My husband & I along with my sister and her husband came to Thailand to meet with friends from home (Canada). She is from Thailand so we wanted to experience her culture. They brought us to this resort and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for all the comforts of home you will find very little. If you are looking for home this may not be the place for you. If you are looking to experience different then this is the place for you. The cabins were quaint, the breakfasts provided at the resort were amazing, the views stunning, the food in the community along the walking road was fantastic. If you go straight to the end of the road, the family run restaurant is amazing. Ask the locals where they would go. That is where you find the best food. Do not be deterred by appearances. We were here for 4 days and enjoyed every moment. Only thing I would suggest is not to come in April unless you love extreme heat!!! Thank you Koh Lipe for a great time!!

We found paradise! The beach, the food, and the snorkeling were amazing. We were perfectly accommodated at Chareena Hill! We started each day with a delicious breakfast and every night returned to our clean, air conditioned, and comfortable room. The staff were warm and welcoming. Koh Lipe is such a gem!

Context: Paid equivalent of USD310 per night. Another family paid USD145 per night. In 3 months we've been to Kuta, Ubud, Perth, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, Lombok and Koh Lipe so we are familiar with hotels and travelling. Were forced to sign a contract saying we wouldn't leave negative reviews! Room: No hot water, no shower pressure, shower glass door missing, cobwebs (not cleaned for months), broken sink, sea view 90% blocked, filthy hotel, trash everywhere, mosquitos everywhere but no spray. Not what you expect for the money. By the way, the walk to the room was so high, we were tired and sweaty every time we got to the room! Service: Good before check in. However, when raising the problems, I was told by the WhatsApp team to 'leave and go somewhere else' rather than fix them. Was literally told to get out rather than fix the water et al! WiFi wasn't working so I asked by WhatsApp to restart the router. Lady receptionists KaTa didn't reply and instead, banged on my door shouting at 7.55 and woke up my kids. KaTa was so rude throughout our stay, shouting when you phone reception, being abusive, lying (we were refused a kayak claiming it was broken, but the guy downstairs let us use two of them)! She was just plain horrible and didn't speak English either. We were also promised before coming and after check in that they'd provide a sunset meal as it was my wife's birthday and wedding anniversary. It was all booked, even the menu and time. However, on the day, they refused to honour it. I have it in writing, and it wasn't provided. Major issue: On first night I met the manager Toi and asked him to get the water fixed. He was lovely, respectful and understanding. He also offered me to cancel and refund the booking and rebook at a much lower rate (initially he said he couldn't discount as I'd paid, but then I raised that the WhatsApp team had already told me they'd cancel, which meant they could!). I agreed. The next morning, after the lady woke us up at 7.55am, I went to sort it. However, when I tried to pay directly, the owner (via phone) refused and the receptionist told us to get out. The guy there Book (he was there the night before and with a vile smirk, was very abusive) was so nasty. He was vile, insulting, called me an Arab (I'm not) and said he didn't care and refused to let us pay and stay. We had 3 nights left in Koh Lipe, the island was fully booked and I was with kids and they were kicking us out! My wife had to come and plead and try and sort it but I was just told the manager didn't agree and we had to get out and sleep on the beach for all they cared! The manager Toi called tourist police who got involved and apologised to me. After this, I managed to pay the booking and keep. My reservation. I heard Toi tell tourist police 'the guest did nothing wrong, it's not a big deal, how dare the owner just kick them out' but the owner didn't care. I saw the tourist police twice after and he was apologetic and even took a photo with my kids and I. And yet, the owner of the hotel was insisting on kicking us out. I never received an apology for being treated this way and owner kept on this grudge by not letting use facilities, or dinner. On my wife's birthday night I asked Book if he could at least put some cheap cake in the room for when we came back and he flat out refused. On several occasions the manager came to me, swearing about the owner's daughter., saying how she was stupid and how dare they try and kick guests out and he even told me to leave feedback and contact the police to have this resort shut down! The manager actually said 'she treated you like garbage' and did a kicking gesture, all whilst he tried to look after us with the owner fighting his every move! This resort deserves to be shut down. It isn't worth the price at all anyway, and the service is abysmal. Don't be fooled by the fake photos online, or of their false kindness before you check in. Go elsewhere. In all of my travels, I've never had any hotel treat me, my wife and my kids in this way. They made our holiday a nightmare, ruined my wife's birthday, our wedding anniversary, broke promises, lies, wouldn't let us sleep, tried to kick us out, needed police intervention, wouldn't let us use facilities, were nasty and rude, treated us like garbage - all for a high price in a run down resort. If you're wondering about the good reviews, we were threatened that if we left a negative review or complained, we'd be kicked out or worse, and no refund, and no help in getting off the island, and were forced to sign a contract to that effect! So don't believe it, we probably aren't the only ones! I will say something positive. The restaurant is fantastic, as is the restaurant staff. Mr Toi is a true gentleman and actually saved our holiday. If it wasn't for him, we may actually have had my young kids sleeping 3 days on the beach in the blistering heat without beds! Free water is useful. That's about it. A massive 1* and I hope this review deters people, and action is taken!

Stayed here 4 nights and we loved it. Staff was great, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was super, a little bit of everything and the chef (who by the way was super charming) was manning an egg station with a variety of choices to order. Room was nice and clean, good air conditioning. Amazing view from the balcony with our private hammock and small table with chairs. We liked the fact that the place was located in the end of the beach and on the hillside as this made it calmer and gave us some space from the quite busy beach area closer to the walking street. Good to know, as the place is on a hillside, there are a lot of stairs. Staff was helpful and carried the luggage up and down these. Bathroom was a bit worn down but ok. Only thing that could have been better was that Wi-Fi was slow, this however led to us spending more time in the hammock reading books and talking to each other.

The experience was awful. The only positive thing was the staff, ladies were extremely helpful and they were changing our rooms at 1 am haha. We got our superior sea view room and the door wasn’t locking. They were fixing the problem 4 times but finally they fixed it. Unfortunately that wasn’t the only problem. We saw maybe 10 lizards all together. Our roof had 2 big holes to the outside which crated a path for lizards. Also the bathroom was covered in spider webs and had holes in the roof too so we saw there a lizard. After few attempts to get rid of the insects we changed rooms. That didn’t solve a problem. In other room there was also a big hole in the wall/ceiling and we saw a lizard crawling from there. Bathroom was the same condition as in the previous room. I would say even worse because water coming out of the sink was brown and smelly. It generally smelled like rotten eggs in the whole hotel, dining area in particular. Breakfast was terrible and there were a lot of ants walking on the food displayed at the buffet table. The hotel has a great potential and it looks amazingly pretty from the outside also the view is outstanding but it is definitely badly maintained. Just few simple touch ups to cover the holes would be great so there would be no insects. The experience was so awful that we decided to leave after one day. The staff were really trying to help with the problems and they even offered us a free taxi to our new hotel. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel because the view isn’t everything.

We booked a room/chalet for my wife , son and myself here. Room was spacious with a fantastic view from our balcony overlooking the Andaman Sea. Air con, nice bathroom etc. Breakfast was very good, food was varied and plentiful. Self service style in a beautiful eating area. Room service is available. The chalets are built on the side of a steep slope and rooms accessible via precipitous stairs only, so not suitable for people with walking/access issues. Overall great value for money IMO and provided a very memorable holiday! Never been here before, but would highly recommend.

The best part of Chareena Hill is the view from the balcony. The rooms are fairly basic. There's nothing special about the breakfasts, but the food off the menu was tasty. It's a short walk to Walking Street, but far enough away to not be bothered by the noise.

Unfortunately they're charging rates that are simply not applicable to their hotel conditions. There are worn out stairs, ants, sewage smell, our sliding glass entry door was dislodged from the frame and wouldn't lock (they did come and fix it). Additionally, we were there for 5 nights and they literally didn't come to clean our room or check in with us once. We finally asked for more toilet paper and trash bags. We could go on and on. I feel sad about this review because the staff was trying really hard but they couldn't make up for the poor conditions of this hotel. If they were charging much less our expectations would have been aligned.

When entering our room I was struck by the good look and scent of a very clean room. After our first night I must post this review after reading earlier review about sewage smell! The sewage on this tiny island isn’t 100% top modern, tourist flush paper and issues appear. There’s no issue with strong smell when writing this on december 31 / january 1. So I guess the plumber has fixed the problem in room 2006. The stairs are a challenge indeed! Irregular, sometimes steep or leaning. But we found the shortcut to the beach passing room 203 to be very nice indeed and after adjusting our wifi to connect with restaurant the younger son is also happy staying here! The breakfast buffet was a nice suprise, since we got the impression that breakfast wasn’t included. Eggstation was great. I appreciated the seabreeze when having breakfast. Our view from balcony was the best on Lipe when the new year 2023 greeted us with the fireworks from Sita resort next to us. Some loud beach club music reached us but we could sleep anyhow. The staff is kind and good! Today we received a lovely new years greeting with a card and homemade cake. The bumpy road is a heaven in dry december comparing to state of the roads when rainy season is doing it’s work. Then you must get of the ride and push! You get stuck in the mud! In general the waste management has been a headache for Koh lipe for a long time. To many visitors on a tiny island. But as a guest I try to contribute by not littering and avoid touching so not destroying nature in sea or on land. I recomend Chareena hillside for people enjoying a balcony with views and a private feeling when watching the world go by. I spotted some lovely birds just next to the bungalow! Maybee a kingfisher! I would’t recomend this hotel for partypeople or familys with small kids or disabled.
