We stayed in the 2 br cottage "Stay." It was a perfect set up for a small family, right in front of a shuttle stop into town. The shuttle came every 15 mins or so. The staff were very helpful. They picked us up at the train station and even helped me find a lost item on the train, which proved a complicated process. We were very satisfied with the value over a hotel.

A couple minor complaints: there was a payphone in the cottage, even to call the front desk. There were no English instructions on how to use the dryer, phone, etc. They did not have enough wifi's to go around, they were all rented out.

I would gladly stay here again, we loved it.

Dear Dawgfan22 Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to write the review. It is our pleasure to hear that you enjoyed stay. Our apologies that there is no English instrunstion for dryers, phone, etc. We will try to look into all our properties and provide English instruction for electric appliances which is written in Japanese. Some of our properties have no Wifi connection. You can rent Wifi router with extra fee at our Management Centre but numbers are very limited. Now we suggest booking in advance or getting one at the airport. Should you consider staying in Niseko again please let us know we would be more than happy to provide an upgrade to an Wifi-connected property on your next visit. Best Regards

We contacted the Izumikyo Rental Cottages office for a reservation via their website, and they assigned us to a cute, 4-person log cabin called Rosti (4 twin beds). When we made the reservation, they asked us to give them advance notice of when we were arriving a the train station so they could pick us up, but we failed to do this, so we contacted them when we arrived at the train station. The staff picked us up in just 20 minutes. They were very nice and helpful. There were only 2 of us, and so we only paid for 2 beds in our 4-person cabin. The cabin was adorable, and there was plenty of room for the 2 of us (4 would have been cramped, but Japanese hotels/lodgings are usually much smaller compared to American standards). There was a clothes washer in the cabin, but no dryer, so we hung our clothes on the 8 hangers that are provided in the cabin near the heater, so the clothes dried pretty quickly. Our cabin was located in Izumikyo II, and was close to the #26 bus stop, and was abou a 3-4 minute walk to the night shuttle. The first night, we took the night shuttle to the Kutchan train station so we could buy groceries for the rest of our stay at the large grocery store nearby. As you're exiting the Kutchan train station, go out to the street and turn left. Walk about 3 minutes, and you'll see the large grocery store. The Seico Mart in town is tiny with a small selection. Buying groceries allowed us to save money from eating out all the time, since the cabin has a kitchen. In Izumikyo, there are a few small cafes/restaurants, and it is a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle. There are several large cottages for larger groups of people. I would definately recommend staying here, especially since we had more space than if we had gotten a hotel, and it was cheaper than any hotels I could find.

This is the second time we stayed at Izumikyo, both times in a 2 bedroom cottage. The first in Whistler Lodge and this time in Yuki Usagi which is just a minute away from the bus stop. Very convenient. The cottages were very well equipped and clean and comfortable.
The staff could speak better English this time. They had been very helpful with our transport arrangements. When we leave we went to Sapporo. They help with arranging the bus schedule and even find out the nearest stop in Sapporo where we should alight and provided us with a map on how we could get to the hotel in Sapporo. This turn out to be really helpful as it was snowing very heavily when we got to Sapporo.

We stayed at at the Mori Cottage and was absolutely amazing. The kitchen was well equipped and the windows were just huge! The trash separation in Japan is very strict so that might be difficult for some people but that was totally fine!

I would highly recommend staying here if you have a car, since it's a little off from the ski resort. But because it's a little off from the main area, it's more quiet and peaceful. They even have a shuttle bus to the ski resort so it shouldn't really be a problem. The closest convince store is about 10 minute walk from the cottages. I wish I could've stayed here longer. This place wasn't enough for one night.

There's a washing machine, big oven and a fridge. For cooking lovers, it was heaven!

The staff are very kind. Thanks so much!

This is a late review. I stayed in December 2015 and partly did not write the review because I was hoping to keep it a secret. Well, ok... good things should be shared. The other reason is I've not come onto TA for a while.

That trip to Hokkaido was really a very last minute decision. By the time I was looking for accommodation in Niseko, most of what I would love to consider was already taken up. Izumikyo still had a small number of cottages left but I was really concerned as 1) location - it was not on the main drag 2) I needed to split stays due to availability 3) what's left were smoking cottages.

I shouldn't have worried. The location was perfectly fine for me and that is one of the most crucial thing for me when deciding on an accommodation. The bus stop for the free Niseko bus was literally steps from the two cottages I stayed at. And the bus journey itself to the main stretch of Hirafu was 3 - 8 minutes (?) depending on the cottage.

The smoking cottages did not smell at all.

I stayed at the Terra cottage for the first part and it was really a fabulous villa. You call that cottage? The double storey place was huge for 2 adults and a child (it can easily accommodate 8 as it states) and had a very beautiful, modern yet comfortable feel to it. There are three big bedrooms, 2 washrooms and a kitchen. The living area is nice to sit down with a group and have some rowdy great time (beer not included). Terra is just two minutes walk from the management centre and a bus stop between them. The popular German bakery is just next to the management centre, so is a soup curry restaurant.

The other cottage we stayed was a lot more smaller as it catered to only a maximum of 4 guests. I remember it was named Yuki Usagi but a quick check on their site shows no more cottage under this name though Kona Yuki looks identical to the one we stayed. Maybe there was a change in name. Anyway this smaller cottage has a totally different charm and I have no complains at all.

Taking into different factors though, especially that Terra is nearer to restaurants and the management house, I will choose to stay at Terra again the next time.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my family in one of the JW Cottage and it was excellent. Very beautiful and well equipped, especially the kitchen. Highly recommended. The only hassle was the trash separation as it requires us to separate trash into 7 different trash bags but hey, at least they're environmentally conscious.

Location wise was good as it was 10 mins walking distance to the main commercial area of Hirafu and there was shuttle bus for the ski resort. Overall, I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in Niseko.

Dear VJTL Thank you very much for staying one of our cottage. We are so happy to read your nice comments. JW cottage is designed as simple, but aim to feel the harmony between Japanese and western style, which not only make you feel as comfortable as your home but also feel Japanese taste in some parts. As you mention, garbage seperation trouble guests. We ask you to separete 7 kinds of materials, according to guideline of the garbage separation established by local goverment. Izumikyo's area is located a little apart from Grand hirafu resort, but hence, quiet and offers good environment. We are looking forward to seeing you again in nearest future. Best Regards Izumikyo Reservation Team

Visited Niseko in Jan 2016 with a group of friends. Izumikyo is a perfect place to stay given we have rented car for transportation otherwise there will be shuttle bus to the ski field/shops. The cottage is spacious but the sound proof need to be improved. You can hear people talking in the living room when trying to sleep. Perfect for groups/family travelling to Niseko.

Had a lovely stay here, the cottage was fully equipped -even vacuum cleaner & washing machine available (prepare your own detergent), bathroom was onsen style. There were also pick up and drop off service from the Kutchan Station provided by the hotel. Shuttle service available to get to the main village, there was a stop right beside our cottage. quite a bit of a walk to the mgmt office.

We 3 of us stayed in one of the cottage for 3 days. It is our second stay in Niseko. Last year, we stayed in a hotel near Hirafu welcome centre which is convenient for a new visitor as skiing trails, ticket office, skiing gear set rental are around and there are convenient shops and restaurants not far away. This time, we choose to stay in a cottage where we can cook ourselves and enjoy our stay in a very spacious house. The small cottage is very clean, warm and the kitchen is well equipped. Station for shuttle bus to Hirafu is just at the street corner 1 min walk away while station for bus to the Kutchan town is just 2 min walk away. The management staff is very nice and contact us for the free pick up service from Kutchan a few days before. There is no shop around so, we visited the Kutchan town and buy all we need to cook for breakfast in the big supermarket there.

We enjoy our stay here very much and sure will choose it again in our next stay.

I've stayed at the cottages twice now and first time was for 8 weeks. Absolutely love the cottages, they are equipped with everything and me and my husband live having our own space and loved waking up in the morning to new snow on the porch.
The staff are amazing and will cater for your every needs and are very helpful.
Also next to management is the best soup curry restaurant and the cake shop has cakes to die for.
It is not right next to the mountain but a free shuttle bus leaves every 20 mins.
We will definitely be back and hopefully bring our friends next time.
