My wife and I absolutely loved the concept of the "Albergo Difuso" and had a wonderful stay at Il Borgo. The apartments are quaint and the architecture is truly unique. We had an awesome view of the rugged countryside and my parents stayed just a few meters down the lane and had a fantastic view as well. Roxane went out of her way to make us comfortable and gave great recommendations for things to do in the local area, especially the hot springs. Her knowledge of the local food scene is awesome and she is passionate about the local farms and foods. Definitely worth the trip off the beaten path.

Great room in quiet area of a fascinating town. Roxanna was incredibly helpful and accommodating with lots of tips for things to do and directions. Close to the lovely hot springs at Saturnia and other history-steeped villages in the area.

We stayed here for 5 nights over the Christmas week-end and had a great experience. Roxana is a wealth of knowledge about the area and gave us several excellent ideas for day trips. She also knew what would and wouldn't be open for the holidays so we could plan accordingly. We stayed in Borgo 2 which has rustic charm in keeping many original details but providing top level comfort. It was similar to an apartment rental but with daily service. Very quiet. The people in the village are friendly and we ate well at the local restaurants and had good service at the bar. Highly recommended for the hotel itself and its location to other sites in the area.

We recently spent 4 days at Il Borgo di Sempronio. It is an 'Albergo Difuso' which means there is a central reception area and the various rooms are located around the town. The accommodation was lovely, we stayed in the Sofia apartment which is very well appointed, warm and comfortable. The breakfasts were lovely too, locally sourced products where possible. Try the local ricotta and honey - its unbelievably good! The town itself is very small and beautiful and has breathtaking views over the Maremma countryside. It is on a winding country road which can be a challenge for UK/Australian drivers who aren't used to driving on the right - but it is worth the drive. Its a great spot for seeing some of the other towns; we did some of the walks from Sovana (Le Vie Cave) which was well worth the trip, and Pitigliano is magnificent. We also went to the springs at Saturnia - Roxanne supplied us with robes for the springs which was lovely as you do need to supply your own towel and/or robe. Unforgettable and unmissable! We only had two problems. Firstly there was there was no wifi in our room (only in reception), which isn't clear on their website, and was essential for my husband to stay in touch with our office back in Australia. This meant a few late nights for him sitting on the doorstep of reception after it had closed using the wifi from there to link up with the Australian time zone. The second problem we had is there are only a couple of restaurants open for dinner and they close on certain days, it would be nice to know in advance which nights they are closed, otherwise you need to drive back out again another 20-30 minutes to the next town to find a restaurant open. There is a very small supermarket in the town but you must remember to go there before it closes. These 'problems' wouldn't necessarily be a problem for everyone. I highly recommend Il Borgo di Sempronio - particularly if you're after a quiet slice of country life. And I'd definitely go there again.

I stayed at the Il Borgo right after driving in from Pisa - while sightseeing around Semproniano, my car had unfortunately blew a tyre in the darkness of the Italian winter. I was still a good half an hour's drive from the Il Borgo - on calling Roxana, she literally leapt to our rescue and the very kind boss came driving over in his truck to offer us assistance. Throughout the time we were waiting for the towtruck to assist us, Roxana continue to call to ensure everything went well and that we were safe. Once we got back to the Il Borgo, Roxana did everything within her ability to contact Hertz Italia and to arrange our onwards transport since we were now left stranded without our rental car. It was New Year's Eve and most taxi businesses were closed - she made the effort to call 10 taxis to come ferry us onwards to the next car rental point. This is truly service straight from the heart, that will draw us back to Tuscany despite the horrifying car rental experience with Hertz Italia. The daily hearty breakfast consisted of the freshly prepared ricotta cheese, heavenly farm-fresh eggs in olive oil and plenty of lovingly made cheese-and-toast. If you wish to use the nearby Saturnia hotsprings, a cutesy bag with bathrobes and warm towels will be thoughtfully prepared for you prior to your trip. The room itself was cosy and inviting - for the level of service, hospitality and food, this is undoubtedly Tuscany's warmest welcome even on a cold wintry day !
