#2 of 4 Speciality lodging in Dargle
With views stretching across Midmar Dam, in the midlands region of Kwazulu Natal, you can find these three beautiful guesthouses, Hillhouse, Forest House and Lakehouse where you escape out to the hills for some salvation. On the 70 hectare farm, Hillhouse was a modest shed, which has since morphed into the modern house it is today. Accommodating up to a dozen guests, it lends itself to both family and friend getaways, and the raw steel fireplace, is sure to be a focal point around which winter guests gravitate, fuelled by conversation, great wine, and board games. The scale and light at play in the space is wondeful. Foresthouse, 600 meters from Hillhouse, was built from the ground up and boasts a number of recycled elements - from Rhodesian teak parquet flooring, to the doors, frames and windows. Also sleeping twelve, the house is ideal to hire out in conjunction with Hillhouse for larger events too. Lakehouse, with a wrap around veranda and views over the valley has two bedrooms - perfect for couples or families. The lawn looks good enough to roll around on, or throw down a picnic blanket and take in the fresh air and wide, wide, open spaces. The buildings have unusual proportions and are visually out of the norm. We hope that you will have a little adventure - something different from what you would expect of a country get away. 100% Cotton towels and bedding are provided in all 3 houses, as well as fully equipped kitchens, braai facilities, and wood for the open fireplaces in each house.

Stayed in Lake House. Situated with views over Midmar Dam it offered us peace and quiet in the most delightful little house. The owner has the most beautiful garden showing her magnificent succulents.

We stayed at Hillhouse over the Midmar Mile weekend and it was pure bliss - stunning setting, comfortable accommodation, everything we could have wished for..and a very short trip to Midmar dam. The perfect peace and proximity to the Midlands meander make this an amazing place to stay.

My mom and I stayed in the lake house for two nights and it definitely served our purpose. It is a great stop over for those who want to see and experience as much of the Midlands Meander as possible. The lake house has a beautiful view over the lakes and forest. Watching the sun set and rise is a fantastic experience. It is very minimalistic with most of the bare necessities, but one must bring your own shampoo, hairdryer etc and there are no cupboards, which is fine for a night or two but can get frustrating if one should stay for longer. It does get very cold as the house has a very high roof and sement floors and therefore the fireplace is an absolute necessity. It is easily accessible and very safe as the forest house and hill house is fairly close by. One can clearly see the creativity and uniqueness of the Crooks by the gorgeous half circle window, antique pillar and interesting paintings. All in all we had a pleasant stay.

We had another great stay at the Forest house, Hill house. With our friends and family. Forest House is comfortable with everything you need for a great weekend away in the country. The simplicity of design and added detail from the beautiful fresh cut flowers in the rooms are always so welcoming. We will most definatley be back.
