I found it hard to believe that in a tiny village at an altitude of 3500 m you can find a hotel offering this kind of service and quality. The breakfast they serve in the morning gets you through the biggest part of the day !
Rooms are spotlessly clean, big, with warm water and have heating for the chilly nights.
Open the window and your birding adventure starts !
The lady managing the hotel was VERY friendly and welcoming. I spent New Years Eve there and the hug I got the next morning is most likely the warmest I had in years !!

Putre lies just below the Altiplano an is slightly off the beaten track but it is worth making the detour. The main agricultural activity is growing alfalfa both for winter fodder and sale. It is grown on irrrigated terraces but from the look of abandoned terraces, It seems that the activity is declining.

The hotel lies at the bottom of the town but it is only 300 metres of so to the centre where there a number of modest restaurants. The hotel is basic but clean, comfortable and the rooms of a decent size. The central heating comes on at 6pm and the sun sets at 7.30 so the room nicely warmed by the time the temperatire drops; which it does quickly at sunset. The bed had a very good duvet and nights were comfortable. The shower worked well.

There is no TV, telephone or (horror) wi-fi but there are humming birds. There were four pairs of green-backed firecrowns nesting under the eaves and giving entertaining displays in the garden in front of the room. The only problem is that according to my bird book this breed only lives below 2,000 metres. I can only assume that these humming birds don't read.

Breakfast is good with decent fresh coffee (a rarety in Chile), fresh fruit, ham and cheese all presided over by Jorge who smiles and speaks almost no English. He seemed to be the general factotum and was hanging out the washing as we left.

We stayed here only one night to get used to the height before heading to Chungara. My hubby felt horrible sick, so did my middle child (11). Next day we had bfast and were friendly offered chachacocha tea, much better than coca tea!! Unfortunately we could not stayed extra nite, but felt recovered to continue to Chungara and then Codpa.
Enjoy milky way at night...amazingly clear, without moon!

After a long and beautiful but tiring ride on the Ruta de las Misiones we drove into the abandoned and neglected parking of hotel Qantati. The whole thing looked like nobody had been there in recent years. The door was closed but the key was in the lock. No one was there either. The rooms around the courtyard full of weeds were all closed. Looked around, shouted, ... nothing. Back outside ... no one to be seen. Fortunately an old man came out of the bushes. "La recepción del hotel? Allá ... barraca!" pointing to a wooden shed at the edge of the site. To my questioning expression, he answered "Si, si!" indicate that I had to knock. No sooner said than done. Inside were two ladies, one of whom indicated that she took care of the hotel reception. From that moment on, checking in went very smoothly. The rooms themselves are simply furnished with two small double beds and a simple bathroom with bath / shower, sink and toilet. The fitted carpet is a major drawback.
There is wifi in the common area (reception, sitting area, breakfast room)
There is sufficient parking space. You can drive around the hotel and park your car at the room. They do not have a restaurant and because it is completely out of the center, you have to eat out in the evening. The breakfast was simple but tasty.
You won't find many restaurants in Putre, but Canta Verdi was the only one I found that seemed more "gourmet" than my grandmother's back kitchen. And the food was also delicious.

Lovely service from friendly owner and excellent breakfast. Beds were singles but comfy. It looks a bit basic but does all you want from a hotel. Not far from town but given the altitude we drive in for dinner.

This is a no-frills single-storey hotel set in a very quiet site on the edge of Putre, with rooms built around a central garden. It is necessary to walk outside from reception to the room block. The bedroom was large and had an excellent view down the valley (very good sunsets!). One or two issues that did arise (such as a thick hard pillow and no hot water) were resolved very quickly and graciously. Evening meals are not served so it is necessary to walk or drive into the village. Breakfasts were on the whole simple, but perfectly adequate, with very good coffee. However on our first morning, the breakfast was provided by the manageress herself and was excellent, with a much greater range e.g. a very good freshly-prepared fruit salad, rather than just a piece of fruit. It seems as though the quality of the breakfast depends on who is making it! It was necessary to go into the reception/dining room/lounge to obtain Wi-Fi. Altogether a peaceful and pleasant stay.

The Qantati hotel is a nicely maintained motel type structure built around an internal garden. The rooms were roomy and clean - the heater worked well and there was hot water available at any time (this is not necessarily a given in the area). WiFi was best near the lobby. The location was a walkable distance outside of town but not a pleasant walk at night - we were lucky to be driven. The breakfast was adequate with ham and cheese. A good place to stop for a night during Andean vacations.

This small hotel, on the edge of the small town of Putre, was our final stay at the end of our Chilean trip, and was thoroughly enjoyable. We were part of a group of 14, and noone mentioned any sign of earthquake damage (mentioned in an earlier review). The rooms were spacious, clean and warm, hot water was reliable, and the breakfast room/lounge was large and pleasant, with a big fireplace for the winter. Putre is at 3,500m, so not surprisingly the nights are cold; but we were cosy and comfortable. Breakfast included white and wholemeal bread/toast, and fresh fruit salad - definitely above average compared with other breakfasts in Chile! Overall this hotel was definitely better than it looks from across the valley, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Lovely location with great views, and a good stopping off point for acclimatising to the altitude. The rooms are quite basic but warm and comfortable.

The breakfast was plentiful and with a good choice and the team were very friendly and helpful.

We arrived in this tiny town which is perched on a ledge in the altiplanico when it was raining and going dark. Incredibly difficult to find as the signage was hopeless and even the locals didn't know where it was! Finally found it and the couple who run the place welcomed us in......we were the only people staying there and the hotel was freezing! No fire in the lounge and only bare minimum of heat (although we did get an extra oil radiator). No supper or bar is available and the rain precluded us heading back into town......all dirt roads. Bed and towels were damp .....not sure whether this was because room had been shut up. Bathroom wasn't heated but water was hot and there was wifi in lounge! Fairly amazing considering we were 10000 feet above sea level in a valley! We ate breakfast in a freezing dining room but the couple who ran the hotel were very keen to please so that made up for any inadequacies. There's not a lot of choice in Putre and this is supposed to be the best of the lot!
