We stayed at Sani Valley Lodge for 2 nights. This lodge has an amazingly beautiful setting with views that left us in awe! 3 lakes on the property where you can fish, game roaming around freely (zebras, blesbok, rooihartbees, springbok & eland). We enjoyed a boat ride on the main lake, horse back safari and a trip up Sani Pass...

We arrived in a weekend that snow was announced. And snowing it did in our first night! We were a bit unprepared for this as we had not enough food with us. Also we were driving in a regular car, not a 4x4, which is not recommended in this type of weather. The staff was very helpful in guiding us...

Sani Valley Lodge is a perfect getaway to get well deserved rest with stunning views and a very relaxed atmosphere. The Lakeside chalets are spacious, well equipped and have huge windows with the most amazing views over the lake and mountain. Great staff and good food - just bring your own wine. What a scenic destination with many activities to be done such as hiking, MTB, drive up the Sani pass mountain and visit the highest pub in africa, game viewing, horse riding (and like any berg horse, they do not listen very well), they say they have an animal farm but it's really a chicken/ duck coop and trout fishing (although...

Gareth M, General Manager at Sani Valley Lodge and Hotel, responded to this review

Dear Camilla Thank you for the review. Yes the "animal farm" is very limited, I try to explain to the guests that I see that it is very basic and definitely not a commercialized animal farm, but the younger kids do love playing with the little bunnies and collecting fresh eggs. Fishing can be trying I agree, especially at this...

Sani valley lodge is a quaint and peaceful location with private lodges dispersed on the grounds. The lodges are quite secluded and one must self cater for lunch however the breakfast is deliciously served in the breakfast lodge near a cosy fire. Dinners are preordered and served privately in ones lodge. The little gestures shown by staff are lovely surprises...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sani Valley Lodge and Hotel is a private nature reserve only 2 hours from Durban. It sits within the dramatic Drakensberg mountain range, borders the World Heritage Site and is the closest luxury accommodation to the famous Sani Pass. The reserve accommodates couples, families and small groups, all with the choice of full & self catering. Within the valley sits one of the largest privately owned lakes in South Africa, which is surrounded by a variety of antelope, zebra, baboons and other wildlife. It is one of the very few animal reserves in the Drakensberg, further enhanced by the vast lake which attracts unparalleled birdlife. The fishing is well renowned with regional records being attributed to the size of the lake. This is the prefect place to relax and have fun. One can indulge in a massage, be taught how to fly fish, go otter spotting by canoe, lounge in the Jacuzzi, be taken game viewing on horse back, drive a 4X4 up the famous Sani Pass, hike to the Bushmen paintings and more. Come visit. It's an experience you'll never forget! ... more   less
