The hotel’s location is by far the best on the island. Only three hotels are privileged to be in this part of the beach nestled between the rocks. It boasts white powdery sand, verdant foliage to shade from sunshine, and easy access to swimming areas with no tail boats in sight.

Guests staying at the Serendipity and Ten Moons hotels often come to Kathalee’s part of the beach and sometimes rent a sunbed, which says a lot about the resort’s location and comforts. Serendipity’s beautiful corner is too narrow to accommodate sun loungers, while Ten Moons hotel has some beach chairs, but in a deep and impenetrable tree shade. The Kathalee Resort is more accommodating offering bean chairs, umbrellas, and sunbeds for relaxing sun lounging.

The lovely couple that manages the resort made us feel very welcome by providing valuable advice about navigating the island or exploring the underwater realm.

Snorkeling off the beach in any tide is possible, though the low tide will give you a better view of coral fish. We easily found the “Nemo” fish (clownfish) with the help of our host who readily shared his insights.

The breakfast, though basic, is healthy and sufficient with all usual options covered and freshly brewed coffee to accompany it. And, yes, the resort does have a drip coffee machine.

The hotel offers a free shuttle to the walking street in the evenings. If you have enough stamina to brave the slopes, it will take you only 10 minutes to get to the busy part of the island, plus there are some shortcut options.

There is no need to dress up on any occasion, flip-flops are the only pair of shoes you’ll need during your stay. The hotel gave us every opportunity to truly enjoy the minimalist and unencumbered lifestyle, beautiful lush nature, and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

This place is located with private beach tucked away from the main beach. The room was very clean and well proportioned with balcony over looking the beach, with a great view of the sunrise. The omelette for breakfast was probably the best I’ve had! Transport provided to the main walking street and taxi was 100 tbh to return. You can walk about 1km to the other end of the beach to catch the sunset. Highly recommended.

Great little hotel on the best stretch of beach in Koh Lipe. The rooms have a decent size, the bathrooms could use a bit of an upgrade, but overall this didn't bother us at all. The staff is really attentive and helpful, after the first day they moved us to the room by the beach, when they noticed we are with kids. The breakfast is quite good, we loved the fresh fruit and pancakes in the morning. The staff really makes a difference . We very much look forward to coming back soon.

We had a lovely time at Kathalee. Snorkeling equipment, Kayak use for free, and plenty of guidance and friendly service from all. The setting and almost private beach, a little away from the many noisy long boats was idyllic. Incredible restaurants right on your doorstep and Walking Street a chip n a putt away if you wanted to try something different. The room had a view second to none. It was clean, light and with its own little balcony through big sliding doors, made for the most beautiful sundowners and the sunrise each morning over the sea was spectacular. We will be back.

The room was not cleaned at all when I checked in. Horrified to find out 2 centipedes in the room and cigarette ash under the bed sheets..
Shortened the stay to 1 night. Another setback was there was a German guy, who was a husband of manager strangely walking around the hotel while he "does not work for the hotel(in his own word)". The manager agreed to refund unstayed nights but being reluctant and unhelpful to move forward the process. Avoid here.

Beautiful sunrise in a beautiful place, with beautiful fishes and beautiful sunshine! What we love most is the unobstructed view of the sea, with no long-tail boats parked there. It's so easy to snorkel all day long. With plenty of fishes and ocean life to see there's no need for island hopping here.

Breakfast provided is great too! The local food menu is tasteful as well. Many thanks to Khan, her husband and the friendly staff for the great hospitality and thoughtfulness for my mum, who has difficulty walking. Special thanks to Robe for taking such good care of us!

Hope to see more improvement in terms of cleanliness and amenities in the room.

The views from each room are superb. For me, it is worth getting a superior room if in budget. The hill means it’s a long haul to get there if you have mobility issues but once there the view is outstanding both from the bed, and the balcony.
The rooms are clean and well kept and the staff are very very helpful. The owner could not have done more for us! You can borrow snorkelling kit there, as well as kayaks.
The beach is beautiful (if small) there, but 100 times better than the terrible view of a ‘boat park’ along the rest of sunrise beach.
I would recommend without hesitation!!

Dear all,

I would strongly recommend you to avoid your stay in this Resort. The island is idyllic and it is very well prepared for tourists with many resorts at the front of the beach, so do not choose this one because of its location (which was good, but fortunately there are many more resorts in front of the beach as well).

We were in this resort in August 2016 for 4 nights and taking into account its price (not precisely low for low season) we were expecting a good quality service. Unfortunately, it was not as expected and the price and the service received were not equal at all. Shortly explained, these were all the issues we had to handle with:
- The sheets were dirty.
- TV was not working from the first day so we asked to be repaired. They never fixed it up.
- Internet connection was working really badly.
- The first day of the stay we had to wait for a long time for the taxi service they offer to bring you to the walking street (taxi was not ready).
- Breakfast was scanty and disgusting. There were mosquitos and insects in the fruit they served. There was not milk (I asked for it and the answer was that there was not milk in all the island, which was a lie because there was milk at 7-eleven). There was not a coffee machine. There were not biscuits.

I would strongly suggest to avoid this resort at any cost.

We arrived on Koh Lipe with our backpacks and no reservations. We read about Kathalee Resort and decided to check them out in person. Norbert and Kan welcomed us at the front desk and got us settled in to a beautiful ocean view room! Room included fridge,TV, wifi, great porch, free shuttle to Walking Street, and much-needed air conditioning! We ate dinner at the on-site restaurant which served authentic Thai food. Breakfast was included, which consisted of both Western and Thai cuisine. Two-thumbs up. . . I hope I am lucky enough to come back again!

Dear guest, we offer free pick up from the beach at arrival. Please let us know: What time you arrive at Koh Lipe? Where you come from ( harbor of departure)? And name of the boat company? See you at the beach. Best regards Kathalee Beach Resort

Hello Brain Q, the WIFI signal is very strong in all the resorts, But this is not the problem here. Koh Lipe is about 60km away fro the main land and there is no fiber cable coming to here. All the traffic on internet and mobile phones is going from island to island via transmitter station. And this is sometimes very slow or overloaded. Mainly WIFI is very good at night time when most people are sleeping. By the way we do not have mountain view rooms. We only have sea view rooms. Best regards Kathalee Beach Resort
