Yes, It is possible to promote tourism that respects environment being at the same time compatible with the sustainable development of the local communities and its economies. To keep the charming atmosphere of the beach and to avoid mass tourism we bet for not announce us at third parties booking sites, that way we can contain the price inflation due to the high commissions. We rather rely on the "mouth to mouth" power as marketing strategy. Just a 10 minutes walk from our beach to the shopping street and 15 to Sunrise Beach. Koh Lipe is such small island that you won't need more than your feet as transportation mode.

...we were at Sanom Beach - but it was the best time on Koh Lipe!
It's no longer a real insider tip if you reach the small beach via the somewhat hidden footbridge, but thanks to the hotel management, this place is fortunately not littered - like many other places on this island. You can relax wonderfully here and the food is also excellent. This is certainly one of the best addresses on Koh Lipe! We love it!!!

I literally couldn’t have had a better time at Sanom Beach Resort. The location, the quality of the service, the quality of the food, the clean and well maintained bungalow, the professionalism of the staff and the attention to detail were outstanding. On top of that the incomparable Manager Mariona and the owner Jeang really stole my heart…they are something special. Jeang is an original indigenous Chao Ley owner of the land and property…and it was such an honor to be a guest of his resort and to support an original indigenous Chao Ley establishment. We were welcomed like family and they really went the extra mile for us. We spent 2 weeks there and it was hard to leave. We rented the resort’s longtail for an outer island snorkel into lunch on a deserted beach…a trip we have done for many years with different resorts…but nothing comes close to how incredible our trip with them was…ending with fresh squid grilled and served with fried rice on a beautiful beach set up with chairs and beach mats. We were greeted every morning by Jeang and Mariona like we were family. I will always stay at Sanom Beach Resort whenever I am on Koh Lipe…it’s so special.

This quaint little resort is operated by a couple who are independent land owners. They are amazing hosts and always there to assist or advise. The accommodations are more than satisfactory and are clean and well appointed. The food is very good. The absolute only drawback is that there is no air conditioning. The fans supplied do help but we found sleeping a bit difficult. I would definitely stay there again but a small air conditioning unit would be most appreciated. Thank you again for being such great hosts.

We stayed there for 3 nights and it was a very unpleasant stay. The owner is very lazy, unfriendly and even blame their customers. The bungalows are not well maintained, very dirty and the bathroom smells like hell!

Our bungalow was not cleaned when we arrived and the dirty toiletseat was one of the worst we ever came across during travelling.

One day during showering, there was no water anymore and my wife had to wait 45 minutes, the body covered with soap until the water problem was solved.

We had to pay the hole amount in advance (in high season around 70$ per night) to make the reservation. As customer you have no chance to pay less if the service is not fulfilled. You have to pay as well a cleaning fee, which is used for the beach and not for the bungalow as we thought.

The resort is embedded in a beatiful scenery with a very nice beach. Thats the main factor why this resorts still exists.

But we highly recommend to look for another place on Koh Lipe because you find much nicer stays for this amount of money.

After having travelled southeast asia for five month and having spent between 12 and 60 Dollars for the guesthouses we stayed at (the one for 60 Dollars was deluxe) we arrived at Sanom Beach Resort. We had to pay the whole amount for our stay in advance to secure our booking, since it was peak time we paid 70 Dollars per night. Sanom Beach is probably the nicest beach on the island!!! That's probably why the customers pay that much for a beach bungalow.... The bungalow itself is worth 20 dollars the most! The bathroom has no window, therefore it remains moisty and really stinks. There is not even a soap provided for this price nor was there any small bottle of drinking water in the room (what we got in every other place, no matter how cheap it was). We don't need the towels to be exchanged every day, but to give you the full picture: They were not exchanged during our four day stay. The room was never cleaned and nobody collected the trash. I think its not exaggerated to expect only a little bit of service for such a price. And not to forget: On top of the bungalow price every one has to pay a cleaning fee of 500 baht!! I have never experienced such a thing! But our room didn't even look cleaned when we arrived: The ventilator looked as if it has never been cleaned in all its lifetime, the shelves (or wanna be shelves) were dusty as if they haven't been cleaned for at least a month...! The problem is that all the customers pay in advance therefore they have the money already without doing anything...

From the reviews we expected something simple - but this place was not only simple, it was cheap. And besides of it being cheap it was dirty. We felt really uncomfortable because of the dirty place and because of being ripped off. Even with the lovely beach, we would NOT recommend this place and would NOT go back.

Good points: Beautiful little bay.

That's about it. The beach suffers from the long tail boats passing from Pattaya Beach from about 8:30am until approximately 10:00am and then the hoards arrive from the neighboring beach to find serenity and end up crowding it anyway. We did stay here during peak season (Xmas) so it may be quieter during other periods of the year. We have friends who have said they can't recognize this Koh Lipe from the island they visited 5 years ago...it seems it's going through a surge in popularity and this has unfortunately affected the area, especially with litter and noise from the bars on Pattaya Beach. The litter on the beach itself is picked up every morning, but they seem to ignore the rocky areas where it collects. Sanom Beach pretty much close their bar/restaurant from 5:30pm onwards. The rooms were basic and too expensive for what you got compared to other similar beaches in Thailand. The staff were nice enough but we were disappointed that we weren't offered a refund for our laundry as the laundry service they used ruined 3 of my wife's t-shirts. Complacency is Thailand's worst enemy right now - I've found that most resorts on a beautiful beach tend to sit back and nonchalantly let the beauty do the work for them and therefore the service suffers. Unfortunately, it seems this may carry on into the future until Burma open their islands and give Thailand the competition it needs.

We stayed at Sanom Beach over Christmas for 5 nights. Unfortunately, we didn't find the peaceful paradise we were expecting. The beach is small and there is very little seating provided. The beach became very crowded during the day by people coming over from the main beach. There is very little seating provided and this was always taken over by non-residents. The bungalow we stayed in was extremely basic with absolutely no character. The bedroom had formica walls which could have done with a good clean. The view of the beach was blocked by a self-seeding tree which was a shame. Looking down from the bungalow we saw litter amongst the rocks together with a large piece of broken asbestos roofing material, wonderful for the enviroment! At night instead of listening to the sound of the sea we were kept awake by the music coming from the bars on the main beach.
Before staying at this resort we had stayed on Phi Phi island at the Relax Beach Resort, where we paid exactly the same price per night but the resort on Phi Phi was ten times better. The staff were friendly enough but not very professional. The laundry service provided is not recommended as three tee shirts belonging to my niece came back covered with orange rust marks. Instead of apologising and offering to replace the cost of the tee shirts, the manager just remarked that something like that had never happened before and she didn't know what to say about it - my niece received 100 baht compensation (approx 2.50 euros). I really can't understand why this resort ranks number 2 on Koh Lipe, there are much nicer places to stay. In fact, we do intend returning to Koh Lipe, which is a beautiful island, but we will stay on Sunrise Beach (probably at the Lipe Beach Resort) because the beach is stunning and not overcrowded like Sunset beach.

I've just returned from Sanom Beach. What can I say? returned? Let's say I have physically returned but, in reality my mind and heart is still there.
I arrived in Ko Lipe together with 3 friends after a long trip searching for a place that would have made me feel good and my first impressions of the island were not the best. We disembarked on Pattaya Beach and I found myself among 10 or more boats that were unloading tourists. No, even that wasn't the place that I was looking for. The bungalows that we had booked on our departure from Koh Lanta were dilapidated and so our search for new accommodation started once more.
At the end of the beach there was a suspended wooden walkway that followed around the rocks. Being as curious as I am, I started to follow the wooden walkway and suddenly the doors to paradise opened before me! At the end of the walkway there were some steps that took me up to Sanom Beach where the welcoming smile of Cheng was there to greet me. The beach there is clean, quiet and definitely less busy. There are 7 bungalows, basic and certainly not luxurious but here, at Sanom Beach, luxury is something else!

It's waking up at dawn, getting out of bed and diving into that crystal clear and warm sea. It's lying on the white sand while sipping on a cold beer. It's asking for anything you need and finding your request always met with a smile! It's going to bed, rocked by the gentle sound of the waves and the breeze...
The Staff are simply fantastic! They call you by name and after just one day I already felt like I was member of their family!
For lunch, they have a series of excellent Thai dishes and for two evenings they prepared a barbecue on the beach for us with fish freshly caught by themselves and cooked to perfection.
Thank you Cheng, Mariona and Miquel and the rest of the team of staff, you really made me feel fantastic. So good that you are in my heart and I can't wait to come back and stay with you. And it may be sooner than you think...

A big hug

Marina

Lovely little white beach. Tends to get overcrowded, with day trippers from Pattaya beach. Good snorkelling. Accommodation expensive, considering : basic bamboo hut, no flush toilet, no top sheet, nylon bottom sheet, broken outside tap, bathroom light not working, restaurant closes at 4pm.. Over relaxed management. The little communal space there is, is taken over by them and you feel as if you are intruding if you ask for anything. The place has no soul. If it was half the price, all this would not matter but we felt fleeced, especially when we were charged extra for a few spoons of honey on our muesli!

This is a " get away from it all"resort, on a beautiful beach in a national park, but it will be increasingly overpriced as this island is slowly turning into another Phuket.
The stay is overpriced for the standard of accomodation, but the snorkeling is fantastic off that beach and all the others on Ko Lipe. You will appreciate the beach views and the exceptional sound of the waves from your bungalow if you opt for those.
Access to this resort at low tide is difficult and not all water taxis accept to take you there.
Going to dinner to Pattaya beach over the plank walkway is part of the experience, the skies full of stars and bars on the beach very enjoyable. Nonetheless, you just have to keep complaining to the owners of Akira restaurant and DJ if you cannot sleep until 2 am some nights... this is an ongoing problem, the police is obviously turning a blind eye, and Thai corruption is spoiling an amazing island.
The owners can sometimes be very helpful, we stayed in two different bungalows and one of them (no 1) had such a hard bed it was impossible to sleep.
