My wife and I bid on a five day, five night stay at Playa Viva at a silent auction for a tremendous environmental organization -- Green Corps -- knowing only that it was in the proximity of Zihuatanejo of Shawshank Redemption lore. We were delighted with what we found. Beautiful open-aired, thatched-roof huts on the ocean. Healthy, locally-grown food that...

Playa Viva is a specialty/boutique hotel located about 45 minutes south of the Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo airport. They're also located a world away from the hassles of the Zihuatenejo marketplace or the manicured tourist experience of Ixtapa. The trip to the hotel is a little rough thru the town of Petatlan, but the moment you walk towards the beach, you realize that...

Every one of our seven days at Playa Viva we experienced magic. The moment that we arrived at the property Julia greeted us with such warmth that we felt as if we were home. Immediately she showed us around and to our eco casita that is undeniably one of the most well thought through structures we have ever seen. Walls...

I was absolutely blown away by my experience at Playa Viva. It was the perfect combination of relaxation, rejuvinating yoga and massages, individualized options for various adventures, AMAZING food and the friendliest service I have ever encountered. My husband and I are very picky eaters and look for organic, high quality food. The chef was amazing and the options and...

This beachfront property cannot do enough to convey its offerings. It would be impossible to promote an experience where you have all the luxury you could ever need (brand new lodging, impeccably clean facilities with round the clock upkeep and yes brand new clean bathrooms) with all the escape you could ever imagine. When Wednesday goes like this: wake up...

If you want to shed your regular routine, fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, eat delicious organically grown and home cooked gourmet food, help new born turtles make it safely to the ocean, swim in the salt pool by the ocean at night, enjoy smores by the bond fire and get some yoga and massages in between.....then this...

If you want a true experience of getting away from it all - Playa Viva is the place to go! We went with a 15yr old, 14yr old and an 11yr old with the intent of disconnecting to reconnect. We arrived phone and computer free and the experience would have been EVEN better, if all the other guests had done...

We’ve been home from Playa Viva for 2 weeks now. I’m starting to wonder if it was a dream… Did we really spend 5 days lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean each night, after eating deliciously prepared, fresh food for every meal? Did we really release newly-hatched baby turtles onto the beach each evening? Did I really...

To find the place was a bit hard, it is far off from everything, and eventually that turned out to be the best thing. There is pick up and drop off offered, take advantage of it, because they know their way around. The beautifully and sustainably designed hotel with several different room options is right by the long stretched beach....

Our family of four - including boys 11 and 15 - just spent a wonderful week in Playa Viva. What we found was the ideal combination of memorable activities and simply doing 'nothing at all'. The 'nothing' included endless hours of reading, playing in the ocean (warm), cooling off at the pool, visiting with the few other guests and delicious...
