If you're looking for a quiet holiday in the mountains, this is perfect. Staff are friendly, management knowledgable and the views are stunning. My wife & I found the Settlers Museum very interesting - Life was tough for those Old Timers! The last 60kms of road is gravel and we had lots of rain rain, so it was very slippery...

We went there - the drive from Joburg was a little longer than expected (6 hours) as the road on the last hour was not great. But it was fine in our normal car so not too bad - just slow. It was completely worth it - we stayed in the cottage which is well equipped and has a beautiful...

If I lived in Europe or the UK and was depressed by the weather, or Brexit, I would jump on a plane, fly to Durban, and drive a few hours to Lotheni. We were fortunate enough to have a bit of snow when we here, and that did perhaps really make things extraordinarily beautiful, but this part of the Southern...

We stayed at Lotheni cottages for two nights and it was most unusual experience. The cottages are well equipped and comfortable, but it is to be remembered that electricity is there only from 5 pm till 10 pm and better be equipped with torches and charge your equipment during that period. There were very romantic kerosine lamps but we did...

The only downside to the campsite for me was the lack of trees. Since the alien trees were cut down some years ago, shade is a problem. Aside from that the camp site has good space, a beautiful outlook over the mountains and clean ablutions - shower only. Note that there is no electricity (unlike further down at the chalets),...

Spent 3 nights in cottage 2 at Lotheni this last weekend. The self catering cottage was well equipped and beds surprisingly comfortable. The views are breathtaking and the peace, soul lifting. Took a short hike to Jacob's Ladder a little waterfall about 1.8km from the cottage and easy enough for the most inexperienced hiker (which I am!). Also went down...

Brilliant location, breathtaking views, secluded with own trout dam. Ideal to get away from it all. Gas geysers, lamps, fridge and chest freezer. No elektrisity. Great walks, swimming, vegetation and wildlife ( baboons and eland) and smaller animals/birds. Nice cycling to reserve entrance and back (uphill) for a good workout. Reception store have basic groceries. Friendly staff. Maintenance at cottage...

The cottage sleeps ten and is very basic. It is quite a distance away from the chalets and camp sites and quite secluded which is great! It has its own trout dam which only guests staying in Simes cottage may use. There is no electricity whatsoever and gas geysers, a gas stove and gas lanterns are provided. The staff also...

A beautiful weekend camping at Lotheni with the family. Friendly and helpful staff, exciting walks, beautiful waterfalls. Apparently there is a lovely walk to yellowwood caves but we didn't have time to visit so there will need to be a return visit.. Next time I want to try get in at Simes Cottage.
