We enjoyed a lot to stay two nights at Thornton Beach Bungalows despite rain. Bungalows are in front of the beach and the place is fantastic and wild sorrounded by the rain forest. There is a cafe at the beach entrance so you can also have breakfast. The room and the bathroom are tidy and well organized. We definitely recommend to stay here if you want to explore Daintree region !

We rented the villa at Thornton Beach Bungalows for 2 nights - there's only 1 villa (2 bedrooms, sleep 6) positioned right at the back of two bungalows.

Great facilities, fully equipped kitchen and large outdoor area with gas BBQ.

The beach is just a short walk away - great tropical beach HOWEVER you really don't want to go for a swim as there are salt water crocodiles swimming around the place ;-)

Overall a great spot to spend a couple of days as you explore the Daintree and Cape Tribulation!

Thornton Beach typifies the Daintree area where the rainforest meets the sea. There is a tropical beach that is deserted for most of the day. Thornton Beach Bungalows are situated 50 metres from the beach in a beautiful tropical garden setting.

The bungalow has two comfortably large bedrooms and proviion for extras with two sofa beds. It is tastefully furnished and has all the facilities required despite the fact that they have to rely on solar and generator power.

There are also two smaller bungalows with double beds to cater for a larger group that wanted to share the use of the larger bungalow.

Although the bungalow has adequate kitchen facilities, for those that do not wish to prepare meals, the Cafe by the Sea is located on the beach across the road and has the best food in the Daintree area.

On arrival we were met by the owners Karen and Drew who went out of their way to welcome us and make us feel comfortable.

We stayed 2 nights at thornton beach bungalows and loved it. The location is amazing just across the road from the most beautiful beach, which felt like a desert island as we walked along it.
The bungalow is small, a bedroom which is also a kitchen and a wardrobe, the use of space is so clever, and a great shower in the bathroom. Lovely products left for us to use, my hair was so soft after using them.
It is so very peaceful, no phones, no internet, we sat on the verandah watching fire flies and the stars come out, listening to the sounds of the night, which included the ocean rolling in. We spoke to each other more than we usually do!!
We also went on the discovery cruise, Alan who took us on the boat was so informative, it made it even better. We were cruising along when a massive croc decided to go for a swim, heading straight for us, so Alan carefully manouvered the boat out of his way! Thanks karen for booking in advance for us.
If you want to get away from it all, give these bungalows a try, we definitely recommend them.

It’s a beautiful place, right on a beautiful beach. For a very reasonable price, you get a private little bungalow, with a good sized bed, nice bathroom and a little terrace where you can sit and enjoy a drink (although there’s no furniture in the room). The beach is just across the road as is a café serving some food and drinks until late afternoon (we didn’t buy anything there though). We brought a lot of food and drinks with us, which we bought at Woolworths in Mossman on our way to Cape Trib, which we would recommend to everyone as it saves you having to drive to get a dinner somewhere.

The world-famous leaf blower was on in the morning (for about 20 minutes, starting around 8 am) but frankly it didn’t bother us at all – we had read about it before going there so it was a kind of a local attraction for us and we found it quite funny :) A bit bigger problem in terms of noise is the proximity of the road, and on a busy day you can get a sustained stream of traffic (we stayed in one of the two bungalows just by the road; if you stay in the big private villa at the back, this is probably less of a problem).

We met Drew (one of the owners) briefly in the morning; he’s a very nice fellow. We would definitely stay there again, and hope we will, when we visit this beautiful part of Australia again.
