We dropped in for lunch on the weekend and were welcomed by the friendly staff who found us seating in the front dining room. Food was excellent and not over complicated or over-served (less is more). I had a fantastic pork belly curry. Others had burgers. The atmosphere is excellent with the pub holding it's original charm with all original, maintained woodwork throughout and bar. The staff are friendly relaxed and sociable. We will be back, many times.

spent two nights while exploring the Clare Valley. It is well located near the Riesling Trail but it is 25 kilometres from Clare where most of the action is. It is an old style hotel. Friendly staff and very good dinner. Excellent selection of local wines. The room we chose is the most expensive but only $155 a night. It is best described as quaint.A big old style bed which was not comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. A fire heater was nice. Big bathroom but again old fashioned.
The price included a breakfast which comprised some cereal, boring bread, spreads and fruit juice all left in the room for you to prepare. Overall it was good for a country pub. The food and wine were better than the bed and breakfast. Good to try but I wouldn't rush back.

Very peaceful and friendly spot. Accommodation was very clean and spacious in such an original setting. Breakfast supplied in the room and great pub food menu for dinner. Excellent service and friendly staff.

We stayed for a long weekend recently in Auburn walking distance to the Rising Sun Hotel. We did read previous reviews that where not very positive about the food but we thought we would give it a go. But despite the menu being very extensive and the hotel being very busy for a Saturday night our meals where very disappointing. I don't usually like to write poor reviews but we had eaten at the Watervale Hotel the previous night and really enjoyed there new Tapas menu it was a stark contrast to that meal. Our Thai fish cakes where soggy and lacked flavour and the lamb shanks where cold. Our table was in the hallway between the kitchen and dining room and was very dark and cold.

Had the mixed grill for lunch - spot on. Also coffee was great, locally roasted beans and SA Milk!! Yum. Indoor/outdoor dining in this grand old pub in the centre of town. Large room out the back for groups
