A 100 metre walk across from the airport terminal and you checkin at the hotel reception.
The Birdsville Motel is part of the Birdsville Hotel complex and the room as their website suggests have been updated and was clean, comfortable and air conditioned.
The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating and more than happy to provide information on the area if required.
The hotel serves great meals and during my stay I enjoyed a steak, mash and vegetables.
Breakfast was not currently available at the motel but an alternative option was available a short walk down the road at the Birdsville Roadhouse outdoor cafe.
The Birdsville Bakery was also currently closed but is due to re-open in 2021.
I was able to walk to most places of interest around Birdsville after obtaining a map and some advice from Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre.
The walk out to the Birdsville Racetrack was a 8km flat return walk, fortunately only 27 celsius but make sure you have a hat ,sunscreen and water bottle and a snack and refill at the potable water taps available along the roadside and walk in the cooler parts of the day.
If you want to experience a small taste of the Australian Outback this town is definitely worth visiting.
The staff here are always friendly, helpful and do all they can to assist in your stay.
A few noticeable improvements in the rooms this time, very comfy new beds, pillows, fluffy thick towels.
The rooms are spacious, clean, split system a/c all your amenities coffee, tea, milk etc with daily servicing.
The food in the restaurant/bar is as good as ever, it’s not 5 star but good well put together pub food, with a menu to suit most palates.
Remember you are in the outback and everything becomes much harder to supply/ staffing/service the hotel does an amazing job given the difficulties they must face.
It’s great to see the new owners have not made any major changes are it is said will continue to operate under the same guise, only one minor suggestion prints on the wall of local scenery would be a great addition to the rooms.
We preordered our roast dinner - delicious after travelling to big red to see the sunset.
My room was lovely clean, quiet and warm when the temperature drops at night
I was impressed with the town and the way the hotel staff ensured the place was neat and tidy sweeping the tiny stones around the paths back into place early in the morning before customers started arriving
The town is a true contender for a Tidy Town Award
We overlooked the fact that the tap beer was $9 a glass, the chicken schnitzel was processed meat shaped into a chicken breast and the 'flathead from Adelaide' was definitely not flathead.
What we couldn't work out was how they justified the $30 workshirts with the Birdsville Hotel emblem embroidered above the pocket which sold for the pricely sum of $75 and the mens toilets reeked of urine enough to make your eyes burn and 3 of the 4 tap handles were missing.
This is supposed to be a famous pub people from overseas and all over Australia come to visit, you think they could afford a cleaner to give the toilets a scrub with some of the profits from the workshirts.
On a better note the staff were all friendly, professional and the service was good.
We had a fantastic stay and would love to go back again. Staff were lovely and made us welcome. Highly recommended.
The pub itself is an icon serving cold beer and good food. The staff were friendly and efficient. We only saw one other couple that were staying there and it was generally very quiet. We think this contributed to the lack of atmosphere, that was present in the pubs we stayed at on our way to Birdsville. It would probably be very different in peak tourist season.
Meals are extremely underwhelming and significantly over priced.
While I don’t have an issue with the cost my comment is the minimalist of a meal That needs a $9.00 plate of chips. Are you kidding.....
Staff were typically pleasant
