We came with are children and they were absolutely brilliant with them so friendly and kept us entertained the whole time.the food is just delicious and we just kept coming back. Thank you so much for an amazing meal we loved it
Overall not bad. The room is spacious but the mattresses are too soft and the shower is so-so. The breakfast is OK but some hot items would be nice. The staff are very friendly. The photos of the garden and pool are a bit misleading. It is small and the pool is freezing. Good location to go hiking though
The room contained everything required, although the hot water is only available before 9.30pm (and on one night at least, no longer available at 8.30pm). The décor is eclectic, with many rather random items (Happy Christmas sign in the dining room in February, gnomes, plants, allsorts!). There are three cats which create mayhem trying to get into the dining room at breakfast, only to be chased out again... The guests are all friendly - probably because the atmosphere created by the hosts is very friendly... and they are a wide variety of people... Don't come if you're looking for a sleek modern hotel, do come if you want to stay in a warm and welcoming place. There is some fabulous walking around Cruz de Tejeda; footpaths are signposted and the owners have copies of the walking map of Gran Canaria on sale. The views in this area are stunning. Sunset over the ocean, lighting up rock Bentagaya and Roque Nublo in the near mountains, with Tenerife trying to steal the show in the background is fabulous. Be warned - it gets cold at night outside and the swimming pool was great for bathing tired feet after walks, but not warm enough for swimming.…
How one perceive a place, face or stay is of course in most cases a derivative of ones expectations as well as a combination of coincidences. We arrived weary, right before Christmas with no expectations, wich might have colored our perception (as I think think is the case of many a review). In the case of El Refugio Hotel Rural, emphasize the rural, think lodge instead of hotel and swap "staff" with family. It is the Fawlty Towers antipode with a breathtaking mountain range view that is astonishing and... well.. not Torquay. Albeit the rooms are not sound proof, and most neighboring restaurants do close at seven I cannot emphasize the warm helpfulness and big heart of the manager who together with the other personell truly made the stay a quiet refuge for our minds and a most beautiful rural sanctuary for sore feet.…
The hotel was mentioned in an old Lonely Planet, so I decided to contact them. It was one of the best experience we had so far this summer (2 weeks in Greece and 3 weeks in Canary islands). Owners are so lovely. The hotel is very well maintained (some rooms ares till close after fire in summer 2017). Try the Chorizo from El Terror at breakfast, yummy !
