Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such an incredible place with equally incredible staff. We felt immediately like we were part of a family and so well taken care of. Staff went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met and they also provided wonderful suggestions and knowledge of the area. You'll come for the snow and stay for the staff.

Where do I start to explain the amazing location, facilities and hospitality this lodge provides. Myoko itself is a must for Skiers and borders who are visiting Japan and this lodge has everything you need to make your trip that much better. The recently renovated lodge has maintained a traditional Japanese feel while providing all the creature comforts you will need. Wake up to a beautifully prepared breakfast each morning, perfectly timed to ensure you don't miss those first tracks. While the Akakura Ski lifts are right at your doorstep there is also a range of other fantastic ski fields extremely close by. Should you decide to go exploring for the day the lodge operates a free shuttle service that will drop you off and pick you up. At the end of a long day skiing the common area is a perfect place to relax and meet other likeminded travelers. There is also a fully equipped gym and a weekly lodge dinner (Don't miss the dinner, it may have been the best Okonomiyaki I had while visiting Japan). The lodge is also a small walk into the main street of Akakura with a wide variety, or restaurants, bars & shopping to enjoy during your stay. A big thank you to Ed, Tay, Ash & Evie for making my stay so fantastic. I can't wait to come back again!!

The first of many trips to Myoko and the Ikigai lodge! Recently renovated and the perfect combination of original tatami rooms and western rooms to suit your preference! Everything was super clean, and very easily accessible not to mention its in the perfect location, just a short stroll from town and across the road from 2 resorts! Nothing was ever to much trouble; the staff were beautiful and the other guests were all legends! Looking forward to making it a yearly tradition!

Freshly renovated in a thoughtful, practical and aesthetic manner, the Lodge was a great base for accessing the various resorts around Mount Myoko. Would highly recommend it to others, especially the Okonomiyaki served for ‘family dinner night’. Staff accommodating of dietary requirements of some members of our group. (Celiac, vegan) Thanks to staff Tay, Ed, Ash and Evie for making us feel at home.

I Stayed last month and absolutely loved it. The amount of detail that has gone into making the lodge a perfect getaway is amazing. The location is seconds from the ski resort and a short walk from the gondola and the cute little town. Every morning my gear was dry and ready to go, there was facilities and all the gear I needed to tune my boards and gear. Coming back after a hard days riding was met with a welcoming family atmosphere and smiles from ear to ear. there is everything you could possibly need and more. Everything was comfy and not an issue for a tall person like myself. This crew genuinely wants to share the stoke with you. I'll be back next year for sure. This would suits solo travelers, families (very family friendly lodge and ski resort for that matter) and everyone in between. Can't wait until next season.

20 of us (10 adults / 10 teenagers) hired the whole Lodge for a week in January 2023 and had a fantastic time. Booking and pre-arrival arrangements were dealt with quickly and efficiently by Benny. The Lodge rooms and facilities were clean, spacious and having an en-suite or private bathroom for every room was great. Apres drinks in the lounge every afternoon was good. The Lodge location was fantastic, being walking distance to several ski lifts, ski rentals (Myoko Snowsports), onsens, restaurants and bars in the lovely village of Akakura Onsen. Beds were comfortable, bring your ear plugs though as the snow ploughs start out early in Akakura - but if they’re out that’s a good sign of lots of snow. Staff this season included the lovely Ed & Tayla - Ed being a physio which was great as we could book a massage and he could advise on injuries etc. Laundry, drying room, kids chill out room with TV and gym in the Lodge. Drying room heating was sometimes switched off early which we had to raise with the owner to ensure our gear was dry for the next day. If you have dietary requirements/preferences make sure the owners are aware and can talk to the chef about them to ensure your needs are met during your stay. Great accommodation and will definitely be back! Thanks Benny, Masa and the Ikigai team.

All in all a great experience. Terrific staff and the breakfasts are excellent. Very comfortable lodge and centrally located to main ski runs of Onsen and kanko. The village Akakura is beautiful. Our host at the lodge Masa was extremely friendly and welcoming. Always eager to please with shuttles to other mountains and logistical issues like my daughter losing her mobile phone. Improvements could be made with the drying room plus there is no heating in the stair area between the rooms and common areas. We will Definitely return

The lodge and rooms themselves are beautiful, minimal in a tasteful way, modern and very clean. Equipped with a great drying room, a fully equipped gym and the most incredible, helpful and hospital staff I've ever met. There also is an in-house masseuse and physiotherapist and he is so so wonderful. The location is also great, right in town. Honestly, just the best place I've ever stayed, I will definitely be back.

Loved our familiy stay at Ikigai. Lodge was spotless , beds super comfortable but what makes it special is the staff. Could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was fantastic and changed daily and the lodge dinner was supperb. Great that they have a gym in the basement and all ski lifts and restaurants within a 5 min walk. Would highly rate the lodge and will be definitely coming back.

The views from ikigai lodge and little village of Akakura onsen is awesome, we stayed in the Deluxe Family Suite and cannot wait to return. The ski fields are right opposite the lodge so perfect for those deep days to get first lifts.
