I spent the New Year's Eve 2019 at the Pausada Vila do Mar in Caraíva. The place has a beach inn structure, with relatively well maintained rooms and with pool which is a differential and also a problem as I will report below. The inn opens “day use” of the bar and pool area and charges expensive fees for people to frequent the place. That way, if you are looking for an exclusive venue, you will be very disappointed. You will have to live with a lot of people who come from outside and will be everywhere drinking and smoking, including competing with tables and loungers with guests, who has no preference with regard to visitors. One morning I was awakened by a group that was at 7:00 AM in an after party, right next to my room. On day 31 was chaos, it was not possible to drink without taking less than 30 minutes because of the crowded in the swimming pool area. The owner decided to offer a supper at night charging 200 reais per person. Some friends from other B & Bs came and it was totally disappointing. It took over 3 hours to serve the dishes, which came cold, did not come my dessert, we ate in the dark only with the light of the phone. When it came to serving the main course it was embarrassing because the waitress said she would only serve lobster for anyone staying at the inn and only after protesting, she agreed to serve everyone at the table. The breakfast in general is very poor, only serves French bread, 1 type of cake, no white cheese, usually 1 type of fruit and juice. The coffee on the 1st of January was below any criticism I could make here. Overall the dishes served by the restaurant and charged the portion are good, but extremely expensive, even for the seasonal standards of Caraíva. Otherwise the staff are very polite, good room service (except for having a safe that does not work) and the hostel has generator, which helps with the frequent power outages of Caraíva. Overall, the inn is only a great club and it is better to stay somewhere more cozy. The owner spent much of the time having fun with his friends by the pool while the problems happened to his neglect. He must remember the guests are paying a very costly room and deserves a high quality and unique service.…
Vila do Mar is one of the best and most comfortable places to stay in Caraiva. The staff is always around waiting to hear you and make your stay more pleasant. Breakfast is served inside or outside, around the pool, and is a perfect way to begin the day. I recommend the rooms on the second floor with view to the sea, the sun and the moonlight.
I was there for the news year week! We were in a big group! All the staff are very kind, Alamo is a great manager! It is by the ocean and close to the vila. The food and starters are very good. Beautiful pool area. Opportunities in the coffee and also in the pool (not that clean). You also can have a good massage! It is worth!!! Paloma it is very good, you can renew your energy.
Recently reformed and under exciting new management, Vila do Mar has become a reference for a good meal (ask for the octopus' rice) great drinks (aperol sprtiz!) and friendly staff! This pousada in at the beach and even under not such a good weather (rare in Caraíva, but happened to me) is a great place to chill and have some good drinks!
We stayed in August 2015 with our two year old son and were upgraded to the bungalow as it was low-season. The bungalow is the closest room to the beach and we slept/woke up to the sounds of the waves every day. The pousada is in a great position as it looks onto the beach and is positioned between the two best beach bars/restaurants but it is v quiet and relaxing place to be. The hospitality was great and they organized a great masseur to come and massage me in their massage room and I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family and I would go back. Only complaint is that one of the shower floor tiles was cracked which needed to be fixed as was potentially q harmful and wasn't fixed during our stay. Other than that, perfect.
