Had always wanted to visit this iconic Australian outback town and flew into Birdsville Airport for an overnight stay at the Birdsville Motel.

A 100 metre walk across from the airport terminal and you checkin at the hotel reception.

The Birdsville Motel is part of the Birdsville Hotel complex and the room as their website suggests have been updated and was clean, comfortable and air conditioned.

The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating and more than happy to provide information on the area if required.

The hotel serves great meals and during my stay I enjoyed a steak, mash and vegetables.

Breakfast was not currently available at the motel but an alternative option was available a short walk down the road at the Birdsville Roadhouse outdoor cafe.

The Birdsville Bakery was also currently closed but is due to re-open in 2021.

I was able to walk to most places of interest around Birdsville after obtaining a map and some advice from Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre.

The walk out to the Birdsville Racetrack was a 8km flat return walk, fortunately only 27 celsius but make sure you have a hat ,sunscreen and water bottle and a snack and refill at the potable water taps available along the roadside and walk in the cooler parts of the day.

If you want to experience a small taste of the Australian Outback this town is definitely worth visiting.

Our second visit and stay at the Birdsville Hotel, it’s a great iconic pub with accommodation that should be on your bucket list.
The staff here are always friendly, helpful and do all they can to assist in your stay.
A few noticeable improvements in the rooms this time, very comfy new beds, pillows, fluffy thick towels.
The rooms are spacious, clean, split system a/c all your amenities coffee, tea, milk etc with daily servicing.
The food in the restaurant/bar is as good as ever, it’s not 5 star but good well put together pub food, with a menu to suit most palates.
Remember you are in the outback and everything becomes much harder to supply/ staffing/service the hotel does an amazing job given the difficulties they must face.
It’s great to see the new owners have not made any major changes are it is said will continue to operate under the same guise, only one minor suggestion prints on the wall of local scenery would be a great addition to the rooms.

A unique outback icon in the middle of Australia. I travelled here with Australian Air Safaris the perfect way to visit with those who have little time to travel to reach this great place. A welcome drink in the bar involves seeing the history of the pub and the tributes to special people who have played a key in the town and hotel.
We preordered our roast dinner - delicious after travelling to big red to see the sunset.
My room was lovely clean, quiet and warm when the temperature drops at night
I was impressed with the town and the way the hotel staff ensured the place was neat and tidy sweeping the tiny stones around the paths back into place early in the morning before customers started arriving
The town is a true contender for a Tidy Town Award

Four of us visiting at a nearby cattle station decided to spend Friday night at Birdsville, have a few drinks and a meal at the Birdsville Hotel.
We overlooked the fact that the tap beer was $9 a glass, the chicken schnitzel was processed meat shaped into a chicken breast and the 'flathead from Adelaide' was definitely not flathead.
What we couldn't work out was how they justified the $30 workshirts with the Birdsville Hotel emblem embroidered above the pocket which sold for the pricely sum of $75 and the mens toilets reeked of urine enough to make your eyes burn and 3 of the 4 tap handles were missing.
This is supposed to be a famous pub people from overseas and all over Australia come to visit, you think they could afford a cleaner to give the toilets a scrub with some of the profits from the workshirts.
On a better note the staff were all friendly, professional and the service was good.

We spent 3 nights in a 2 bedroom unit. The place was very clean and comfortable. Beds were good, as was the bathroom. There were fans as well as a/c in the bedrooms and living room. No wardrobe hanging space in either bedroom though there was a suitcase stand which was useful. Water pressure was good in the bathroom. The kitchenette had a kettle, microwave, small fridge and toaster. There was tea, coffee and milk provided as well as paper cups. It would have been useful to have perhaps basic cutlery, mugs and plates.
We had a fantastic stay and would love to go back again. Staff were lovely and made us welcome. Highly recommended.

The Birdsville Hotel is a very welcome sight after a long drive up the Birdsville Track from Adelaide. Birdsville as a town was far cleaner, tidier and organized than I expected and the same goes for the hotel itself. As well as having its own unique character the hotel and surrounds are immaculate and the room had all the amenities you'd expect to see in a five star hotel. COVID 19 restrictions are being adhered to staff are friendly and helpful and delicious meals are available. if it's on your bucket list just do it.

What a great pub and very friendly staff. The new owners have updated rooms with new beds and linen and I was very impressed. Only planned to stay one night but booked an extra night. Very quiet spacious rooms and the pub food is worth noting with a good selection available, and the breakfast wrap is a thumbs up. What I have loved most is the friendly staff and pub atmosphere especially as a solo chic travelling thanks guys you made me feel so welcome - I will be back 👍👍👍👍 get out here to this iconic pub and enjoy local hospitality (and Big Red😂)

Welcoming iconic historic pub with friendly staff. Motel room was simple, modern and clean with a very comfortable bed. Toaster, kettle, microwave and refrigerator supplied but you need to have your own plates & cutlery etc.. as only disposable cups are supplied. Basic toiletries supplied. Very good mobile phone service (for Telstra phones). Reasonable room rates considering where you are in Australia. Lovely meals in the dining room with great friendly service. Drinks in the bar is a must and there is so much history to see & read on the walls of the pub. A lovely "home away from home" to relax and recharge after desert travel.

We stayed in a motel room out the back of the pub for one night. The room (one of about thirty) was very good. It had a queen and a single bed, ceiling fan, air conditioning, microwave and toaster. It was a good size, quiet and comfortable.

The pub itself is an icon serving cold beer and good food. The staff were friendly and efficient. We only saw one other couple that were staying there and it was generally very quiet. We think this contributed to the lack of atmosphere, that was present in the pubs we stayed at on our way to Birdsville. It would probably be very different in peak tourist season.

Most expensive beer in QLD, for no special reason. At a hotel an hour away it’s $5.00 a beer.
Meals are extremely underwhelming and significantly over priced.
While I don’t have an issue with the cost my comment is the minimalist of a meal That needs a $9.00 plate of chips. Are you kidding.....
Staff were typically pleasant

looking for accommodation from 3/9 - 7/9
Answer from lou664

You will have to ask the Birdsville Staff if they have any vacancies for those dates but looking at them I am wondering if that is going to be the weekend of the Birdsville races in which case no you wont get accommodation at the hotel. That is when Birdsville grows from a population of around 250 to 7000!! If you have camping or caravanning equipment do go and experience this fantastic happening on the edge of the desert!!! If you would rather go when it is a little more quiet then the hotel is well worth a visit - the accommodation is excellent as are the staff and the meals. And yes it is well worth the journey - okay it is a long way but once there it is a great experience.
