Stayed at this place with 7 people total, plus 2 friends who booked separately. The cabins were good - nice grounds, acceptable cleanliness, liked the location on an island a quick $1 water taxi ride from Bocas town (Isla Colon). Based on lots of experience living and traveling in Central America, it was overpriced - 7 people in 1 room,...

This is an ideal location as far as getting around to other places in the water taxi and walking the island. The rooms were lacking space for our clothes. The two closets were used for a TV, that took up the space and a refrigerator and microwave in the other. There was plenty of room to put these else where,...

When Panamanian dictator Manual Noriega took refuge in the Vatican mission during the U.S. invasion of 1989, he was finally driven to surrender after relentless blasting of the Vatican compound by high-decibel rock music. The lack of sleep and psychological submission imposed by the pounding turned one of Central America's most powerful people into a prisoner (where he remains today)....

This is my second time to Bocas. Went there in 2010 and stayed at the high end hotel accross the waterway. We found Careening Cay Resort and the Cosmic Crab restaurant then. Best Bloody Mary's we have ever had. This visit we stayed at Careening Cay Resort. Joan and Steve are great. They are normal people running a business, but...

If there had been somewhere else to go, we would have. But easier said than done when traveling with 4 children. We booked the Crab Cabin. It is NOT a 3 bedroom as the website describes, it is 1 bedroom. There are NO queen beds. There was 1 double bed, and 4 twin beds. NO sofas, NO microwave, No hot...

This place is definitely one of the most beautiful around Bocas del Toro with a lot of personality of the owners. The place provides a perfect sunset view and is more relaxed and romantic than the main island. Nevertheless it's easily reachable via water taxi within a minute from the main dock of Bocas. Food from adjacent restaurant (Cosmic Crab...

We had initially booked the Careening Cay for our stay in Bocas. Something came up and we regretfully had to cancel. We did end up coming to Bocas after all and on our last day we visited the Careening Cay for lunch. The best meal we had in all of Bocas! Then.... We received the grand tour from witty Joan,...

My cabin was spacious and comfortable, the island is beautiful and lots of fun things to do and places to visit nearby.

Stayed for 3 nights at Careening Cay Resort and cant say enough good things. This is an incredible location. It is quiet and secluded enough, with great views. The restaurant, Cosmic Crab, has awesome food and drinks! The owners, Joan and Steve, were helpful and friendly. We felt very comfortable there. My daughter and I spent 2 nights here in July. No problem finding it, we thought BocasTown would be too loud and busy so wanted to spend time away from there. In July, Bocas is pretty quiet, so our theory that Bocas town would be too busy was wrong.Either way, we really enjoyeyed Careening Cay. The owner Steve showed us...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our waterfront paradise is on the island, Isla Carenero. The resort now encompasses 6 1/2 acres of lush, tropical landscaping and over 600 feet of waterfront. Our backyard is verdant rain forest. We sit on a point facing west, which captures the refreshing Caribbean breeze and offers up fabulous sunsets. We are just a two minute boat ride across the bay to Bocas Town. We enjoy the convenience of close proximity to town, yet are removed from the hub hub, noise, pavement, cars and heat, while on our own tropical island. The resort is peaceful and quiet. We have hummingbird feeders throughout. Many different birds, including parrots can be heard singing and conversing in the trees. ... more   less
