Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel has his best times behind and needs probably some renovation work. The stuff is very friendly and helpful and this place is a good starting point for going to the national park with your own car. The rooms are basic, but everything is clean and there is hot water "all" the time - at least when I tried it in the morning and afternoon/evening.

We staid there for 3 nights. The rooms are basic yes it is true but with hot water and clean bathroom clean sheets and towels. But the main point is the service and especially Alvaro who is amazing and so helpful with his clients and us. He really wants to make our journey a good experience and souvenir so muchas gracias Alvaro as we had good time in Putre and in Las Vicunas!

This hotel must have been nice when it opened some 30 years ago. Now it's not anymore. Rooms are dirty, shower sometimes gives hot water. For breakfast we received 3 mornings burned toast. And the price was about the highest we've paid in Chile. All because there was nothing else available, at least we couldn't find it upfront. Something positive: the guy at the reception was very helpful. And as a surprise we received scrambled eggs at breakfast the 3rd morning.

Hotel is conveniently located near the entrance of Putre. Accommodations are basic but very comfortable with electrical heater in the room, great wifi and hot shower. For the first time in weeks in Peru and Chile we even had to mix the hot water with cold water! The hotel needs some renovation but our two night stay was very pleasant. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and plentiful. The best was Heinz, the hotel owner. He helped us plan our 3 day stay and gave us an itinerary in the Las Vicunas reserve that are well hidden and offer some amazing wildlife spotting opportunities. On this road we did not see anyone! In fact, the road is not even on Google maps. This was one of the highlight of our tour. Heinz knows all the tricks and places to go to. He also helped us get high quality gasoline for our car. Would definitely come back!

This hotel offers basic accommodation. Rooms are medium size, bathrooms are small and everything is quite dated. They offer breakfast and dinner (extra cost), but the food is mediocre quality and preparation is unappealing. One meal we had appeared to be re-heated.

This large hotel was built to host workers of a mining company. Most rooms are no longer operational. The remaining rooms are not well maintained. In my room the shower was leaking all day (and night). Several pieces of furniture where severely damaged. However, the bed was comfortable and there was hot water. The staff was friendly, but not very professional. Wifi was not working and there was no attempt at repairing it. When I arrived I was slightly bitten by the owner's dog.

We have stayed here for 2 nights in August. First of all if you consider to stay here call the hotel direct. By booking via Booking.com we have paid double!!!! Rip off! Hotel staff do not speak a word of English. Rooms are very basic, carpets are old, bathroom falling apart. Yes there is a heater in the room, but not enough to warm the room! And there is hot water. Breakfast was adequate. Hotel is right at the entrance of the town, little shops and restaurants are about 10-15mins walk away. Best to have own transport if you decide to stay there.

We arrive in putre without any reservation and were willing to spend 2 days here. The guy at the front desk found a way to give us a room for these two nights. The staff from the hotel (reception and restaurant) doesn't speak any English but was really kind, nice and helpful during our stay. The hotel is well located, first building on the right side when you reach putre. The decoration and cleanness of the shared facilities could be improved. The hotel has a restaurant (recommended, good food and great atmosphere), laundry service (way too expensive in my opinion), pong pong table,... The room are only heated with electrical heaters but we had plenty banquets so did not suffer from the cold. The second night, we heard our neighbors speaking and listening to TV until 2am, the phonic isolation is like in most hotel in chile, really bad. The bathroom cleanness has to be improved. The shower was pretty good, hot water and high pressure.

Hotel las Vicuñas offers Spartan but acceptable accommodation and friendly English-speaking management. Dorm-like rooms have comfortable beds and hot-water showers which are welcome in a region where some hostels pipe in fresh snow melt. There are extra blankets but you may need to ask for more because it freezes here every night of the year and rooms are not heated. Breakfast is adequate considering the effort required to stock a larder so far from markets of any size. Note: At 11,500 ft. Putre is a necessary altitude acclamation stop in route to Lauca National Park, and beyond, on the Andean high plateau known as the altiplano. The immense altiplano rises to 15,000 feet beyond Putre and pretty much remains at that altitude while 20,000+ ft. peaks rise above it. Don’t confuse the altiplano with the excessively popular tourist venues further south in the Atacama Desert. The U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) publishes advice for high altitude travel on their site: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/travel-to-high-altitudes

For CLP 40.000 a night this hotel seemed overpriced. We got a clean but soulless dorm-type room that had a cracked window with holes in it. Breakfast was probably the worst Chilean hotel breakfast I have experienced (and I have had a lot), although the bread was warm and fresh. We were glad we didn't opt for the full board, as the restaurant was depressing and there are a few decent dinner options in town. The service was very kind and helpful (ask for extra blankets!). The location was a bit out of town (just a relatively short walk).
