Detailed Reviews
My experience with Countrywide Cottages began a few weeks before our stay - Do, one of the owners, was really helpful with my booking arrangements. We stayed in the Ferny Reach cottage, which I assume it has been recently renovated because it was pristine! A few real stand outs for me were: the comfy bed, the big fluffy towels, a very well equipped kitchen (we cooked a few meals in the cottage and had all the pots, pans, cutlery, crockery etc that we needed) and the fact that the cottages are far enough apart that we couldn't see or hear our closes neighbours.
But the extent to which it is dog-friendly was the winning factor for us. We're a couple who travel with a big dog and we really appreciated that she was genuinely welcome. The fencing around the yard was high and secure, so she had somewhere safe to play and she got to snuggle on the couch with us, just like she would at home.
The standard of housekeeping was really impressive - despite dog being welcome inside, there was not a hair or paw print or whiff of dog in the cottage when we arrived.
We loved our stay and can't wait to come back. Thank you!

We stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 old dogs Lottie (15) and Henry (14). We had been given a one night voucher as a Christmas present and we extended it to make it a decent break away. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the stay was.
There were 4 cabins but all were well spaced apart so that you were not disturbed by the ones next door. We had a large fenced in area that the dogs could run around in as part of our own private domain which was great as they they usually bark and get excited when they see other dogs.
We were in Ferny Reach at the end of the driveway and the cabin was clean and comfortable. We loved the log fire which created a warm cosy atmosphere. Included in the cabin was a vast range of DVDs that we could choose from. A number that we had never seen before and now we also had time to watch as this was a place to relax. The kitchen facilities were all that you could want, just like being at home.
We were amazed at the bird life outside. Yellow Robins and Wrens hopping about the grounds outside as well as the King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas hoping for a feed on the bird feeder hanging on the balcony, and yes there was bird seed provided . We also spotted a wallaby from our balcony in the bush staring at us, wondering who the new inhabitants were this evening.
Just to let you know, there are also a few things you can buy at reception. Di’s home made jams are yummy. We bought blackberry and it was delicious on toast. We also bought a bottle of local Danny Goonan Shiraz wine there. A nice drop. We decided to buy another bottle to take home with us as we liked it so much.
There are walks around the property through bush that surround the cabins so you can take you four legged friends for a stroll if you feel like a walk. There is a BBQ and games area that includes table tennis and a pool table. There was also a dam where you could let your dogs go for a swim or even catch yabbies if you were keen enough. There are also instructions on how to catch them if you had never done it before.
Thank you Di and Stuart for your lovely hospitality.

We stayed for 5 nights in the canopy cottage with 2 kids and the dog and we had an absolute ball!
The cottage was spotless upon arrival with cookies left for the humans, dog biscuits for the dog and bird seed to feed the friendly parrots. Needless to say they didn’t last long!
The cottage had a large fully fenced yard for the dog to run around and the kids to throw a ball. The cottages are well spaced out and private so you don’t feel like you are on top of other guests.
There was plenty for the kids to do. They went yabbying, fed the chickens and played in the games room. And there is plenty of space to walk the dog around the forrest that backs onto the property.
The location is also a great base and we did plenty of day trips around the area.
Di and Stuart were fantastic, friendly hosts and were always happy to answer any questions I had.
Will definitely be back again for another stay.

What a beautiful place to stay, and the perfect location to relax and do nothing. Not only pet friendly, but pet paradise. The Igloo cabin we stayed in was designed to be all access accommodation, and I can't really comment on that as an able bodied person, but it certainly appeared to be. It was large and very comfortable, everything had been thought of. Beds were very comfortable, window coverings did their thing to keep the morning light out, and there was plenty to entertain you, just inside the cabin itself (books, DVD's & games). It was great to be able to hand feed the birds on the verandah and our dog loved chasing them and playing in the large enclosed back yard. We were a little concerned about taking our puppy away for the first time, but this location was ideal to test the waters. You can barely see the cabins either side (there are only 4 on the large property) and despite being fully booked, we only saw one other dog from a distance. It was the best place to test the waters, as you can fully relax, knowing your dog is not disturbing the neighbours if he/she does get a little rowdy. You could easily spend a few days of down time here, without even leaving the property. However, there are several dog friendly eateries and locations around, so you can venture further afield if you like. Just be aware that phone and internet service is hard to come by, so maybe plan and book your activities ahead of time to avoid having issues.

Hello there lovely Travel-Nut!! What a fabulous review. Thank you so much for putting up so much detail to reassure people about the experience here. It certainly is a drag having such poor internet and phone service at the cottages - somewhat helped by having better reception up at our house. But I guess sometimes it's good to switch off. We have gotten used to being able to get online where ever we are though - I certainly get that. Thats the trouble with trees!!! WIFI kryptonite. Thanks again, Cheers, Di and Stuart

The glorious sounds and sights of the Australian bush surround each private cottage so even when you are only an hour from home it feels like a glorious getaway. The Igloo cottage is fully wheelchair accessible with spacious rooms to enable mobility equipment and ease of access throughout.
This is our 2nd visit as we love the hospitality from lovely hostess Di; from her welcoming dog and human treats, seed pack to feed the native parrots on the deck, and a fire blazing from the pot-belly heater greeting us.
The beds are snuggly, the surrounding walking paths inviting, and the secure large yard meant peace of mind as the pooches romped and played.
I thoroughly recommend Countrywide Cottages as a place where families, their dogs and anyone with mobility issues will feel at home.

This is the cleanest and nicest place we have stayed in, and we have rented a lot of short term holiday houses around Victoria. The cottage was very modern and beautiful but still had the lovely country feeling with the open fire. It is so nice to stay somewhere where our pets are not only accepted, but encouraged and welcomed! There were many little things that were prepared for us on arrival that made the stay very special, such as bird seed and home made dog biscuits. The nature is amazing and we could sit on the porch bird watching while the dogs happily sniffed around the big, secure garden. Good nature walks are literally on the doorstep and we really enjoyed the communal games room where we could play pool and ping pong. Not to mention the many board games that were available in the house! We had a great time trying to fish for yabbies as well. The owners are lovely and very approachable and I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family, those with dogs but also those without, considering I did not see any traces of dogs being there before us. We would definitely go here again.

Oh Elin...what a resounding review!!! Thank you so much. High praise indeed! And thank you so much for your help with the naughty little local runabout dogs who somehow found themselves having been put into your yard!! They are so cute but definitely don't want to be looked after. We appreciate your help in trying to keep them a bit safer, having chatted with their owners since then! It really was a pleasure to have you all stay with us. Thank you again so much for your recommendations to those around you! Cheers, Di and Stuart

My husband, Archie 🐾, and myself, recently stayed 3 nights in the Igloo Cottage at Countrywide Cottages. The peace and serenity was delicious - all that could be heard, whilst either sitting on the balcony or walking though the bush tracks, was the gentle breeze and the birds singing. All of the cottages are very private from each other. It was a delight watching the King Parrots & Rosellas sitting on the balcony. Di & Stuart were very welcoming, and information on the workings of the cottage, the immediate environment, and the local area was excellent. It was Archie's (our anxious rescue dog) first pet friendly holiday, and he loved the bushwalks, and the huge fenced off area around the cottage for him to explore/sniff etc. He wasn't game enough to say hello to the Llama or sheep, or to go for a swim in the dam, but had a great time. Ned's Retreat is a secure fenced area where Archie sniffed and mooched while we enjoyed a game of pool. The cottage was very comfortable with good quality cutlery, crockery and linen. The beds were very comfy++. We had a great supply of firewood to keep us warm when necessary and we did not want for anything. Igloo cottage is a great choice for anyone who requires a wheelchair. The cottage gets a 10 for cleanliness. We heartily recommend Countrywide Cottages for a sweet break from the bustle of life. 👏👍

I was sitting on the back deck reading when a king parrot landed on the page and then began rummaging around trying to reach the bag of seed parked beside me. It doesn't get any better than this. Cottages over forest and ferns, 25 mins drive to Lorne, spotlessly clean and super dog friendly with a huge fully fenced yard.. And....I'm fussy for myself too. You couldn't ask for more, with or without your dog. Total privacy. It's perfect.

If you want a peaceful, serene bush escape with your beloved dog there is no better place than Countrywide Cottages. This oasis has been so thoughtfully done, nothing has been forgotten both in the cottages and all around the property. The cottages are spotless, comfy, cosy with a pot belly fire & fenced yard which backs into the forest. Even a bird feeder and seed to attract the local, cheeky Rosellas. With walking tracks close by, fenced paddocks to run, a BBQ with everything you will need to cook up a storm. Our dog had a wonderful time with so much to sniff and so much space to run he was exhausted at the end of the day. They provide a dog bed, bowls, treats and even a sheet to go over the furniture should your pup want to snuggle with you on the couch!
The owners Di and Stuart are lovely friendly people and nothing is too much trouble. They even let you take fresh free range eggs from their hen house.
There is much information about the local attractions in a folder in the cottage and maps of walking tracks and beaches where dogs are allowed to run free. We took Stuart’s advice and tried the delicious pies at the nearby Store where you can sit at tables outside with your dog. They had many other yummy treats it was hard to decide what to have.
All that lovely fresh country air makes for good sleeping in the comfy beds with lovely bed linen. There is even heated towel racks and a hair drier which I was kicking myself for forgetting till I found one in the bathroom drawer. They really have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay a stress free and comfortable time. Thanks Di and Stuart, see you again soon!
