The open house was a lovely and comfortable place to stay.

The beds are comfortable, fitted with an electric blanket if you need extra warmth, TV and DVD player wall mounted, a nice bathroom and great pressure in the shower.

Great breakfast cooked by the host Jane! It was great to meet the other guests staying also.

Me and my friend were due to be here tomorrow but The B&B was really flexible in bringing it forward a day after being let down at some questionable ‘accommodation’ on the south of the island.

When we arrived we were met with a lovely welcome from Jane, she’s settled us into the rooms, helped us out with some island info for the night and showed us where the launderette was.

The rooms are clean, cosy and bright. The shower is incredible just what we needed after a day on the quad bikes.

We’re looking forward to bacon and eggs for breakfast in the morning.

Thank you, from Ben and Tim

As we booked the http://www.wildernesstours.com.au/kangaroo-island-nature-4wd-tours.htm, we were very disappointed by the level of the b & b we stayed in that not only did not match the level of services sold by the organizer and accordingly the price paid, but moreover was dirty and unsanitary. By the way, the breakfast was clearly below the minimum required, and did not even reach the level of a low cost hotel : no homemade bread, nothing freshly baked, no fresh fruits, no yoghurt or juices, no eggs cooked, just toast and cereal, that's it.

Nothing was made to let us feel like special houseguest.

If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay, we would like to strongly recommend you : The Seascape Lodge.

Response from openhouse1026952, Owner at The Open House B&B
Responded 23 May 2011
Dear VGGZ, Thank you for your comments. I was very disappointed in your review as I have always tried to cater to all of my guests needs and offer my sincere apologies for your disappointment. The Open House B&B has had the same cleaner since 1994 and she has always taken great care in the cleanliness of the B&B. As for the breakfast, I have always served a continental using as many Kangaroo Island products as possible. Juice is always served, along with fruit fresh and home made preserved fruit, home made jams, KI Honey, KI Sheeps milk yoghurt, vegemite and nutella spreads along with a variety of small cheeses. With the toast I use KI Local bakery breads, raisin toast with muffins or crumpets. Eggs and bacon can be ordered on request which is clearly stated in the Open House information books in each of the rooms. As you are aware my little property is placed in the budget categary and I feel that possible you may have been happier at a higher rated accommodation house. You mentioned the Seascape Lodge, which is lovely, but is placed in the luxury end of the market. KI Wilderness Tours endeavours to advise and guide clients of what property may suite them best but cannot always do so if a certain budget is being asked for. So a decision may be made on price or suitability of standard and style of the accommodation house. That decision in the end I believe would have come down to you? I am sure they would have been more that happy to advise a different property if your budget had allowed. I have received great feedbak from clients who have loved the small intimate atmosphere that I have been able to provide. I also have loved the opportunity to meet travellers from all over the globe and be able to hear their stories while dining together over dinner. I am a 5th generation Islander and enjoy the opportunity to share the many experiences and stories I have also to share. Again I aplogise for not meeting your requirements on this occasion and would have loved to have known of your concerns during your stay so that if possible I had a chance to discuss them directly with you.

We just spent two nights at the Open House and were sad to leave! Jane, the owner, is an amazing hostess! Our room was very comfortable for the two of us and we even had a second small bedroom attached that we used for our luggage (presumably it was for children). The living room was very comfortable if we were to ever not want to be in our bedroom as well. Jane provided a great breakfast with bacon and poached eggs with spinach and tomatoes, in addition to various cereals, fruit and toast with a ton of toppings. She even got up early and got us breakfast an hour earlier than she normally started to serve as we had an early ferry. She is a wealth of information on the area and can give you lots of tips on where to go.

The town is tiny with really only one choice for dinner (the hotel) but the food was good and reasonably priced there.

My Husband booked this B&B mostly based on location. It turns out he made a very wise choice! Given that we only had 2 days to explore all that a Kangaroo Island had to offer the location of this accomodation meant that we could maximize the time we had. KI (as the locals call it) is quite big and the attractions are spread right across the Island so this centrally located base (aptly named Open House) was perfect. It is not a luxurious place and the township itself is not very picturesque but it does have a great pub and great people!
Jane is the perfect host and (having lived on KI all of her life) she gave us a wonderful local perspective along with the best cooked breakfast ever along with all of the yummy extras.

We had a great stay, it is in a great spot Central to all the main attractions of the island (it is a big place!) very comfortable and a lovely cosy room with em suite and TV.

The host cooks nice food and has excellent advice on where to go and what to do.

It's nice to meet other guests staying here too.

Really warm welcome !
The room was very clean and cosy !
We felt like at her mum's place.
The "egg boat" breakfast was amazing !

If you are visiting Kangaroo Island, it's definitely a place to stay.

Thanks Jane for your advises and your warm welcome
