Simple, clean, Japanese style tatami room. The owner was extremely accommodating and even filled our wet shoes with newspaper to dry them after a day hiking in the rain! We did not get meals here as we booked late however found the local restaurant had simple tasty meals that were cheap. Great location opposite Tsuboyu onsen and two mins from...

I have to say that we did not have much expectation about Minshuku Atarashiya, as reviews by previous customers have been mixed, and the more recent one are actually quite negative. Worn-out equipment. Smelly cupboard. No English channel. No English speaking staff. Very poor conditions in common bathroom and WC area. Rusty valves. Undersized, mini slippers. Impolite, not flexible owner. Noisy room. We would not recommend it. Note: Unfriendly staff in the village shop.

It is across the road from Tsuboyu Onsen, towards the top of the main road in this delightfully quaint town in this beautiful part of Wakayama-ken. Our host was extremely pleasant, helpful, and even went so far as to walk us to...

“The last bus to Yunomine leaves the terminal at the Shingu train station at 4 pm. Try to get there before then.”
