Japan, the alternative winter sports world. Sahoro is a place of refinement, in full Japanese style. The microclimate that reigns over the island of Hokkaido, which has less rainfall and is cooler than the rest of Japan, ensures optimal snow cover for an intense skiing experience. And after all that skiing, revival is guaranteed, with the choice between Ofuro, traditional Japanese hot baths, and Canadian outdoor baths. Indoors you will find a heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and saunas.

Hi there, whoever is reading this message!

As a 12 year old kid, I wrote this to share my experience.

Pros:

You are instantly greeted by staff and some nice tea and warm towels, staff then shows you around, gives tips and is overall a good first impression.

The staff is very nice and helpful. They also help with directions and join you at eating times. One of the staff also asked if I was having a great day and we had a small conversation waiting for the elevator (Thanks ‘Al’)

Rooms were very nice and full of storage (at least for us) everything was quite new and clean, they also had the option to deliver more bath towels, soap and etc.

Since I’m 12, I’m in adult ski class. The coaches are very kind and encouraging, they also support skiers that are less skilled and try not to demote as much.

Events are very enjoyable and fun, you will also rarely be bored.

Food. Something I can’t forget here, the hot pot and buffet are one of the best I’ve been to. There are many choices and you can pick from a wide variety of food - that also serve vegan dishes!

Cons

The resort. Everything is separated and you must walk for a long time to reach somewhere. Compared to other resorts, I’ve been to, this club med is very old, even though they’ve renovated the resort, it still has some places that are very old and disgusting.

The items here at the gift shop are also very overpriced.

I still don’t understand the fact that people are having conversations during sleeping time. Stating that they have poor crowd control.

Some days, the parties are empty with only around a 2 families. Not the most motivating to make someone join.

Notes:

Anything I did not state means that I have not experienced it YET.

I am 12 so sorry for bad grammar or vocabulary.

This is MY experience

Shoutout to Vince, Edu, Marusha, Jayden and Pei

Hotel's Favourite
5.0 of 5 bubbles
Our family of 4 have stayed in Tomamu as well, both are excellent and well-run properties but the kids voted Sahoro their favourite hotel experience ever and they have excellent taste, so here are the main points!

1) Smooth, efficient welcome process with QR codes to scan that gave access to resort information, the ski instructors and our lovely host Miku (more on her later) so any questions or practicalities were easily handled that way versus having to do everything in person. We were shown around the hotel facilities and the room immediately and given the scale of the property that meant we were good to go straightaway (Tomamu is huge in comparison…)

2) Plenty of incidental things to do, a good gym, table tennis tables, pool tables, badminton/squash courts and a climbing wall… so in between skiing and other entertainment we found plenty to do. There were also tournaments organised almost every day that let the kids win prizes and socialise, very fun atmosphere. The spa is a nice addition in Sahoro vs Tomamu, and the outdoor hot pool is a fun thing to try when it is not crowded!

3) I am not a big fan of buffets generally but both this and Tomamu were very good, though for sure the scale of the offering in Tomamu is hard to beat. Nevertheless, a range of different cuisine choices, enough variety every day and little twists to break the monotony like light shows, fancy dress etc. Unlike some other people’s reviews I can testify the heavily worked ice cream machine never broke down! And Mina Mina (the separate hotpot restaurant) was excellent, particularly the Kegani crab and shabu shabu, and the service was really good, attentive to adjusting the air conditioning to manage the smokiness of the table and constantly there to help; in fact the team in the buffet were incredibly efficient as well, empty dishes would disappear in a blink of an eye, quite a logistical feat. Free seating yes, but very easy to find a place, in Tomamu staff walked us to a table but honestly I prefer choosing our own.

4) Room was a suite, plenty of space for all of us, two bathrooms and a great mountain view within easy walking distance of everything in the hotel. Recommended option for a family, slept really well after full and eventful days on the slopes! Of course cleanliness and service, as expected, excellent, we had the option of room service breakfast as well which was a nice option albeit the room is not designed specifically as a dining area.

5) Skiing: booked a lot of things online prior from the equipment to lessons… very smooth to get measured for the gear, it is taken down to where it needs to be for the kids the next day, GO helped the adults with our locker. Queues were very manageable, I would say this is the biggest difference with Tomamu, the scale of the resort and the crowds… Sahoro just felt like everything was simpler to get done and the staff were more personally helpful. The group lessons for the kids were very well-organised, a daunting logistical task for the staff but they remembered the kids’ names and made them feel welcome immediately… and the speed with which the kids made progress was amazing, I watched one Panda group lesson with Ella and she was encouraging, engaged and attentive throughout. I am not a snowsport expert (basketball injury!) so cannot comment on the difficulty of the slopes but my wife and kids loved every minute of the skiing and the snow quality was fantastic. One brilliant feature in Sahoro that unfortunately Tomamu did not have when we were there is the kids’ prize-giving ceremony where they get awarded badges depending on their ski achievements and it is a really lovely event where they get called on stage and the ski instructors are all there to take fun photos with them and make them feel awesome. Very nice touch by Stefan and the other ski managers.

6) Entertainment, have to say both resorts were great but the layout in Sahoro is a little more effective with the theatre leading onto the bar rather than being one multi-purpose room. That meant the evening could naturally segue between kids’ time and adults’ time but regardless the atmosphere was fun and kids-friendly. The week saw a wide range of shows, from an invited band (great range of songs), local drum group (saw them at Tomamu as well, excellent), to the obligatory Club Med kids’ show where the young ones got to perform for all of us and then enjoy a candy party… the surprise was the professionalism of the GO shows. Tomamu had a few dedicated dancers and gymnasts… Sahoro we got to see so many more familiar faces show their talents and the level of the choreography, the creativity of the concepts (k-pop vs rock, music through the decades starring the CDV) was top-notch. Extremely professional performance level and really cool to see GOs that worked so hard during the day behind the reception or teaching skiing show up and perform like stars for everyone’s enjoyment.

7) the last general area is management and co-ordination before I get into specific GOs. Brendan the CDV runs a tight and harmonious ship, the staff across the board are energetic, friendly, engaging and particularly kind and helpful with kids, the service levels are crisp and consistent… there are few if any weak links. The kids’ club is organized chaos in the morning but everything is in its place, all the kids’ things are exactly where they need to be, the stickers have been changed to reflect ski promotions, the numbers are checked and no kids left behind. I already mentioned the extremely high level of the performances, and the commitment of the staff across the board is what is impressive, they work so hard during the day but then to have the energy levels to perform for the guests and then stick around for a few drinks or even to play with the kids, day after day before it starts all over again, it is exhausting to think about! As for mentality, there was a minor ski accident during our stay and I noticed Brendan came back from his one off day to help co-ordinate the ambulance and logistics. So extremely high levels of consistency and commitment from the staff to the guest experience and that is all about the working culture. I will mention more individual details when I discuss GOs but the final impression as the buses leave is not only of everyone stood outside waving but all along the exit road GOs are holding flags on both sides of the bus and waving as well. Details, but they add up and they matter, so clearly this is a very well managed facility from the top down.

Finally, and most importantly, to some of the individuals that helped make our stay so special

Miku, our amazing host who was always there with a smile, kind word, attention and a hug for the kids, helped seamlessly manage logistics for us via WhatsApp, danced her heart out in the shows, got me into the karaoke queue and went out of her way to arrange a kids’ medicine to be purchased and delivered back to us the same day we asked. She is a gem and did a fantastic job embodying the Club Med spirit from the moment we arrived at the hotel to waving us goodbye at the end. My kids asked if she was our friend now :-)

Bara and Pauline, two brilliant ski instructors for the kids, they made really amazing progress together (the kids went from Panda/Dragon to Trident 1 and 2 by the end of the week, largely credit to the girls) and were so kind and friendly and tailored their approach to each child. The kids were thrilled by little details: after the boys got promoted in their lesson, even though their working day was over the girls ran to the stage to make sure the prize ceremony organisers knew to give my kids the right badges. And they made sure we were all in the same team together for quiz night and patiently took photos together… a really warm family atmosphere and excellent instruction, thank you so much! The kids may have developed a lifelong interest in skiing from these experiences…

Logan, Tanjun and Jason, the heart and soul of the entertainment group, from leading to singing to choreography, they were always visible, always engaging with guests and had a great level of positive energy that no doubt inspired the high level of performance every night. They are all very talented, outgoing and make the entertainment program so engaging for young and old alike. Keep up the great work and keep smiling!

——

In summary, a fantastic week across all levels, one of the best family holidays we could recommend without reservation - we originally tried to return to Tomamu but it was full and we are so glad it turned out to be Sahoro this time, a smaller, more tightly knit, more personalised and warm experience that we will definitely return to at first opportunity (I was already being pressurised to book for Christmas by the kids on the plane home!). Well done and thank you to Brendan and all the GOs!

Hi ClubMed,
My wife and 2 kids(Scotty, Mel, Sahara & Ryan) stayed at ClubMed Sahoro for 9 nights on January 10th-19th. We have stayed at Tomamu twice previously and thought we would try Sahoro and it didn’t disappoint.
From the bar staff Tuncay and Hasan who oversaw the whole bar area there was never an empty glass around or a table not cleaned. A great place to relax after 6h of skiing/snowboarding. Thanks for looking after us boys.
A massive thank you to our fantastic instructors, I know it’s the G.O’s job to talk and engage with the customers but by the end of our trip I would class them as family. Kyle, Kevin, Max G, Anthony Levi and Dodo. They also helped us and the kids go from beginner to boarder line advanced skiers/boarders. They also joined us for dinner a couple of times and was great to hear their stories. Also Lillian from the ski rentals that fully repaired my snow boot free of charge because he had an hour spare, now that is what ClubMed is about.
The G.O also performed shows in the theatre each night that also made our trip so memorable.
Thanks you to all the staff at ClubMed Sahoro for giving us an unforgettable experience.
Total cost for the entire package from door to door was AU $31,000K Flights, transfers, accommodation, lift passes, buffet food and drinks.

Kind Regards,

Scott, Melissa,
Sahara & Ryan.

Second time here, check in was a disaster with no English speaking staff mixing up our passports and paperwork with other guests and they asked us to sort it out. No more one on one check in and resort introduction to the room as the hotel was understaffed this year. I felt sorry for the other guests that arrived with us as nobody really got them orientated at the resort. The Japanese housekeepers went to Niseko to make more money and we were left with Chinese workers who had to use their phones to translate any questions. New GO so no more Brandon...I think my biggest memory of the new GO was when he was saying goodbye to us on the bus "Don't forget to take the survey our paychecks depend on that" huh? Evening entertainment was a step down from last year for sure. Poor restaurant staff had to work so hard as it was well understaffed this year. Food WAS excellent and well prepared. The only Japanese workers remaining at the resort were basically a few kitchen workers who were trainees. The new restaurant manager was attentive but we did miss Mana from last year. The Japanese onsen bath place was pretty bad this year. Nobody would clean in the evening so when I would wake up in the morning to go there the towel box is overflowing, changing room dirty and garbage full. One morning I got up and in the show drain in the shower washing area was human feces left there? Looks like a child took a crap there the night before...pretty gross to wake up to. On a positive note I will say the internet was much better this year with strong signal in the room and throughout the resort. Snow was great as nobody really goes up the gondola they just stay on the bunny slopes with the free lessons leaving the powder runs to me and the locals. Would I return? I don't think so..with an overworked and unstaffed group of workers and the resort being 40+ years old now it is time to move on. There are no Japanese guests there and I asked the locals skiing their why they are staying down the road at the other resort. "oh the price is too high now at Club Med it is double what it was pre-covid".

I chose Club Med Tomamu for my first overseas trip with my 5-year-old boy and was very satisfied. The program was moderately enjoyable and not difficult, including all the G.O.s who welcomed us for the first time and the Mini Club for children, and the language difference was not a big problem due to their unique liveliness and kindness. It was fun to eat and socialize with various G.O.s at each meal, and it was great to be able to enjoy a meal that I never get tired of with a variety of menus at each meal and snack time. It was convenient that the suite we stayed in had room service for breakfast, and they restocked the snack bar every day and kept the room neat and tidy when we were out for a while, so we were able to use it neatly during our stay. One thing that was disappointing was that the bedding, towels, and shower robes in the room had a peculiar laundry smell that bothered me a bit. This is probably due to the minimal use of chemicals due to the Save the Earth campaign. Although it doesn't have the scent of Downy laundry that I want, it should not have a dry smell, so I will feel better when I sleep while washing.
Even now that I’m back, I’m happy because the memories of Club Med Tomamu remain >_<
I think it would be good for children in elementary school or younger to play at Minamina Beach, and even though it wasn't ski season, they were able to have fun without getting bored. I really want to go there once during the winter season and give my child ski lessons. I was able to have a great time thanks to the various GOs, and I would like to especially thank ISHA and NINDY, whom my child became very attached to in a short period of time.

We had a wonderful time with a large group of family and friends. The food was really good with king crab night being the absolute standout. It was a smaller resort than Tomamu where we stayed the year before and it would be a personal preference which is better value as there are many variables. Tomamu has a larger pool and rooms that could accomodate 4 perons as standard and Sahoro offering a more intimate experience and less crowds. Night time entertainment was on par with more opportunity to escape the main events in the separate bar area at Sahoro when you need some down time. My main disappointment with Sahoro was the closure of the best part of the resort at a time when there was actually plenty of snow. The chairlift servicing the north face and associated black runs were closed. The lesson schedules for people with families was more convenient at Tomamu because the kids went out earlier at Tomamu allowing more time for adults to enjoy breakfast and prepare. There were certainly no crowds to contend with on the slopes and the tree skiing was great, although some summertime maintenance to clear out a lot of the smaller trees and undergrowth would be great. Wonderful resort facilities, friendly staff and great food! I'm sure you'll have fun if you book this resort. Enjoy!

This is our first Sahoro Clubmed with our previous visits to Hokkaido being in Tomamu. It has turned out to be one of the best we had.
Sahoro is probably 3 times smaller than Tomamu. The recent renovations and new lick of paint must have helped spruce up the ambience as it was rather different from what we have heard about it. We like the cosiness of this smaller resort. Having said that, I do think Tomamu has more options for ski runs.

We have 2 adjacent rooms which we shared with 2 children 11 and 13 years old. Rooms are decent in size with a lot of storage space. The shower over bathtub space is a tad small, not the best if you’re a larger and taller European. The separate toilet cubicle will benefit from a hand wash basin. Small inconveniences because ultimately you do not spend much time in your room.

Julien runs one of the best teams by far. A great reflection of good leadership skills and camaraderie spirit. Ju Ju is everywhere. He will be running around with the kids, offering to strap on your ski boots, making crepes at the bar to his nightly performances; all to squeeze a little laughter out of you. He was there on arrivals and departures. A very hands-on chief indeed. His tenacity is greatly infectious and a role model to his team. Almost everyone at clubmed has a multi-portfolio. They are skiing by day and performing by night. They could also be managing the kids club and singing for you next. The nightly entertainment is highly recommended and not to be missed!

The food and beverage department are always whipping up different delectables daily. We were thoroughly spoiled by the F&B Manager Doğan, and Head Chef Asim. You need to work hard to shed those calories. Adi, Dileep, Tamara, and everyone I could not name are always waiting on us hand and foot.

The ski and snowboard instructors are very passionate about what they do and they do it with great pride. The ski shop stocks a variety of skis depending on your level. Cha Cha is extremely helpful and gives awesome advice.

2 weeks upon returning and we are still reminiscing… until then.

We are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful time and that Sahoro has turned out to be one of the best resorts you have visited in Hokkaido. Service at Club Med Sahoro - Amazingly personalised

We had an incredible experience at Club Med Sahoro, thanks to the exceptional service provided by the entire team.
Village Chief Logan together with Dogan, the Restaurant Manager, went above and beyond to make our stay special. They arranged a special hotpot dinner for our family, which was truly amazing.

The ski shop team was also fantastic, helping us with our equipment and getting us ready for our daily ski adventures. The bar at Club Med Sahoro is a must-visit, with an excellent selection of sake and classic drinks.

However, we did notice that the buffet lunch and dinner menu seemed repetitive, with similar dishes offered every day. While the special variety dishes were a nice touch, they didn't quite make up for the lack of daily menu changes. Perhaps this is an area for improvement?

Overall, we were impressed with the service and amenities at Club Med Sahoro. With a bit of menu variation, it would be truly unbeatable.

Ski Experience at Club Med Sahoro - Exceptional!

I'd like to extend special thanks to our incredible ski instructors who made our experience unforgettable. Jock, our beginner lesson instructor, was fantastic! His patience, encouragement, and trust in us helped us progress to Club 1.

Cameron, our Club 1 instructor, was equally impressive. His caring and supportive approach made us feel at ease, and the boys had an absolute blast under his guidance, advancing to Club 2 in no time!

Lastly, my S-course instructor, Daf, was outstanding! He shared valuable tips and secrets to master the S-course steering technique, which was incredibly helpful.

Club Med Sahoro exceeded our expectations in every way. The slopes were perfect – nice and powdery – and the chairlifts were well-maintained.

Highly recommend Club Med Sahoro for ski lessons and an unforgettable winter experience!

It's been a long-awaited trip to Club Med Sahoro and they never disappoint. Always welcoming, Yuzu ( Welcome & Service Coordinator )  was in touch even before our departure to confirm our arrival details, arranging free room upgrade with their loyalty program, and greeting us personally upon our arrival.
It was great seeing familiar faces like Dogan, who has rose through the ranks since we first met, and catching up. Dogan and his F & B team did a great job ensuring we were well fed, the food was great and tables always promptly cleared. Special effort from Teresa arranging a beautifully decorated table for our gathering was much appreciated.

Special thanks to the many who helped me when I sprained my ankle snowboarding: Eishi from ski team came out with some guys to help carry me into the club and he stayed with me until Miyu, from reception took over and accompanied me to Sahoro medical centre, assisting with translation, arranging transport etc. As they say, laughter is the best medicine and Lia from reception certainly brought plenty of that. Her exuberance and infectious laughter lifted my spirits, together with the warmth and concern from Ziko (Reception) and Anom (housekeeping).
It was great seeing the 2 very talented GO Oman and Lance again for the nightly high energy entertainment. Thanks Lance for your special number "24 carats" performed upon request. Sure brings back memories.

Last but not least, CDV Julien, always present, always concerned, and hilarious in the magic show. Despite my misfortune, you guys have been great. It's such fantastic GOs of Club Med that keep me going back year after year.

Where do I start. An excellent family holiday to Club Med and the Ski Slopes. This was our 2nd visit to this Club Med ( 10 yrs between ) and certainly left buzzing. The Resort is relatively small and personal. Ski in Ski Out. So easy. The equipment hire is on site and open late if, like us, you arrive on the HK flight at 7.30pm. The Transfers were well organized and efficient (2hr from local airport) . The Resort does not feel too busy (even though it was at capacity). Lots of Family which brings a buzz. My big call out would be to the Ski Instructors that we were lucky enough to be involved with in our daily lessons. Luke and Ben and Henry - all fine Englishmen who have trained around the World in different resorts. They were so good in working out what the class wanted and helped with the tips and tricks. The Class I was in (Group 3) was full of such exceptional "Ski Mates" from Singapore, Sydney (Paddington), Sydney (N.Shore), Hong Kong, Korea and more. A great way to enjoy a Ski at your own level and bring some encouragement. Thank you. The Meals - Breakfast/Lunch/Tea/Dinner - so good and a choice for everyone. The food kept pumping and never ran out. Thank you to Chef who whipped out a fantastic Crumble one evening!! The Bar area pumped well and a credit to the Bar team who managed to keep things flowing at peak times. Now the other big treat was the evening entertainment .... Soooooo Good. Each night something a little different and I was so impressed in how involved the Staff were. Ben (Ski Trainer) can certainly move on the dancefloor. A hip hop and shake. The rooms were perfect, not that one spends much time there. One tip is perhaps bring and HDMI cable for the TV if you want a more international selection of TV plug your Laptop of phone in to watch downloads. The Gymn was well equiped and the Pool had a dedicated lane for doing lanes away from the general splash area. Small tips, if you want to do a wash then there are clothes machines and driers to use which is great but they are coin operated .... and we had not local money or coins. Reception could not help us. So bring a small float along and it can be changed to coins at reception. I have a feeling we will be back at some time in the future.
