Back to basics. Huts lovely (if a little small even for one person) but no air-conditioning! Lots of shelving and lots of mosquitoes: some get inside the net at night. The coils they give you are ineffective. Al fresco wet room / shower room so more mosquitoes. Good quality linen/towels.

Hot water is the only difference between a deluxe room and standard room. I showered three times a day and didn't need hot water (remember, you're outside).

Not all banks in Thailand charge a fee. The resort will charge 6% on arrival which is a bit of a swiz. so don't book through an online site or pay from the stronger currency online.

Common area for tea/coffee and water not far from the reception. Environmentally friendly resort. Glad that I didn't have to change my towels every day.

Dear S.A. Thanks for your review. But I have to correct you, for the debit/credit Card we don't charge 6% but 3% which is (more or less) what the bank charge to us.

This hotel is perfectly located, right in the middle of walking street, but set back a bit so really quiet. Great bar on the corner too. It’s just a 10 - 15 mins walk to any of the 3 beaches, all really easy to walk to. Our room was amazing, plenty of space & clean and tidy.

Nice bungalow surrounded by the trees, in the middle of koh Lipe.
The staff was very hepful. The bungalow clean everyday, the garden around clean too.
They have a 3 different garbage for recycling
For me is like a little paradise in the jungle at less than 1 min of the main street of the island. Quiet, and relax, what better for my holiday ?

We booked Gecko for 3 nights but we couldn't stay even for the first one. The was cockroaches in the bathroom and a rat inside the bungalow. We left to sleep some place else and meanwhile the rat ate our backpack. But the worst thing was that when we went to talk to the owner (a italian guy named Marco) he was really rude to us saying that he wouldn't do anything about it and that we were "city people" and we should go back to our concrete walls. It was the worst experience we've ever had. We left Gecko without any money back, with the backpack ripped off and really dissapointed by the way we were treated there.

Dear guest We are giving a lot of consideration to the reviews of our guests, we are using this reviews for better understanding the needs of our guests and for improving our services, but some people use this instrument not for the purpose of what it is, but just for make the damage to other people business. The true: This Lady just arrived, make the check-in, go inside the room and after 1 minute come to the reception and said: "there is a beetle in my toilet, I want to leave and get back the money". Our staff go to the room to check with her and there was no any beetle. But it is possible, the insects can fly and our bungalow toilets are open so, even if we pay many attention to the cleaning, we can not stop the insects to fly in and out. In Agoda, where she booked, there are 41 photos of our resort. It is very clear the location: in a piece of original Lipe Forest. That's why our guest choose us. If you want to go in a pristine Island and don't see any animal or insects, you have to choose a cement bunker hotel, like, unfortunately, there are in Lipe, and thousands of trees been cut down to build that kind of hotels. The lady booked and payed to Agoda for the room so the reception staff answer "if you want cancel the booking you have to contact Agoda if they agreed and they give you the money back for us it is ok to cancel the booking" But you can not ask from us the money you payed to somebody else. And not because we wrong something but because you booked the wrong hotel or you choose the wrong holiday. She went to sleep somewhere else and keep the room key. 2 days after she came back to speak with me, she start to be heavy and offensive, and she "treat" me: "you give me the money or I write bad about you in internet". And here we are. This "treat" qualify the person and the review she wrote. We have more then 5000 different guests every year, It is normal to meet some guests more difficult then other, for that we do all our best for give the most enjoyable stay to everybody. Our guest know us and our Resort and the positive hundreds reviews we have in internet plus the guests coming back every year is what make us proud of our job. No Miss Joanna_rw, you are not keeping me awake at night with your fake review. So you can keep your "black mailing treat" with you. Marco (the Italian Owner she mentioned)

I stayed at Gecko Lipe resort for 4 nights in July 2013. I found it to be in an excellent location, just off of walking street where all the restaurants are located. It is in a lovely natural setting and within easy walking distance of the 3 main beaches. Pattaya and sunrise beaches can be accessed easily from walking street and the lady owner/manager said she would show me an easy route to walk to sunset beach. She also lent me snorkel gear for free which was great.
When I arrived I was upgraded to a room with hot water and fan, which I had not booked but very much appreciated. The cottage/ bungalow was very sweet, with large bed complete with mosquito net and chairs on the outside balcony area. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and looked brand new and I loved the shower which was surrounded by bamboo screening which made for an interesting experience (I was offered one with a closed in shower but chose this one). Mosquito coils were also lit in the room and bathroom each evening.
The staff, particularly the Chilean manager/ owner were very friendly and helpful. She gave advise on the beaches and snorkelling and also on how to sort out my transfer off of the island. She also ensured that I had a flask of hot water each morning so I could make my own coffee.
The resort is basic and not on the beach front but I preferred the natural setting and the accommodation offered everything I needed, including towels and free wifi. The sheets and bathroom were clean and housekeeping came each day. I would definitely recommend this place to others looking for simple lodgings very reasonably priced.

I stayed for 3 nights at the end of March. I was pleasantly surprised about the atmosphere in the resort. The whole thing is tucked in a pretty corner behind Walking Street with lots of trees and shady places. The staff at the reception were super polite and helpful as well. She always answered all my questions and I saw her doing the same with other guests multiple times.

I had a very basic hut. Bed, Fan, Mosquito Net, not much more. It was cozy and comfortable most of the time and the staff let a slow burning mosquito repellant coil outside every evening. There's a common area with a stocked fridge with cold water, sodas and beer.

There were 2 problems. There was no Air Con in the room, and I knew this when I booked. It was hotter than I thought it would be and the fan wasn't strong enough to create a breeze through the mosquito net. The second thing was the wifi. There was none in my hut, and the wifi in the common area was spotty.

I'd go back, but I'd get an air con room.

Absolutely incredible place with amazing jungle atmosphere. Clean bungalows, beds closed by marleau curtains, nice staff, free coffee and water, cheap beer in the fridge. You can sleep in hammocks and in the morning try to hear the birds singing.

My partner and I were travelling around Malaysia and caught a ferry from Telaga Harbour, Langkawi to Ko Lipe for 5 days of lazing on a beautiful beach with white sands and clear blue water :)

As it was the Chinese New Year holiday season we were a little nervous that Ko Lipe would be very busy and we would have a problem finding accommodation so we booked ahead. We should have waited! There is loads of accommodation on the island, including better and cheaper places that you can just walk into, which is what we will do next time.

Anyway, we booked Gecko Lipe Resort because it is pretty central to everything, located half way along Walking Street which runs across the island. It was easy to find (turn off the main street to a smaller path opposite the Thai Lady Pancake House) and £167 got us a deluxe double bamboo type wooden hut for 5 nights, the deluxe meaning there was a little more space than the standard size. The grounds were lovely with trees and shrubs all round giving the resort a jungle feel.

The hut itself was pretty looking but very basic. There were mats to sit outside front of the hut and staff lit mosquito repellents every evening. It was quite dark inside with only 2 small windows to let in natural light. The bed, the only piece of furniture in the living space, was comfortable and had a mosquito net. There was a fan, but this really didn't keep the room cool. We didn't have a good sleep because of the heat (we know that we definitely need air con next visit) and also because our hut, number 23, was right next to the water pump which is on and off all night making a noise like a loud hairdryer. We were glad that we had earplugs, which helped block the noise. There is also only a thin partition between 'semi detached/ terraced' type huts so you can hear every word your neighbour says and whatever else is going on next door, like camping.

The hut had a couple of shelves to put bits on, 2 plug sockets (2 round pin type) and there was a bathroom attached to the back with clear corrugated plastic roof so it was like having a shower outdoors. The shower was good with plenty of hot water. The staff made up the room every day and renewed the toilet paper and free toiletries.

The nature of the building means that the hut is open to whatever minibeast wants to enter. We found a couple of frogs - bit of a shock when they jump out at you in the night when you are popping to the bathroom - and a large millipede. We ended up with a couple of mossie bites each, but the net over the bed prevented any major damage!

We were given an aluminium flask which could be filled with free water at the resort, and also at other places around the island participating in the scheme to reduce the number of plastic bottles being used - a great idea. It would have been helpful to have been given a list of the places involved rather than only coming upon them by chance.

There was no wifi in the hut and a very intermittent signal in the reception/ dining area. We had breakfast at the resort on 3 mornings. For 2 Thai Baht you could choose from 2 eggs, bacon, toast with coffee/tea, OR banana pancake with latte/cappuchino, OR a bowl of fruit yoghurt and museli with orange juice. All very nice.

The staff did not speak much English and were not particularly friendly or helpful - presumably because the resort was busy and they didn't feel the need to make an effort. They weren't unpleasant, just not bothered.

You weigh up the pros and cons and decide whether this place is for you.

Although it was very sunny and hot at the time we stayed there, and no AC in the room, thanks to the garden, it was cool in the room, so the fan is enough. The guy (the owner, I guess) at the reception was very supportive also. The location is convenient too, it is close to the main beach (pattaya beach), so it did not take us too long to go to the beach for daily tour or go around in the evening to enjoy food and go to bars.
