australia. You will not be disappointed other than having to leave the place. I felt privileged and could have easily stayed longer. We will defiantly be back. Thanks Nydia and Ken
