Loved spending hours sat on our porch looking out over the Kalametiya bird reserve. The rooms are simple but has everything you need for a restful stay. There is no AC but a portable fan- some nights where very warm, but we were used to this- not sure everyone would find it as easy to cope with. We had the... More

Next to the beautiful bird reserve and one of the most secret hidden beach in Sri Lanka, even though the waves are more rough than in other places in the West. We could cook on our own and if you feel like you could help fishermen pulling their net in exchange of what they'll give you free fishes. The room... More

We made our second visit to Taragala Place in February 2014. The fact that we returned indicates that we really like the place; we were just as impressed the second time. It really is a fabulous place to stay if you like very quiet, close to nature isolation. We made some advanced preparations based on our previous stay mainly by... More

Sri Lanka was my home for 9 years until 2003 and since then I have been visiting twice a year. I think it fair to say that I have travelled throughout most of the island and have watched it suffering during wartime, struggling to recover from the tsunami and now emerging with a confidence that is great to see. In... More

First of all, the location is spectacular, right near the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, at the edge of a traditional Sri Lankan village (Kalametiya), at about 4 km from the main road. The villagers are really friendly, so please be careful to smile and say hello to anyone. Don't worry, they won't ask you money for various "services" as it happens... More

Pretty cottages on the edge of the bird reserve. The 2 cottages feature a small basic kitchen, cold showers, comfortable beds and electricity for fans and lighting. Magdelena was on hand to make sure we got the best out of our stay, suggesting walks and local boat trips and was extremely helpful. Sri lankan food is available during your stay.... More

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Taragala Place in March 2013. The bungalow is built in traditional style which very much attracted us and it was extremely interesting. It had windows and doors open to every direction to catch the slightest breeze. There is no air conditioning but a powerful electric fan maintained a reasonable cool whilst sleeping.... More
