We arrived here for our third night on the Nakasendo trail, arriving in Narai from the Tori Pass around 3 p.m. - not a sinner in sight! We did find a café/bar open, so had several beers before heading for Iseya. We had two adjoining rooms just above the front door, up a flight of dark wooden steps. The rooms...

This is one of the best inns to stay in when you visit Narai. Facilities, service and food are excellent. You need to go make sure you book early as this Inn usually gets booked up first as it is very popular given that it has the best facilities in Narai.

Our room in Iseya was quite comfortable, though there are mosquitoes in the garden and the mosquito screens in the bedroom did not fit properly so this could be an issue for some. The futons were fine but the pillows were traditional (ie they felt as if they were filled with ceramic baking beans) and I found them very uncomfortable....

From the outside this ryokan looks really small but walking through the front part of the building, came to a beautifully manicured garden which is a surprise. Then we reached the annexed building at the back when our room is located. There are a couple of inconveniences. If it rains, you need to carry an umbrella between our room and...

Nice clean and warm inn. The guy that greeted us could be a little warmer. Amenities was adequate but needs a little effort from oneself. For example making your own futon ... Else decent place for a night.

We stayed for one night here. Our host was very welcoming and spoke very good English. The property is lovely - really historic, with a beautiful pond and gardens in the middle of it. The food was traditional Japanese, and there was a large array of small dishes of different foods, so there's plenty of variety to try. We were...

We arrived at the village of Narai after having crossed the Torii-pass. It was quite easy to find the inn as it's name is written also in English. We were early (check-in time is 15:00) so we took some time to explore the shops and little cafes on the main street. At this time of year (late June) the place...

Coming from a three-hour train ride from Tokyo, it was really heartwarming to stay in a historic and rustic place like this. From the Narai train station, it was a 10-minute leisurely walk, with frequent stops to check out the shops or to ask for directions from the locals -- who were always very willing to help. This minshuku is...

I feel that we did not have much of a choice of accomodation in Narai and iseya appears to be one of the larger establishments in Narai. Although quite sizable for a ryokan, the food prepared appeared to be largely canned food or overly matinated food ( orange slice in jelly, marinated whole fish). My largest gripe is tha a...

We found this lovely quaint stay via tripadvisor & the place do not disappoint. The host were marvellous people & speaks good English. The home cooked meal was amazing & so delicious. Even the shared bath was a very pleasant surprise, we love the deep wooden bath with ever-flowing hot spring water. Such a deep soak, completely refreshes, both body...
