What about a place with classy enough rooms to be at one of the most remote locations in Brazil? And with great food, music (yeah, great selection) with stars and moon view tables? On top of that great service and location? This is Lagoa!
As we arrived at the pousada late in the evening I talked with the "dona da casa" about the daily rate of the rooms. She mentioned prices of 220/170 Reais with/without breakfast, which already seemed to be very high to me, but the room looked nice, the pousada accepts credit card (there is no bank on Caraíva) and we didn't want to search any longer. So we decided to stay two days without breakfast. The room was large and had a nice bed with a mosquito-net, which was really necessary, because there were lots of them! Apart from that there was no TV and no air-conditioning, just a small ventilator, too far from the bed. We turned it to the maximum, but we couldn't feel any cool breeze at night, so that we sweated a lot even though we slept uncovered without shirt! The pousada itself has no swimming pool and is located far from the beach. In Trancoso for example (a very beautiful and touristic place as well near Porto Seguro) we paid 100 Reais per day for a nice pousada near the central place (quadrado) with pool and a room with TV and conditioned air! When it came to leave and to pay, the woman confessed that she couldn't find the bill of our first dinner any more (really professional), so we helped her and told her exactly what we consumed. After that she suddenly charged 270 (!!!) Reais per day instead of 170, plus a tax of 10% (for whatever?!?), so it went out 297 Reais... 594 Reais for two days without breakfast!! I couldn't have had understood it wrong at our arrival, because my girlfriend (who is brazilian) understood exactly the same thing. The dona had tricked me on purpose, but she now showed us a price list that gave her "right". I already travelled a lot all around Brazil, but I never paid that much by far for any pousada, and I had never heard about a tax of 10% on top of the daily rate! Never again!!!…
Funny I have just read a review which was very off the ball. I have been many times and the place just gets better and better everytime. The food is better and beyond anything else around, the care and thought put into the design and comfort for the customer shows how the owner devotes her personal time and influence into making this place the only place that I would tell any of my friends to go to.
The firs thing you notice is the very large lush garden with five brightly painted bungalows. All bungalows are about 20-30 metter far from each other, which gives lots of privacy. The frogs durring the night makes funny and melodic noises. You have to try the Tropical Salad, its my favorite. To walk up in the morning eat the best breakfast ever, with fruit, fresh yogurt, cheese, brads and cakes is great thing, because the weather in Feb when we went was very hot, what makes you not feel like eating so much for lunch time. I really recomend it!
This is a lovely spot in an unbelievable location. Really magical....delicious food - simple, tasty, fresh with a great little bar scene and sweet, clean and perfect little bungalows, all done with taste and finesse. The staff is really nice and helpful. The owner is attentive, laid back and helpful all at once - you can't beat the hospitality! HIGHLY recommended.
