Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Perfect location for bird watching. Thoughtful hosts. Close to both Maleny and Montville. A unique experience. The continental breakfast was incredible! We were not expecting such a decadent breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Buttercup room. Thank you for an amazing experience.

We spent a weekend at the Spotted Chook (2 nights) and only have great things to say about the whole experience! Jane and Leeroy are fantastic hosts, very friendly and caring. We stayed in the Snowpea suite, which was just lovely and perfect for us. The atmosphere at the Spotted Chook is not something you find everywhere, there is something special about it and it is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

Our time in Montville was dominated by rain but we were fortunate to be staying in the Amelies room which had a beautiful outlook. We also enjoyed the breakfasts provided, as well as the one night we were able to dine in.

My beautiful wife and I visited this establishment for a few days. The location and room was peaceful... Just seemed to be something missing. The host was ok, but seemed to be more interested in what he owned, rather than looking after his paying guests. The restaurant was closed for dinners except Saturday which is ok, but they should say so on there website. My wife and I probably won't bother coming back again as the experience was ok but not great. You could probably do better with a bit more research. The breakfast was pretty boring after a couple of days although adequate.

Our 3rd or 4th trip over the years and the Spotted Chook always exceeds our expectations! Leeroy and Jane are the most accommodating and friendly hosts, ensuring every detail is catered for. The rooms are spotless and have a beautiful laid back French cottage character to them and the bird life on the property quickly help you forget the hustle bustle of suburban/city life. Thank you again! xox

Thanks so much for your review, its always great to have our guests return and enjoy their stay with us. So glad you got to enjoy the bird life that is so vibrant here and that the French flavour hits the spot. We love creating a relaxing escape and we will pass on your compliments to our hard working staff who ensure that the rooms are spotlessly clean in these challenging times.

What a delight this place is! The rooms are spacious and sumptuously decorated in a French style. The views out over the valley are magnificent even in the rain. The breakfast is spectacular with homemade muesli, eggs from very happy hens in the field below, and gorgeous little cakes fresh from Jane’s oven. The whole thing is presided over by Leeroy and Jane who are wonderful hosts. I want to live here!

The Spotted Chook is a fabulous place to stay. It is full of rustic charm, is spacious and well appointed. The host is very friendly, always up for a chat, and helpful in every possible way. We enjoyed the lovely walk through their very expansive property and had a delightful afternoon at the local Flame Hill winery. Montville is a superb mountain village to spend a lazy afternoon, we had lunch and dinner in town and enjoyed the local micro-brewery beer ... Awesome! We watched the paragliders gracefully flying off Gerrard's lookout and walked the bush trails in Mary Cairncross Forest Park. The breakfasts at The Spotted Chook were generous, home cooked and came with an excellent coffee to boot! Overall a very relaxing, fulfilling and unique experience! The Spotted Chook: Highly recommended!

The Spotted Chook is without doubt the best place to stay in Montville. We first discovered The Chook 12 years ago when we were scouting venues for our wedding. We were married there the same year and have been back many times for anniversaries and getaways. Most recently we had our Christmas break with our 8 year old son. The atmosphere is always so warm and friendly it’s more like staying with family than at a B and B. Leeroy and Jane are the perfect hosts and will go out of their way to make your stay fantastic. The rooms are colour themed and many have great views. All are air-conditioned and some have wood burning stoves just perfect for a winter getaway. The Snowpea room is our favourite as it opens out onto the garden and the gazebo where we were married. There’s nothing as relaxing as sitting out on the verandah in the afternoon listening to the birds and watching the chooks scratching around in the garden. At breakfast you can sit and look out at the ever changing scenery while enjoying the fabulous selection of freshly cooked savouries and muffins or a hot breakfast for a small extra cost. To top it all off the Chook is located close to most of the major attractions of the area, only a short drive from Maleny and a 30 minute drive to Maroochydore if you fancy a swim. I think it speaks volumes for a place when the minute you leave you are already checking your calendar to see when you can book in again. Thanks Leeroy and Jane for another awesome stay. We’ll be back!

Well that is some review. We feel very touched to have such lovely people stay here at the chook. Always lovely to see couples happy and their children being such a big part of their lives. Also a big thank you again for breaking the drought with nearly 60mls when you were here. AWESOME. Look forward to watching more Dr Who now that you have rekindled the flame. We will also need to watch Bluey with the smaller generation. Look after yourselves and have a wonderful 2020. A bientot Leeroy and Jane
