If you are visiting Namakwaland to see the flowers, it is a trick to find acoommodation. During week-ends the popular places are booked long in advance. If you live in CT you wait for perfect weather and start driving whenever it fits in with the rest of your life. Surprise to find this lovely guesthouse, we stayed in Hendrikshof, plus...

Our campsite at Olive Caravan Park in Nieuwoudtville was rustic - set amongst the flowers and ruins of early settlers buildings, made of sandstone dating back to 1750.The ruins and guesthouses ( restored stone buildings) on site , led to the charm of the campsite - along with flowers growing throughout, and the peacocks wandering around. The birdlife was wonderful....

Firstly if you go in flower season and want self catering Accomodation book at least 4 to 6 months in advance. The cottages are fairly basic but have most of the things you need for your catering equipment. Beds are reasonable but blankets and throws are tired! The gardens and surrounds are overgrown and unkempt and much of the furniture...

We stayed at the Môreson cottage for one night. It is a quaint and cosy little cottage with everything you need provided. The kitchen is fully stocked and the beds, although very hard, have electric blankets. In a beautiful little garden five peacocks sings you to sleep at night and wakes you up in the morning, it was quite romantic....

Quaint old houses in a small Hantam town is not as romantic as you may think. Leaking toilets, light switches that doesn't work, uncomfortable beds, poorly appointed kitchens, barbecues that have not been cleaned, rusted bbq grids and a leaking water heater did not do it for us. And it is costly too. Maybe someone should put some money back...

Our party of 6 were booked into Hendikshof cottage. A marvelous old renovated 3 bed roomed house with wonderful attention to detail with great touches of local history and memorabilia. Three very friendly peacocks added to the charm in the ramshackle back garden of the cottage. We could have self catered but decided to eat the Smitswinkel Restaurant, a simple...

We left as very dissatisfied customers, as the accommodation was above average cost for the area and was the poorest we had experienced. We had to contend with broken patio furniture, door and cupboards without knobs which made them difficult to open, no hanging space in one bedroom, broken wall heater, and very uncomfortable beds. The cottage was self catering...

We stayed in the Waenhuis. It is what it is - no airs and graces. Clean and functional. Good heating for the winter and electric blankets which were welcome. Plenty of space. We thought it was a good base from which to explore the flowers and value for money. The flowers were fabulous.

We stayed at the Waenhuis. It was mostly clean and neat, but stank of cigarettes. The owner was not in town this time, but on previous a visit he was very knowlegable and helpful. The area ia well worth a visit even out of flower season.

Whatever you do do not get accommodated in the loft room above the Smitswinkel restaurant which is part of the Van Zijl guesthouse complex. Two seniors were checked in there only to find that to reach our room we had to climb a nearly vertical set of steps. Once at the top the security gate opens outwards resulting in a...
