We stayed a night at the 1 bedroom cottage with our 2 young children back in June 2012. It was 1 of our highlights during our 12-days Melbourne trip.

The kids were won over with the yummy toffees as a welcome treat and we were all truly impressed with the 3-level cottage amidst the lovely and tranquil surroundings. Kids had a good time running up and down the 3 levels and they could not get enough of the jacuzzi (ditto for the adults!).

The place was well-maintained except for a spoilt light by the bedside. The fireplace with real fire, which we had to start ourselves, was a novelty to us since we were from Singapore.

If you do venture out for dinner, do bring along a strong torchlight as the road back to the cottage can get pretty dark and not to mention slippery during the colder months.

We loved our stay there so much that the kids are still talking about it one year later and said that they will want to go back for another stay at Lochiel!

We stayed in a tri level cottage for 2 nights. The bed was amazingly comfy, and the heating, whether the central heating or the wood fire, kept us nice and warm, even though it was fairly chilly outside.
I wasn't wowed when I first saw them, but inside is a different story. The bathroom is great, the spa that fits 2 was a great relaxer.
The lounge room was set out well, with a couch facing the wood fire, and a tv for the nights just wanting to stay in.
We got vouchers for breakfast at Ranges, we ate there both mornings, and we really enjoyed them.
We will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the main cottage largely because we wanted three bedroom accommodation. The cottage was very clean and in a beautiful location in the Dandenong Mountains. Off the very large rear balcony we saw lots of wild life such as deer and beautiful native birds. The cottage is set amongst beautiful huge old trees and beautiful flowering shrubs. Each morning we were allocated Vouchers to use at nearby Ranges cafe for breakfast. The breakfast on the balcony at Rangers was lovely.
The cottage was modern and clean however the third bedroom and what I believe was a second bathroom were locked for our stay. This was a bit annoying considering the amount we paid per night and also that we were not told that we would only be able to access a certain part of the cottage and not the whole cottage . This left us with only one bathroom that was in the master bedroom meaning the person in the second bedroom had to go through the master bedroom at all times of the day and night to use the only available bathroom. Make sure if you're booking the cottage that it is clear that you want the entire cottage and not just some of it. I think they need to make this clear on the website that if you want the entire cottage then you need to ask for the entire cottage and presumedly pay even more money to secure all three bedrooms and both bathrooms. Although we didn't need the third bedroom both nights we would have liked to have been able to invite one of my daughter's young friends to stay the night rather than drive down the mountain late at night. Also the cottage is very close to the road and on the second night we were kept awake most of that night by cars screaming past the cottage over and over and over as though they were using the winding road as a race track. I'm sure that doesn't happen often I guess we were just unlucky. Also, there appears to be no wifi at all. Having said all that we really enjoyed being in the cottage and in particular its location and the generosity of the owners in providing the vouchers for Ranges cafe including a 20% off dinner voucher which we also used. I doubt that you will get nicer accommodation in and around Olinda than Lochiel but as I said make sure if booking the main cottage that you are getting the entire cottage for the duration of your stay.

Four ladies In their 60's stayed here for long weekend away. We had asked for four bedrooms but one was closed off when we arrived but soon sorted by Jonathan once we called him. Unfortunately it was damp and musty because it had been closed up. We did however make the best of it. We were staying in Lochiel original cottage which is in amongst the trees and the kookaburras come down to the trees near the balcony. We had a lovely outdoor spa and the house is well equipped. All three bedrooms upstairs were lovely and we had two bathrooms. We did leave Jonathan with a few tips for future fixes. All in all it is in a lovely location and we enjoyed out visit.

7 of us stayed in the Original Cottage. Having stayed here before I expected the same high standards. Good accommodation and great views. Seeing the deer and native birds up close was lovely.

The downside was the shower leaking in the main en suite - floor was flooded and bathmat soaked after a very quick shower. If the edges where raised it would fix this problem. Also the table was a lot smaller than last time. You could only fit 4 people around it comfortably. Price wise for $1400 for the two nights I expect not to have these issues.

The breakfast voucher was a great idea but the restaurant was of a poor standard. Food was okay at best and service was slack. I ended up waiting an extra 15mins after everyone else had their meal.

Overall a lovely place but a few issues that need to be fixed as other places in the area offer better service for the same price.
