#1 of 20 hotels in Hanga Roa
Travellers' Choice
The Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa, the newest hotel property on Easter Island located just a 5-minute walk from the island's only town, Hanga Roa. It features 75 elegant and smartly decorated rooms, the Poerava and Kaloa restaurants, the deluxe Manavai Spa, an outdoor swimming pool and its Vaikoa bar, a reading room and excursion center, a 60-person auditorium, and a 300-person conference space for cultural seminars, dance and music presentations or corporate meetings. The Hangaroa sits high on a dramatic, steep-sloped cliff facing the Pacific Ocean, and all guestrooms boast panoramic windows and terraces with sea views. The Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa offers "B&B" rates for lodging and breakfast only, and "Premium" packages that include lodging, excursions and all meals and beverages. Each detail of the hotel's architectural design and functionality is cutting edge. Inspired by the Orongo ceremonial village and site of the island's Bird Man ritual, all of the walls are curved and topped with grass roofs. Theyfavor natural light and landscaping of local flora and fauna that allow the hotel to artfully blend into its natural environment.

I had the chance to spend one week in this superb hotel in the magic island of Hangaroa. An all-inclusive upscale experience with honest price and for many atributes a one-of-a-kind option. From spacious rooms to gourmet à la carte meals served to impress the taste and the eyes. The staff was super friendly and even tricycle rentals, the best way to circundate and truly know the island were included in the full board package. I strongly recomend.

Worst experience I've had with a hotel. I chose it for so called security purposes because I was travelling alone to see the Easter Island Tapati Festival last February 2020 and thought it would be a safe option. Wrong. All rooms and their doors are exposed to the outside and during the dark it's scary. If you dare to walk outside, you can imagine it as a deserted scene in a horror movie where u are running for your life. I came back late on the last day of the festival, even before it ended, drove back to the hotel, and the iron gates were completely locked up!!! There I was, outside the hotel, in a blackened street alone at almost midnight, scared to tears that I could get attacked in the dark, honking the car hysterically hoping for someone to come open the gate, but it was too far from the front entrance with CLOSED DOORS, no security whatsoever, no staff, completely deserted, didn't even see any cameras. In the hour I was waiting outside (hoping I wouldn't run out of gas and desperately hoping the car lights wouldn't die out), I ATTEMPTED TO CLIMB THE IRON GATE that was ribcage high, but as I was lifting myself up, I looked down at the spiked tips of the bars and was afraid that if I slipped, I might impale myself on the gate, making the total horror show complete. I'm from New York and used to staying at Ritz Carltons, I'm due to stay at the Burj Al Arab, etc... and here I found myself trying to climb a locked gate at a so called 5 Star Hotel (consider yourself Trapped in there if something happens in the compound in the middle of the night. sitting ducks with no security guards whatsoever. If someone wanted to jump that fence and rob every room, beware. In my opinion, you would be totally on your own). Regarding the rooms, they were a good size, but something was wrong with the central a/c (or maybe it's always like that), they had a standup a/c box in the middle of the room with a hose going outside thru a section cut from the sliding door to the porch. I killed a huge roach/water bug that crawled in from the front door, and the tub was filthy, so I never used it. Much of the decor is stone, even in the shower, so it might not be the cleaners, but it just never felt clean enough, in general. The morning buffet is good though, but not worth my agony. I heard The Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa was just bought out by the Nayara group, so hopefully they do something about these serious issues.. fingers crossed for your sake.

I didn't stay at this property but came here for a massage so the review is solely on the spa service and as a non-staying guest. I called to enquire and it was difficult to communicate with the spa staff over the phone as she does not speak much English and I speak no Espanol but somehow managed to make a booking. They seem quite busy and I couldn't get a longer massage so best to book a day early. I went for a 50-minute deep tissue massage which was 60,000 pesos (about USD72). The spa room is nice and spacious, very clean and also ensuite so comes with a shower. The masseur is top notch, she found my tired knots and sore areas and worked on them with enough strength. The massage was outstanding and worth every penny, felt very relaxed afterwards. Separately, I wanted to asked at the reception whether I can have dinner there, the reception staff looked bewildered and kept shaking his head, it's fine if the restaurant is not opened to outsiders, he could just explain, there's no need for such a reaction.

This is a beautiful resort. Very conveniently located with excellent service and great food. We booked an all inclusive package with private tours and couldn’t be happier with that decision. It is rare to check out of a resort with a zero balance. Our tour leader Tiko was very knowledgeable and kept us ahead of all of the tour groups and took us to some places the tours just can’t get to. He even arranged for a cliff side picnic to watch the moon rise while he played his guitar and sang for us. The guest service manager Josefina also left us champagne and chocolates in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Bikes were available to ride into town and you could walk to the end of the street and sit on one of the beaches at the cliff to watch sunset over the ocean in the evening. Meals were delicious and wine was included. The restaurant for dinner was excellent.

We spent 4 days 3 nights here. The rooms are simplistic but in keeping with the area. The bathroom area was large with a bath in the room and a separate shower area. All in granite. Even the bed base was granite (mind your toes!) Natural wooden columns really set the room up. The restaurant was good and the location excellent. My only criticism was although we had a ocean view, we had to go a long way round to get to the sea area. The grounds are fiercely fenced off. It's a shame that there aren't one or two breaks.
