Japan, the alternative winter sports world. Sahoro is a place of refinement, in full Japanese style. The microclimate that reigns over the island of Hokkaido, which has less rainfall and is cooler than the rest of Japan, ensures optimal snow cover for an intense skiing experience. And after all that skiing, revival is guaranteed, with the choice between Ofuro, traditional Japanese hot baths, and Canadian outdoor baths. Indoors you will find a heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and saunas.

Can highly recommend Club Med Sahoro. Very attentive staff, fantastic Kids Club. Our daughter progressed really well in her skiing under Dylan’s kind instruction, the kids loved him and she had great fun. A shout out too for Craig and Ben who are not only good ski instructors but are lively backing dancers in the evening shows too! Mention too for Noel the pizza chef, all the chefs are enthusiastic Ahmet does great omelettes in the morning. AJ and another with similar name AJ? give service with a smile. Xoli is a beautiful singer. All the staff are a great team, too many to individually mention all. Thank you for making our holiday.

Hotel's Favourite
Just completed a perfect holiday family holidays at Club Med Sahoro. The close personal attention from Resort GM Julien Lettraz and his fantastic G.O. team made the holidays one to remember for years to come. Loved the resort precisely because it is not a large resort, which gave this Club Med resort a very cosy family village feel. By the end of the trip we probably met and spoke to every G.O. and even got to know other guest in the village. A small village is the exact description of this resort. The rooms are good sized, especially for Japan, and can easily and comfortably fit 3people, Rooms have been recently renovated. Ample USB power points conveniently located around the room. Appreciate the separate closets so jackets/ ski gear and other clothes can be stored separately. Check in and check out was smooth and quick thanks to Oppa Chris from Korea who brought us to our rooms and Yuzu who helped with Japanese translation with my driver. Also thanks to Mibin and team great work with the Housekeeping. Rooms faultless, everything clean and begs were large. Perfect for families with children. The Mini-Club allows the missus and i to once again be a couple without having to worry about the little ones well-being, the Mini-Club G.Os takes care of all of this for us. The kids loved it too as they met other kids of similar age to participate in the planned activities with. Of course some parent choose to have their children "with them" instead of mini club, but parents should more closely supervise these children when not under the care of Mini Club GO. My kids loved the Mini Club GOs and are still talking about them after the trip. They insist I mention some of the Mini club GOs in this review - Carol, Yuko, Azaria, Sam, Rama. The food was fantastic and we could eat as much as we wanted. We even had Hokkaido Crab legs for dinner on the first night - also all you can eat. Fantastic and friendly restaurant G.Os will even cook the steaks and lambs to the done-ness of your preference. Global fare from Turkish Baklava, to Thai Tomyum to Western Steaks and of course Japanese fares, are all available and Menu changes daily so we're always looking forward to the next meal. Ample choices means there is always something for everyone. Special thanks to Dogan the F&B Manager from Turkey, Chef Cheah from Malaysia, Chef Charles from Congo and many others in the Restaurant team who made me eat so much I gained at least 10 pounds. Tamara from the PR team(I think) was always smiling and always busy seating guest and helping clear the tables. There is a nice cosy bar which is the centre of activity at Club Med. After Skiing, after every meal, after the show in the theater, everyone heads to the bar for drinks and to chat. Free flow of drinks and the Bar team makes super cocktails.. Pro-Tip - ask them to make you their favorite cocktail! Thanks to Adi, Melody, Gita, Dillip and Ray for keeping my family and I well hydrated. Loved the Umeshu cocktails Melody makes.. Crazy signs are also held at the bar and Loki does a great job spinning music that I still know the words to. The resort is rather remote, with Shintoku being about 15mins drive away. There are vending machines for drinks and other consumables around the village. There is also a boutique where ski wear can be purchased if you choose not to rent it. G.O Shakilla really hit it off with my wife and was really knowledgeable about Club Med and happy share great funny stories from her 16 years as a GO. There are daily shows in the theater. We were really amazed with the professional quality of the shows. The dance routines were on point timing wise and performed with energy, while the acrobatics (circus elements) were almost Cirque de Soleil standard albeit understandably with the addition of safety mats to make sure the performers stay safe while they perform really fast paced body contorting actions. The choreography is lead by Oman while the acrobatics was led by Top (we met Top in Club Med Cheating when we visited last year - so nice to see a familiar face). Also shout out to Amanda a new GO in the events team for the fabulous work behind the scene and for sending us off when we departed the resort. The snow was late this year, and Club Med sales team did contact us a few days prior to our visit to inform us of the snow condition and asked if we wanted to change dates to a week later which we did. Thankfully it snowed enough for 2 lifts to open by the time we arrived and a third lifts was opened during out stay. Not an experienced enough skier to comment about the snow quality but there was sufficient snow to keep us all happy sking. Ski equipment can be rented at the resort but we rented our own equipment from outside Club Med at Amuse Rental for half the price. We noticed the ski equipment at Club Med looked shiny and new. We heard that all the ski equipment was refreshed last season. William from Canada and the Ski tech team was really helpful to find me a ski helmet with a Go Pro attachment. The highlight of the holiday has to be the Ski team. Both Ski and snowboarding lessons are available and were conducted twice a day. Skiing or snowboarding lessons are included together in the price of the stay and ski lift passes are included in the package. Ski instructors are qualified instructors and come from all over the world with instructions in multiple languages available. Ski lessons classes size depends on the number of guest that are at the same skiing ability levels. If there are many skiers in the same class they just split the class so that each class is about 8-12 skiers max. Noticed class sizes gets smaller at the higher experience levels with skiing class sizes larger than snowboarding classes. Instructors are rotated, so may not always follow the progression of the student skiers as they improve and move up in class. Most are excellent experienced instructors who are able to spot weaknesses or mistakes and suggest improvements. Always very very supportive and patient with the guest. Crazy energy levels as you can see some instructors repeatedly running back up the slope to help a student. While we were there there were around 35 instructors which we were told is fewer than the usual compliment of instructions, probably due to it being early in the season and potentially stricter Covid immigration challenges. So many fantastic instructors, but our special thanks to Charlie Butterworth, James Formby, Emma, Dodo, Barney, Ben and both Tom (there were quite a few Toms) who were our instructors during our visit. Over the 4days of lessons, we were able to progress from never trying on skies to comfortably doing parallel turns - well most of us.. During meal times those instructors that we didn't have the pleasure of being in their class also were helpful in giving skiing tips and we saw instructors of other classes shouting improvement suggestions at students from another class as these students skied past them down the slopes. Fantastic to see instructors working as a team to help all the student guests regardless of what classes they are from. Probably because almost every skier on the ski slope was a guest from Club Med. Felt like it was a private Club Med ski slope. Our one and only peeve during our visit was that the instructors patiently waited for guest who have signed up that are late to class.. I noticed some guest only start gearing up to ski AFTER the lessons were supposed to have started - this results in everyone else who was on time waiting for these guest to arrive so that lessons can start. Additionally, some guest insist on joining a higher level class when they are clearly not at the same level, while some instructors are more firm and send these guest to classes more appropriate to their skill level, other are "kinder" and allow the guest to continue with the class and provide more time with these skiers to try get them up to speed at the expense of the others in the group and slowing down the rest in the group. This review cannot be complete without an attempt to name everyone who made such a wonderful holiday possible. A big thank you goes out to Zsofi, Narumi, Katie, Yugo (world champion Slack Liner), Dylan, Micheal, Peter, Tomaz, I'm sure we may have accidentally forgotten and left out a few more names. Finally, the great GO team is a testament to the leadership of CDV Julien Lettraz. From the moment we arrived till the moment we left, Julien was EVERYWHERE in the village, from checking the ski slopes before it is opened, to mini club (I've visited Club Med many times and I've never seen a CDV in Mini Club), to the restaurant at every meal time (NEVER EATING himself), at the reception, at the bar, Morning, afternoon or night, turn a corner and you'll see Julien! AMAZING. Really hands on CDV. A BIG THANK YOU to all the Club Med GO and GE team for making our holiday such a memorable one. We hope to visit again soon.

This was my family's first stay at ClubMed Sahoro, and we had an unforgettable time both skiing and relaxing over Christmas 2023! The snow, the food, the facilities, and the nightly shows were all amazing. I wanted to give a huge shout out especially to Joann and Heather, and other Korean GOs, that made our experience so special; from renting our ski gear the day we got there to checking in on us whenever possible, our family vacation could not have been as wonderful as it has been without your help. Hope to be able to visit again!

Had another great trip to Club Med Sahoro and continued to be welcome by the entire Club Med staff. Great days of powder were the icing on the cake but visiting Club Med Sahoro is like being at a home away from home. Food and rooms were both more than adequate but the happiness of my daughter when visiting there makes it worth everything. The (optional) wine list has improved over the years and adds a nice treat at the end of a day of activities. And also a special mention to Miku at the front desk who was my daughter's favorite person in the resort! She went out of her way to make my daughter feel special and welcome and it was very much appreciated!

Our family of 4 have stayed in Tomamu as well, both are excellent and well-run properties but the kids voted Sahoro their favourite hotel experience ever and they have excellent taste, so here are the main points! 1) Smooth, efficient welcome process with QR codes to scan that gave access to resort information, the ski instructors and our lovely host Miku (more on her later) so any questions or practicalities were easily handled that way versus having to do everything in person. We were shown around the hotel facilities and the room immediately and given the scale of the property that meant we were good to go straightaway (Tomamu is huge in comparison…) 2) Plenty of incidental things to do, a good gym, table tennis tables, pool tables, badminton/squash courts and a climbing wall… so in between skiing and other entertainment we found plenty to do. There were also tournaments organised almost every day that let the kids win prizes and socialise, very fun atmosphere. The spa is a nice addition in Sahoro vs Tomamu, and the outdoor hot pool is a fun thing to try when it is not crowded! 3) I am not a big fan of buffets generally but both this and Tomamu were very good, though for sure the scale of the offering in Tomamu is hard to beat. Nevertheless, a range of different cuisine choices, enough variety every day and little twists to break the monotony like light shows, fancy dress etc. Unlike some other people’s reviews I can testify the heavily worked ice cream machine never broke down! And Mina Mina (the separate hotpot restaurant) was excellent, particularly the Kegani crab and shabu shabu, and the service was really good, attentive to adjusting the air conditioning to manage the smokiness of the table and constantly there to help; in fact the team in the buffet were incredibly efficient as well, empty dishes would disappear in a blink of an eye, quite a logistical feat. Free seating yes, but very easy to find a place, in Tomamu staff walked us to a table but honestly I prefer choosing our own. 4) Room was a suite, plenty of space for all of us, two bathrooms and a great mountain view within easy walking distance of everything in the hotel. Recommended option for a family, slept really well after full and eventful days on the slopes! Of course cleanliness and service, as expected, excellent, we had the option of room service breakfast as well which was a nice option albeit the room is not designed specifically as a dining area. 5) Skiing: booked a lot of things online prior from the equipment to lessons… very smooth to get measured for the gear, it is taken down to where it needs to be for the kids the next day, GO helped the adults with our locker. Queues were very manageable, I would say this is the biggest difference with Tomamu, the scale of the resort and the crowds… Sahoro just felt like everything was simpler to get done and the staff were more personally helpful. The group lessons for the kids were very well-organised, a daunting logistical task for the staff but they remembered the kids’ names and made them feel welcome immediately… and the speed with which the kids made progress was amazing, I watched one Panda group lesson with Ella and she was encouraging, engaged and attentive throughout. I am not a snowsport expert (basketball injury!) so cannot comment on the difficulty of the slopes but my wife and kids loved every minute of the skiing and the snow quality was fantastic. One brilliant feature in Sahoro that unfortunately Tomamu did not have when we were there is the kids’ prize-giving ceremony where they get awarded badges depending on their ski achievements and it is a really lovely event where they get called on stage and the ski instructors are all there to take fun photos with them and make them feel awesome. Very nice touch by Stefan and the other ski managers. 6) Entertainment, have to say both resorts were great but the layout in Sahoro is a little more effective with the theatre leading onto the bar rather than being one multi-purpose room. That meant the evening could naturally segue between kids’ time and adults’ time but regardless the atmosphere was fun and kids-friendly. The week saw a wide range of shows, from an invited band (great range of songs), local drum group (saw them at Tomamu as well, excellent), to the obligatory Club Med kids’ show where the young ones got to perform for all of us and then enjoy a candy party… the surprise was the professionalism of the GO shows. Tomamu had a few dedicated dancers and gymnasts… Sahoro we got to see so many more familiar faces show their talents and the level of the choreography, the creativity of the concepts (k-pop vs rock, music through the decades starring the CDV) was top-notch. Extremely professional performance level and really cool to see GOs that worked so hard during the day behind the reception or teaching skiing show up and perform like stars for everyone’s enjoyment. 7) the last general area is management and co-ordination before I get into specific GOs. Brendan the CDV runs a tight and harmonious ship, the staff across the board are energetic, friendly, engaging and particularly kind and helpful with kids, the service levels are crisp and consistent… there are few if any weak links. The kids’ club is organized chaos in the morning but everything is in its place, all the kids’ things are exactly where they need to be, the stickers have been changed to reflect ski promotions, the numbers are checked and no kids left behind. I already mentioned the extremely high level of the performances, and the commitment of the staff across the board is what is impressive, they work so hard during the day but then to have the energy levels to perform for the guests and then stick around for a few drinks or even to play with the kids, day after day before it starts all over again, it is exhausting to think about! As for mentality, there was a minor ski accident during our stay and I noticed Brendan came back from his one off day to help co-ordinate the ambulance and logistics. So extremely high levels of consistency and commitment from the staff to the guest experience and that is all about the working culture. I will mention more individual details when I discuss GOs but the final impression as the buses leave is not only of everyone stood outside waving but all along the exit road GOs are holding flags on both sides of the bus and waving as well. Details, but they add up and they matter, so clearly this is a very well managed facility from the top down. Finally, and most importantly, to some of the individuals that helped make our stay so special Miku, our amazing host who was always there with a smile, kind word, attention and a hug for the kids, helped seamlessly manage logistics for us via WhatsApp, danced her heart out in the shows, got me into the karaoke queue and went out of her way to arrange a kids’ medicine to be purchased and delivered back to us the same day we asked. She is a gem and did a fantastic job embodying the Club Med spirit from the moment we arrived at the hotel to waving us goodbye at the end. My kids asked if she was our friend now :-) Bara and Pauline, two brilliant ski instructors for the kids, they made really amazing progress together (the kids went from Panda/Dragon to Trident 1 and 2 by the end of the week, largely credit to the girls) and were so kind and friendly and tailored their approach to each child. The kids were thrilled by little details: after the boys got promoted in their lesson, even though their working day was over the girls ran to the stage to make sure the prize ceremony organisers knew to give my kids the right badges. And they made sure we were all in the same team together for quiz night and patiently took photos together… a really warm family atmosphere and excellent instruction, thank you so much! The kids may have developed a lifelong interest in skiing from these experiences… Logan, Tanjun and Jason, the heart and soul of the entertainment group, from leading to singing to choreography, they were always visible, always engaging with guests and had a great level of positive energy that no doubt inspired the high level of performance every night. They are all very talented, outgoing and make the entertainment program so engaging for young and old alike. Keep up the great work and keep smiling! —— In summary, a fantastic week across all levels, one of the best family holidays we could recommend without reservation - we originally tried to return to Tomamu but it was full and we are so glad it turned out to be Sahoro this time, a smaller, more tightly knit, more personalised and warm experience that we will definitely return to at first opportunity (I was already being pressurised to book for Christmas by the kids on the plane home!). Well done and thank you to Brendan and all the GOs!

I have a great fun here with everyday snowboarding. I can just walk downstairs to rent equipments and then go snowboarding on the same floor. I had private Clubmed SB lesson from Coach Li. I make noticeable progress in only three days. With patience, he taught me a lot about snowboarding as well as skiing. He plays an important role in our tour.

Not our first visit to a ClubMed but certainly the best so far. Family of four with young children, first time skiing, it’s a great set up with lessons available for all levels, ski in and ski out, apres-ski to suit everyone. If you’ve not done ClubMed before, it looks expensive when booking but remember this is all inclusive (the only exclusion is ski equipment hire which is available in the resort). That means accommodation, all meals, snacks, drinks, ski pass, ski lessons and entertainment. The Guest Officers were extremely welcoming and the ski instructors proficient and diligent. We had a fantastic time and made some wonderful memories. A big shout out to those that made it possible and hope to see some of you next year (if I missed your name then sorry): Lea, Olivia, Anna, Milk, Titi, Miguel, Figo, Alarah, Charlie B, Dan (Mr Anna), baby Dan, Tasman Dan, Jason, Ella, Itzzy, Katie, James, Shiho, Vera, Poppy, Pauline, Summer & Max.
