We had the pleasure of staying in room 9 recently, and what a treat it was! The room was beautiful; tastefully decorated, with mood lighting and all the mod cons, whilst maintaining all of its historical charm. Our bathroom was also very nicely done out, with robes and lotions and potions too. We really enjoyed sitting by the fire in...

My husband and I recently spent 6 nights at Old Downton Lodge and it was the perfect location for exploring Ludlow, Shropshire and the surrounding area. Our room was in a renovated farm building with a wonderful cathedral beamed ceiling and stone walls. The bathroom was well appointed with thick towels and robes, and luxury bath soaps. The decor was...

Our stay at the lodge was made memorable due to the fantastic food, wonderful staff and gorgeous location. The room was spacious and quiet and the garden was perfect for relaxing in with drinks from the bar. Cannot recommend highly enough for a special weekend away.

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at Old Downton Lodge. We had been wanting to stay there for a while and was definitely worth the wait! Wonderfully kind hosts who did all they could to help us and the 5 course taster menu along with their choice of wine with each course was a delight. Well done...

First I must thank Pippa again for picking up my wife who, due to the sun and steep hills, became unwell during our walk..thanks Pippa! We stayed here on the 11th & 12th May, the hosts Pippa & Willem are naturals to the job, welcoming, friendly and very efficient as are the staff. The hotel itself is stunning, laid out...

Set in gorgeous countryside the lodge has lovely grounds, and from the minute you arrive you get a personal service, being welcomed as you arrive, offers to help with...

It is a real joy to find somewhere to stay where people care - about the environment they work in, the service they give, the food they serve and most importantly about you. Largely driven from the top, Willam and Pippa and those working with them, have somehow managed to achieve this. The surroundings are beautiful with great attention to...

Old Downton Lodge provides a perfect setting - fabulous buildings, beautifully appointed bedrooms, fantastic food and drink and wonderful service. We arrived mid afternoon and were greeted warmly, shown around and then served tea and biscuits. After a long walk in the surrounding countryside we changed ready for the evening. We had a sumptuous 7 course tasting menu with 5...

Unbelievable experience. From start to finish. The grounds are stunning. The welcome from Villem, who says he knows nothing about wine but I think he is a dark horse!! The dining room is like a medieval banquet room. Beautifully laid out. The food? Oh my word. Karl and gang are seriously on to something here. Food is at such a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fascinating. Intriguing. Mesmeric. Pure escapism just seven miles from Ludlow, in some respects, Old Downton Lodge defies description: It is not a hotel, nor is it really a bed and breakfast or a restaurant with rooms. Each of the nine bedrooms are unforgettable – stylishly converted from historic farm buildings surrounding a flower bedecked courtyard, each is quirky, luxurious, packed with history and designed to make you smile. The hospitality is relaxed and genuine. The food – served in a dramatic dining hall - is exceptional and the wine list inspired. ... more   less
