The staff of a hotel often more than makes up for the lack of amenities. They're friendly English speaking and always fast to attend to your needs. This is a ryokan and you may have to look elsewhere if you are after an attached lounge, a bar or a gym. But we were there for the sole purpose of snowboarding...

Dinner here was organised by a friend staying as a hotel guest. Possibly the best 3500Y I spent during my recent trip to Japan. Eight courses over several hours. Prepared with meticulous care and served by courteous staff in a traditional setting. A couple of the 'subject to change' items were especially delicious. Green tea brûlée and a delicate milk...

We are a family of four who stayed here for 6 nights while skiiing. We could not fault this hotel/ryokan. Firstly, the location is amazing. It is right in the middle of Myoko. The staff are all lovely and very helpful. We had two traditional rooms which were spacious and comfortable. We made good use of the onsens - and...

Three of us stayed in a traditional room for five nights. It was spacious and comfortable and very convenient - close to the chairlift and stores. A few staff spoke very good English and we were able to communicate reasonably well with the other staff. We had breakfast at the hotel each morning and had dinner there one night -...

We had a week here in January 2017, during which a stunning 3.2 metres of fresh snow fell. The Furuya is the best location in town, with the nearest lift being about 2 mins walk, and 3 gear rental places within a stone's throw. The bus terminal is about 150m away. It has a supermarket 2 doors down. On request...

Great location, awesome rooms and excellent staff. Would recommend. Great ski locker, breakfast buffet pretty good. 8 course dinner was best dinner of trip. Expensive but rooms were spacious and combo of 2 Western beds in 1 room and Japanese mats for one of 2 lounges. 100m walk to lifts.

It had all the traditional amenities of a good ryokan, old world and beautifully maintained, yet modern enough with everything you need for a ski trip. Because we stayed here for almost a week, the simple (and clean) bath halls became a bit boring, as were the delicious but repeated breakfasts. If you are staying long, don't book all your...

Okay so lovely place very japanese feel beautiful western japanese room and lovely onsens. However the hosts and staff went above and beyond and showed incredible kindness and help when I broke my ankle day1 skiing. I didn't go to the hospital (thought it was just a soft tissue injury) but the hosts helped me buy crutches, gave me ice...

We have stayed at the Furuya for 3 years in a row and always look forward to returning to the wonderful service, food, onsen, privacy, respect and gorgeous rooms. Initially we booked into the Western room but have decided that we prefer the traditional Japanese. We always feel so welcome and the owners have gone beyond expectations to help us...

I traveled here with a group of eight friends. It was perfect. Walking distance to the chair lift. Excellent breakfast. Warm onsen - great after a day of snow boarding . The hotel has everything you need for a snow trip. I couldn't recommended them more. I think its one of the nicest hotels in Myoko. Staff were friendly. They...
