Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great directions and clear communication prior to stay. Friendly staff. Very clean and tidy. Large amount of space. Stunning views. Very very quiet at night and so very peaceful. Beautiful place to get away.

NEVER AGAIN WILL WE STAY HERE ! One of the worst experiences we have had in Montville! It was our 25th wedding anniversary so we wanted it to be a quiet romantic weekend away . It was far from it !!!!! Firstly , no mention ANYWHERE about the 5 flights of stairs from the carpark to the room , No lift at all ! Too bad if you are not good with stairs !!! The room was old and dated, the mattress was appalling , The shower was mouldy . The carpet was dirty and dated . The spa … YUCK!!! The airconditioning desperately needs a deep clean - it stunk , as did the weird second “room” with only a cupboard and a laundry tub - ???? We have NO idea how it passed council inspections as the walls are paper thin - we could hear EVERYTHING the people in the next room were doing and saying - but scarily that also means there is NO fire rating between the units !!!! There is no additional ventilation in the bathroom - no windows - no exhaust fan ! Also illegal I think 🤔… And to top it all off , when we were leaving we were asked how was our stay - deceivingly marketed as luxurious and private 😱 The mangers wife proceeded to abuse us and tell us we were imagining it !!!! Don’t waste your money - at $300 a night there are much much better options !!!!

For $300 a night the only thing that made it worth it was the view. The first thing I noticed as I walked in is that the cleaners didn't wipe the kitchen bench. There were crumbs and drink marks all over it. The actual apartment is huge but very dated, a bit smelly and has no soul. The view is incredible but was spoiled by a chainsmoker on the balcony/apartment next door. The guy didn't stop fagging from 6am onward. It meant I had to keep the doors shut the whole time I was there. NO INTERNET? I wasn't aware of that and had to use my phone as a hotspot the whole time. You are right above The Edge restaurant, I don't know whether it was exceptionally noisy because it was easter , but you will hear the noise of conversations and plates/drinks clinking all lunch time. The stairs coming up to the apartment from the road is difficult to drag luggage up. Especially if you are bringing it up from the underground carpark which is another couple of flights of stairs. The underground carpark where I was told to keep my car - my car was vandalised twice. The window wipers were put up and a note put on my car reading 'This is NOT a carpark'. It did not feel safe to leave my car under there. I wouldn't recommend nor stay again. For $300 a night they could renovate each apartment one by one with nicer furnishings and give it a more homely feel. Also ban the smoking - YUCK!

Great location , spacious, self contained apartments with fantastic views right on top of The Edge restaurant and some great little shops. But it could do with a bit of "sprucing up" and modernising. Please note that I would definitely stay again. The unit was very clean and larger than expected. Most of the issues are cosmetic (coat of paint, timber furniture on verandah needs attention, no internet, etc.) However, the AC was noisy, especially if the fan was set to high!

I recently spent three days with friends in these apartments. The view was magnificent from our deck and the location was excellent. However, I would not recommend them and especially for people with mobility problems. There are a lot of steps to ground level from the car park which is under the building and then a lot of steps up to the unit. However, our biggest problem was the very slippery tiles in the bathroom. There was no exhaust fan so condensation made the whole floor area very dangerous and to overcome this problem we had to place towels on the floor. The air conditioner was not functioning properly and a large glass door had no warning decals on it. Consequently one of our group walked into it but fortunately was not injured. We were very disappointed and would neither stay here again or recommend these apartments. There was no information provided and no contact number for management or emergencies. Overall, a very disappointing visit!

I have been told that many, many travelers rely on hotel's internet for their connection, so disappointed that none available at Mayfield. As older travelers, stairs are a problem and there were about 20 to get to our unit. OK for getting an overnight bag to the room, but we had been away for a week, so we had suitcases. The unit was HUGE, clean, well maintained, the lounge was comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. I think we could have held a party for 50 on the balcony and everyone would have enjoyed the view - really spectacular - that is what you pay for. It was lovely to sit inside on a cold afternoon and look out from the large windows and watch the lights come on from the towns down below. Mayfield is conveniently located in Montville - a positive as parking is so difficult and undercover parking is available if you want another set of stairs to climb. Not suitable for us to stay again, but would recommend for those who don't mind stairs, the views are worth it.

Postitives- The apartments themselves are spacious, the views are spectacular, large balcony, central location, large bathrooms. Improvements- reception was confusing to locate, parking isn't secure so anyone can park there (there was often no underground so including it as a feature is a bit cheeky), no elevator, no wifi, no fan in room, bed was uncomfortable, jets weren't cleaned well in the spa bath. Also there was no room service for the weekend but nothing else offered in exchange i.e a small discount or a coffee voucher. Im sorry but when you charge this much you can't be just saying there's no room service. Safety issue - the tiles in the bathroom and the corridors are dangerously slippy and bath mats should be placed down as the shower water goes everywhere. I almost slipped at 35 weeks pregnant in the bathroom and could have fallen on the stairs also. Nice place to stay but definitely not worth $320 a night at all. Need some major upgrades and additional features, luxuries and attention to detail to be charging these rates.

The location is very good but it is an old badly maintained building. The apartment is also badly maintained and in need of a total renovation. It had a stale smell as we walked in and the floor and window ledges were not cleaned. The whole apartment has not been Covid disinfected!!! We are living in a pandemic aren't we? Not enough hot water after two showers, the sink did not drain, the lighting is old neon lighting. Access with bags is difficult through a narrow staircase. The carparking is dusty and full of leaves hasn't been cleaned in a long time. No Wifi, old not clean wooden balcony furniture and the mattress is old and soft. Generally there is a problem with the management. Now I will let you be the judge if you think A$228 is reasonable???!!!

We stayed in Unit 7. Positives were that it was a roomy 1 bedroom with spectacular eastern view. Downsides were tired furniture, (lack of) cleanliness, stench from laundry, hearing next door tv & talking on other side of bedroom wall

From the garage (which is open 24hrs to the public) a walk up of 36 steps carrying our bags to a tired, sad looking apartment. Broken furniture on a grubby unpainted concrete patio. Uninspiring rooms, I have been in cheap motels with more character. Bare minimum facilities; no wi-fi, no tissues, no plastic bags in the kitchen waste bin, 2 light bulbs not working, no clock, no radio, one TV speaker not working properly, there is ore but enough said. The location is terrific, it could and should be better.
