Just arrived back from a fantastic week at this hotel, we cannot recommend this hotel enough.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and were great with our not so well speaking French! All of the staff from reception, bar, restaurant and cleaners have created a pleasant and welcoming family hotel and nothing was never too much trouble.
Food was great, kids loved the food too especially the chocolate fondue and marshmallows (that was definitely a winner with our kids!). All bar and restaurant staff hardworking and very friendly (also made great cocktails).
A special mention to staff member Quentin, a brilliant ambassador to the hotel he was superb, always greeted by him with a smile and helped and guided us throughout, he made our stay and holiday so memorable, thank you!
The rooms were so clean, fresh , family friendly, always stocked up. Kids loved their welcome gifts with a soft toy, balloon, activity book and toiletries.
Amazing location, right onto the slopes, lockers easily accessible, great place overall especially taking children for their first skiing experience.
Brilliant in every way and will definitely return to this hotel.

The Saint Charles is a superb hotel in a superb location. The room & bed we had are very comfortable, the balconies are facing the ski slopes and you can ski down back just to the corridor that leads to the hotel ski room. Breakfasts and dinners are excellent. In addition: a warm swimming pool and cocooning massages. We are considering extending our stays a little longer each year. The perfect place to be!

Great location, all staff were excellent could not do enough for you. short stays perfect, if you are staying for a couple of weeks or longer you may want to upgrade the room. Spa is excellent as is the Continental breakfast and choice. The hot options could have been better as could the variety of the Restaurant limited if staying longer but plenty of great alternatives around the villages. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean at all times would definitely recommend. Parking advertised as free but that was very limited so you had to pay for underground which was a shame and not expected. We have been coming to Val Cenis 2/3 weeks a year for over 20 years and this was our first visit to Saint Charles, we would come back again.

An enviable location for skiing as right at the base of the lifts with a room overlooking the slopes. We were on half board for 7 nights and enjoyed our dinner on the first night and buffet breakfasts were fine. But on the second night the food wasn't very good and on the third night it was basically unpalatable soup was too salty to eat and prawn risotto resembled a dollop of mash potato and it was also cold. On the first night we could choose anything on the menu as part of the package on the second night a number of the dishes weren't included and you paid a premium for these. A complaint to the manager revealed that they had a complete change of kitchen staff and it would take a while for improvement. It would be better next week we were told but we wouldn't be there next week. There was a slight improvement during the week and after a lot of discussion we eventually got a refund for the 2nd and 3rd nights. Room and bathroom were fine. Be aware though that it is their policy to service rooms between 4 and 5 in the afternoon they give priority to getting rooms ready for new guests. This means that there can be a knock at the door soon after you've got back in from skiing and they would like you out of your room in your thermal undies while they do their job. The first time we said we would go without the service but on the second day and they hadn't service the room by 2.30 I asked at reception if we could please have it done by 4 when we got back and was told quite curtly that between 4 and 5 was their normal but they would enquire. We did get it done by the time we got back.

The hotel has comfortable rooms by french standards. Fresh and modern.
The location at the bottom of the slopes is unbeatable.

About the atmosphere, it was (over)crowded and very noisy, which we noticed especially in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast.
One evening they gave us a table behind the dining room in a cheerless space with the worst acoustics. There were a lot of loud families. It seems to be very child orientated.

Also in the swimming pool and jacuzzi there was a lot of noise and too many people. At certain times it was a playground for kids which doesn't really match with a relaxing spa experience. Maybe blocked periods for adults only might be an option...

The spa area in contrast was fine and quiet.
The massages we had were very professional.

About the food. Dinner was really beyond average. Breakfast wasn't worth a 4star hotel.
The price you pay is way too high for the quality you get.

For big families who don't mind a lot of noise, overcrowding and mediocre culinary quality this might be a good choice.

Unfortunately we had a negative experience at this hotel during our Christmas holiday. Maybe at times outside the peak season it could be a nicer experience..

Apart from some confusion as to how to park on arrival (how to enter the car park under the hotel) we loved everything about this hotel. It is right next to the ski lifts (you can ski in/ski out) and close to the restaurants/bars in Lanslebourg yet the rooms are so quiet. Extremely comfortable bed, great shower, lovely Mountain views from the room, modern bar with excellent cocktails/beer, nice breakfast with provision for gluten free, friendly staff who were polite about our franglais! We didn't try the restaurant as we prefer the traditional French bistros but the menu looked nice. No time to use the spa as out skiing but it seemed popular.

On our arrival at the St Charles, we were informed at the reception desk that the restaurant was closed because they didn't have any kitchen staff. When we pointed out that we had booked half-board, we were told that dinner would be served at the ski bar just around the corner from the hotel. The menu choices and the food quality in that establishment fell far short of what we could reasonably expect from such an up-market hotel. We learned from one of the waiters that all the hotel kitchen staff had walked out the night before we arrived.
The hotel management made no effort whatsoever to address our obvious disappointment with the restaurant arrangements. No letter of explanation, no complimentary bottle of wine, no gesture of any kind. There were a lot of unhappy faces among the hotel staff and it seemed to us that there was something seriously wrong with the management of this establishment.
The hotel itself is very comfortable with good facilities and in an excellent location for access to the slopes. With decent food and service in the hotel restaurant we would have rated this place 5 stars.

Dear @martint135, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologise profusely for your experience regarding our restaurant during your stay. This was indeed an isolated, completely unforseen event that unfortunately impacted you directly, and you should have received a compensatory gesture on our behalf. The Hotel Direction has now changed, since June, and your comfort and satisfaction continue to be our utmost priority. On a positive note, we are delighted that you enjoyed our facilities and comfort of the Hotel, as well as our great location on the slope front. We really hope to welcome you back to the Hotel in the near future! With kind regards, L'Hôtel Saint Charles****

This is a children friendly hotel, if you expect an adult experience I would avoid, with young children it would be fine. The rooms are tiny and the breakfast had limited healthy options with children running amok, even the Muesli had choc chips in, we were told the children liked it. The Staff were great and the position perfect, but the hotel was like a kindergarten.

Very modern and lovely in many respects and I'm sure the skiers love it in winter but although we can't fault the room, we had a bad experience with a member of staff walking into the room without knocking. When we arrived we had to wait for housekeeping to say the room was ready. We unpacked, we went down for a drink but not for too long. I think the staff member thought we were still downstairs. She backed away quickly when she realised we were in the room and two minutes later came back with an 'apology'...a bottle of water! If she had 'forgotten' to put it in the room, then it would have been in her hand when she entered the first time... We reported it to reception and although they apologised, we got the feeling they were not surprised at what we were reporting. When checking out the next morning I had to fight with the guy on reception for the cost of two drinks to be taken off (having been offered as an apology the previous day by a different member of staff). I don't feel inclined to stay here again. I also hate being charged for underground parking when it was completely empty but for one car.

Very friendly staff, good food at the restaurant, and great location in the center of the village, in the same building as a ski shop. A few meters from the ski lifts.
The only drawback: No supervision at the pool. Two British families couldn’t behave themselves and the wellness pool became a play area with much splash and jumping instead of a quiet place where we could relax. They didn’t even use the foot bath. We never saw a hotel staff checking on the quietness of the facilities… once we asked they say they couldn’t afford the extra people for that function…
