We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The bungalow was clean and outfitted enough for us, a family with two teenaged girls, to be comfortable. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, microwave, kettle and toaster - and there is a washing machine as well. It’s in a great location at the top of the Main Street and with a grocery store, bakery, pharmacy and restaurant within a few metres of the driveway. We typically made our own breakfast and lunch and ate out for dinner. All of Hanga Roa is easily within walking distance. Our host, Hector was very friendly and helpful and even helped us rent a car which was worth it for quick trips to the beach across the island. (His very friendly black cat is worth a mention ;-) as he loves attention). There are a ton of roosters in Hanga Roa who do not care what time it is so we recommend earplugs for any light sleepers. Don’t be surprised if you are visited by wandering horses as well - though they aren’t noisy like the roosters. It’s very peaceful and relaxing here and the stars are exceptional at night. …
While outside looks are deceiving, inside was very nice and spacious. Hugo met me on arrival and was very friendly and helpful and ensured i had all my paperwork for my day trips. Watchout for the front door... it locks when closed so always have the key with you when you are outside. It does have a balcony but no railing but the open door allows a nice breeze through. It's a bit of a walk to the main part of town (about 7-10mins walk) but it does have a shop and restaurant across the road. It's also a quieter part of town so that's a plus.
The external stairs to our room above shops had no handrail with only a carpenters saw stool to stop you stepping into the void. The external balcony also had no handrail. We assume the building work is yet to be finished. The shower was very tiny, hard to move with bumping a top and the floor waste in the shower had no grid - if something valuable, like a ring, fell into it the loss would be forever. The owner/caretaker (?) was hard to find, could be considered a character. On the plus side, it is just opposite a grocery shop and its not far into town. The appliances in the kitchen were up to date and clean.
Just across from an excellent place to get beer, wine, snacks almost anything. No air conditioning- none needed even in summer - cool breeze all time. Has oven, fridge, microwave and friendly enviroment.
The hotel owner gave detailed explanation on what to eat, where to go and how to go in the island. We were able to rent his Suzuki 4W to travel on our own, convenient. Pros: 1) located near to the airport, just 2 minutes ride 2) friendly host 3) the room is well-equipped, suitable for families who want to cook on their own Cons: 1) cleanliness not good enough, found dead cockroach on corridor 2) no hot water supply on the first day 3) beware and return the car on time otherwise the owner will try to charge you one more day
